Ultrasonic attenuation in clean d-wave superconductors

We consider the attenuation of longitudinal ultrasonic waves in a clean two-dimensional d-wave superconductor. We show that the attenuation coefficient is linear in temperature at low temperatures for all in-plane directions of the propagation of the ultrasound, and that the coefficient of the linear term can be used to determine the parameters crucial for the low temperature transport in these compounds.

Anisotropic thermodynamics of d-wave superconductors in the vortex state

We show that the density of states and the thermodynamic properties of a 2D d-wave superconductor in the vortex state with applied magnetic field $\bf H$ in the plane depend on the angle between $\bf H$ and the order parameter nodes. Within a semiclassical treatment of the extended quasiparticle states, we obtain fourfold oscillations of the specific heat, measurement of which provides a simple probe of gap symmetry. The frequency dependence of the density of states and the temperature dependence of thermodynamic properties obey different power laws for field in the nodal and anti-nodal direction. The fourfold pattern is changed to twofold when orthorhombicity is considered.

Quasiparticle thermal conductivity in the vortex state of high-T$_c$ cuprates

We present the results of a microscopic calculation of the longitudinal thermal conductivity, $κ$, of a d-wave superconductor in the mixed state. Our results show an increase in the thermal conductivity with the applied field at low temperatures, and a decrease followed by a nearly field independent $κ(H)$ at higher temperatures, in qualitative agreement with the experimental results. We discuss the relationship between the slope of the superconducting gap and the plateau in $κ(H)$.

Interlayer Quasiparticle Transport in the Vortex State of Josephson Coupled Superconductors

We calculate the dependence of the interlayer quasiparticle conductivity, $σ_q$, in a Josephson coupled d-wave superconductor on the magnetic field B||c and the temperature T. We consider a clean superconductor with resonant impurity scattering and a dominant coherent interlayer tunneling. When pancake vortices in adjacent layers are weakly correlated at low T the conductivity increases sharply with B before reaching an extended region of slow linear growth, while at high T it initially decreases and then reaches the same linear regime. For correlated pancakes $σ_q$ increases much more strongly with the applied field.

Anisotropic thermodynamics and $T/\sqrt H$ scaling of d-wave superconductors in the vortex state

The density of states of a 2D d-wave superconductor in the vortex state with applied magnetic field $\bf H$ in the plane is shown to exhibit fourfold oscillations as a function of the angle of the field with respect to the crystal axes. We find further that the frequency dependence of the density of states and the temperature dependence of transport coefficients obey different power laws, thus leading to different magnetic scaling functions, for field in the nodal and anti-nodal direction. We discuss the consequences of this anisotropy for measurements of the specific heat.

Hall Effect in the mixed state of moderately clean superconductors

The Hall conductivity in the mixed state of a clean ($l \gg ξ_0$) type-II s-wave superconductor is determined from a microscopic calculation within a quasiclassical approximation. We find that below the superconducting transition the contribution to the transverse conductivity due to dynamical fluctuations of the order parameter is compensated by the modification of the quasiparticle contribution. In this regime the nonlinear behaviour of the Hall angle is governed by the change in the effective quasiparticle scattering rate due to the reduction in the density of states at the Fermi level. The connection with experimental results is discussed.

Quasiparticle transport in the vortex state of d-wave superconductors

We calculate the magnetic field and temperature dependence of the Raman response, superfluid density and the NMR relaxation rate in the vortex state of a d-wave superconductor arising from the Doppler energy shift of extended quasiparticle states. Our results are valid both at low temperatures, where we observe scaling with variable $TH^{-1/2}$ and obtain explicit form of the scaling functions, and beyond this region. We derive a universal frequency dependent scaling relation for the Raman response, and discuss the breakdown of the single relaxation rate approach to NMR response.

Quasiclassical Approach to Transport in the Vortex State and the Hall Effect

We derive generalized quasiclassical transport equations which include the terms responsible for the Hall Effect in the vortex state of a clean type-II superconductor, and calculate the conductivity tensor for an s-wave superconductor in the high-field regime.
