Hydrodynamics beyond local equilibrium: application to electron gas

Generalized hydrodynamic theory, which does not rest on the requirement of a local equilibrium, is derived in the long-wave limit of a kinetic equation. The theory bridges the whole frequency range between the quasistatic (Navier-Stokes) hydrodynamics and the high frequency (Vlasov) collisionless limit. In addition to pressure and velocity the theory includes new macroscopic tensor variables. In a linear approximation these variables describe an effective shear stress of a liquid and the generalized hydrodynamics recovers the Maxwellian theory of highly viscous fluids - the media behaving as solids on a short time scale, but as viscous fluids on long time intervals. It is shown that the generalized hydrodynamics can be applied to the Landau theory of Fermi liquid. Illustrative results for collective modes in confined systems are given, which show that nonequilibrium effects qualitatively change the collective dynamics in comparison with the predictions of the heuristic Bloch's hydrodynamics. Earlier improvements of the Bloch theory are critically reconsidered.

Phase transition in two-dimensional multicomponent Bose liquid: a new type of quasi-long-range order

The $ν$-component two-dimensional (2D) Bose liquid is considered. It is shown that the finite temperature phase transition exists in this 2D continuously degenerate multicomponent system. The new type of quasi-long-range order occurs as a result of this transition. The correlation function in ordered state is a product of the power-law XY-universality class type function and the exponential function corresponding to the $SU(ν)$ invariant model. The transition temperature is calculated for the diluted system. It is found that the physical mechanism of the phase transition is changed when $ν$ exceeds the critical value $ν_c = 4$. The experimental realization of the considered model is discussed briefly.

Formation of k-space indirect magnetoexcitons in double-quantum-well direct gap heterostructures

Spectrum of excitons in double-quantum-well structures is calculated in tilted magnetic field. It is shown that spectrum becomes asymmetric in quasimomentum if a transverse in respect to growth direction component of magnetic field is nonzero. A transition from $k$-space direct exciton ground state to $k$-space indirect one accompanied by sharp quenching of photoluminescense is described.
