Hidden chirality and half-vortex formation in exciton-polariton condensates

We show that a radially symmetric, nonresonantly pumped spinor exciton-polariton condensate can acquire chirality without a rotating drive, chiral geometry, or pump orbital angular momentum. Spin relaxation in a two-reservoir system shifts the reservoir-induced blueshift relative to the gain profile, creating an effective non-Hermitian chiral potential. A reduced angular-mode theory reveals tunable exceptional points and non-reciprocal coupling between counter-rotating modes. Full driven-dissipative Gross-Pitaevskii simulations show that this hidden chirality enables all-optical formation of spin-selective half-vortices.

Magnetic switching of self-hybridized exciton-polaritons in CrSBr photonic crystal slabs

Layered van der Waals antiferromagnet CrSBr supports strong light--matter coupling and formation of magnetically tunable exciton-polaritons, yet active magnetic control over polariton propagation direction has remained elusive. Here, we investigate self-hybridized exciton-polaritons in photonic crystal slabs fabricated from CrSBr flakes and their evolution across the antiferromagnetic-to-ferromagnetic spin-flip transition induced by moderate in-plane magnetic fields. Using angle-resolved reflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopy supported by modeling, we show that the polariton energy continuously tracks the layer-by-layer magnetization switching, revealing a gradual redistribution of oscillator strength from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic excitons near the critical field. Most notably, we demonstrate that the sign of the polariton group velocity can be reversed by a small change in the external magnetic field of only 40 mT, resulting in complete switching of the polariton propagation direction. Our results establish CrSBr photonic crystal slabs as a platform for magnetically controlled polariton transport, opening opportunities for active integrated photonic and polaritonic devices.

Giant synthetic gauge field for spinless microcavity polaritons in crossed electric and magnetic fields

The artificial gauge field for electrically neutral exciton polaritons devoid from the polarization degree of freedom can be synthesized by means of applying crossed electric and magnetic fields. The appearance of the gauge potential can be ascribed to the motional (magneto-electric) Stark effect which is responsible for the presence of a linear-in-momentum contribution to the exciton kinetic energy. We study the interplay of this phenomenon with the competing effect which arises from the Rabi-splitting renormalization due the reduction of the electron-hole overlap for a moving exciton. Accounting for this mechanism is crucial in the structures with the high ratio of Rabi splitting and the exciton binding energy. Besides, we propose an approach which boosts the gauge field in the considered system. It takes advantage of the crossover from the hydrogen-like exciton to the strongly dipole-polarized exciton state at a specific choice of electric and magnetic fields. The strong sensitivity of the exciton energy to the momentum in this regime leads to the large values of the gauge field. We consider the specific example of a GaAs ring-shape polariton Berry phase interferometer and show that the flux of the effective magnetic field may approach the flux quantum value in the considered crossover regime.

The optical control of phase locking of polariton condensates

The phase and the frequency of an exciton polariton condensate excited by a nonresonant pump can be efficiently manipulated by an external coherent light. Being tuned close to the resonance with the condensate eigenfrequency, the external laser light imposes its frequency to the condensate and locks its phase, thereby manifesting a synchronization effect. The conditions of formation of the phase synchronized regime are determined. The synchronization of a couple of closely spaced polariton condensates by a spatially uniform coherent light is examined. At the moderate strength of the coherent driving the synchronization is accompanied by the appearance of symmetry-breaking states of the polariton dyad, while these states are superseded by the symmetric state at the high-intensity driving. By employing a zero-dimensional model of coupled dissipative oscillators with both dissipative and conservative coupling, we study the bifurcation scenario of the symmetry-breaking state formation.

Permanent Rabi oscillations in coupled exciton-photon systems with PT-symmetry

We propose a physical mechanism which enables permanent Rabi oscillations in driven-dissipative condensates of exciton-polaritons in semiconductor microcavities subjected to external magnetic fields. The method is based on incoherent excitonic reservoir engineering. We demonstrate that permanent non-decaying oscillations may appear due to the parity-time (PT) symmetry of the coupled exciton-photon system realised in a specific regime of pumping to the exciton state and depletion of the reservoir. For effective non-zero exciton-photon detuning, permanent Rabi oscillations occur with unequal amplitudes of exciton and photon components. Our predictions pave way to realisation of integrated circuits based on exciton-polariton condensates.
