Harmonic Variables for Laplace Operators on Homogeneous Spaces

A definition of harmonic variables for Laplace operators on Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian spaces is introduced. Harmonic variables allow, in particular, the construction of particular (non-invariant group) solutions to a wide class of nonlinear differential equations. For Lie groups with a bi-invariant metric and a certain class of homogeneous spaces (e.g., symmetric spaces), an algorithm for constructing such variables is presented.

Pseudo-Riemannian Lie algebras with coisotropic ideals and integrating the Laplace-Beltrami equation on Lie groups

We identify a class of left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metrics on Lie groups for which the Laplace-Beltrami equation reduces to a first-order PDE and admits exact solutions. The defining condition is the existence of a commutative ideal $\mathfrak{h}$ in the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ whose orthogonal complement satisfies $\mathfrak{h}^\perp\subseteq\mathfrak{h}$. Using the noncommutative integration method based on the orbit method and generalized Fourier transforms, we reduce the Laplace--Beltrami equation to a first-order linear PDE, which can then be integrated explicitly. The symmetry of the reduced equation gives rise, via the inverse transform, to nonlocal symmetry operators for the original equation. These operators are generically integro-differential, contrasting with the polynomial symmetries appearing in previously studied classes. The method is illustrated by two examples: the Heisenberg group $\mathrm{H}_3(\mathbb{R})$ with a Lorentzian metric and a four-dimensional non-unimodular group with a metric of signature $(2,2)$. In the latter, classical separation of variables is not directly applicable, yet the noncommutative approach yields explicit solutions and reveals the predicted nonlocal symmetry.

Integration of geodesic flows on homogeneous spaces: the case of a wild lie group

We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the integrability in quadratures of geodesic flows on homogeneous spaces $M$ with invariant and central metrics. The proposed integration algorithm consists in using a special canonical transformation in the space $T^*M$ based on constructing the canonical coordinates on the orbits of the coadjoint representation and on the simplectic sheets of the Poisson algebra of invariant functions. This algorithm is applicable to integrating geodesic flows on homogeneous spaces of a wild Lie group.

New solutions of relativistic wave equations in magnetic fields and longitudinal fields

We demonstrate how one can describe explicitly the present arbitrariness in solutions of relativistic wave equations in external electromagnetic fields of special form. This arbitrariness is connected to the existence of a transformation, which reduces effectively the number of variables in the initial equations. Then we use the corresponding representations to construct new sets of exact solutions, which may have a physical interest. Namely, we present new sets of stationary and nonstationary solutions in magnetic field and in some superpositions of electric and magnetic fields.

Darboux Coordinates on K-Orbits and the Spectra of Casimir Operators on Lie Groups

We propose an algorithm for obtaining the spectra of Casimir (Laplace) operators on Lie groups. We prove that the existence of the normal polarization associated with a linear functional on the Lie algebra is necessary and sufficient for the transition to local canonical Darboux coordinates $(p,q)$ on the coadjoint representation orbit that is linear in the "momenta." We show that the $\la$-representations of Lie algebras (which are used, in particular, in integrating differential equations) result from the quantization of the Poisson bracket on the coalgebra in canonical coordinates.

Asymptotic states in long Josephson junctions in an external magnetic field

Asymptotic states in long Josephson junctions are investigated in an external magnetic field. We show that a choice one of the solution of the stationary Ferrell-Prange equation can carry be out with use of an asymptotic solution of the sine-Gordon equation and that an evolution to that stable solution occurs by passing through metastable states, which is determined with a form of quickly damped initial perturbation. The boundary sine-Gordon and Ferrell-Prange problems were carried out with a numerical simulation. An approximated expression for the vortex and antivortex states is obtained in the case of large values of an external magnetic field.

Effect of memory and dynamical chaos in long Josephson junctions

A long Josephson junction in a constant external magnetic field and in the presence of a dc bias current is investigated. It is shown that the system, simulated by the sine-Gorgon equation, "remembers" a rapidly damping initial perturbation and final asymptotic states are determined exactly with this perturbation. Numerical solving of the boundary sine-Gordon problem and calculations of Lyapunov indices show that this system has a memory even when it is in a state of dynamical chaos, i.e., dynamical chaos does not destroy initial information having a character of rapidly damping perturbation.

Bifurcations and a chaos strip in states of long Josephson junctions

Stationary and nonstationary, in particular, chaotic states in long Josephson junctions are investigated. Bifurcation lines on the parametric bias current-external magnetic field plane are calculated. The chaos strip along the bifurcation line is observed. It is shown that transitions between stationary states are the transitions from metastable to stable states and that the thermodynamical Gibbs potential of these stable states may be larger than for some metastable states. The definition of a dynamical critical magnetic field characterizing the stability of the stationary
