Perturbations and quasinormal modes of black holes in general relativity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics

We investigate the quasinormal spectra and time-domain evolution of scalar, electromagnetic, and gravitational perturbations of the Einstein-Bronnikov black hole in Einstein gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. The effective potentials associated with all perturbation sectors are shown to form positive potential barriers that vanish at the event horizon and spatial infinity. Their height increases with the magnetic charge, while the scalar perturbation possesses the largest potential barrier. Unlike the Reissner-Nordström black hole, axial and polar electromagnetic perturbations are characterized by distinct effective potentials, demonstrating the breaking of isospectrality due to nonlinear electrodynamics. Quasinormal frequencies are computed using the sixth-order WKB approximation and the asymptotic iteration method, yielding excellent agreement for both fundamental and higher overtone modes. The oscillation frequencies increase monotonically with the magnetic charge, whereas the damping rates exhibit only moderate variations, confirming the linear stability of the Einstein-Bronnikov black hole under all perturbations considered. Time-domain profiles display exponentially damped ringdown signals consistent with the frequency-domain analysis. These results demonstrate that nonlinear electrodynamics leaves measurable imprints on black hole perturbations and may provide observational signatures for testing regular black hole geometries through future gravitational wave observations.

Low-mass X-ray binaries as a probe of Kerr-MOG black hole spacetime

We investigate the astrophysical implications of rotating black holes in modified gravity by studying the Kerr-MOG spacetime and applying it to several stellar-mass black hole candidates: A0620-00, H1743-322, XTE J1550-564, GRS1124-683, GRO J1655-40, and GRS1915+105. The Kerr-MOG geometry is characterized by the black hole mass, the spin parameter $a$, and the modified gravity parameter $α$. We analyze how the presence of the MOG parameter modifies the spacetime structure and the location of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO). Within the Novikov--Thorne accretion disk model, we show that $α$ significantly affects the radiative efficiency of accretion disks and introduces a degeneracy between the spin and the modified gravity parameter. Using observational estimates of radiative efficiencies inferred from the continuum-fitting method, we constrain the allowed regions in the $(a,α)$ parameter space for each source. We further examine the relativistic jet power using the Blandford--Znajek mechanism and compare the theoretical predictions with the observed transient jet energetics, considering two representative jet Lorentz factors, $Γ=2$ and $Γ=5$. By combining the constraints from the radiative efficiency and jet power, we identify regions where both observables can be simultaneously reproduced. For several sources significant overlap regions appear, while for the highly spinning source GRS1915+105 the compatibility occurs only within a narrow range of Kerr--MOG parameters. These results suggest that the Kerr--MOG spacetime can provide a viable framework for interpreting the observed properties of several black hole X-ray binaries.

Probing Dark Matter and Phantom Field Effects on Neutrino Oscillations around Black Holes

This study investigates how dark matter in the background of the phantom field (DMPF) near a black hole influences neutrino flavor oscillations using a two-flavor model. It is found that gravitational effects are cancelled for radially moving neutrinos, causing the oscillation phase to increase with distance and mass-splitting, similar to flat spacetime. However, deflected neutrinos experience additional phase shifts due to dark matter, which slightly alters the mass-difference term and the total phase. Numerical analysis supports these findings and reveals a degeneracy between lens mass and dark matter parameters, affecting the transition probability curves based on source angle changes. Neutrinos modeled as Gaussian wave packets show that decoherence in a gravitational field is minimally influenced by dark matter, with the absolute neutrino mass determining the oscillation duration. Our findings imply that curved spacetime and dark matter significantly impact neutrino oscillations, offering potential insights into dark matter through neutrino astronomy in extreme environments.

Dynamics, Ringdown, and Accretion-Driven Multiple Quasi-Periodic Oscillations of Kerr-Bertotti-Robinson Black Holes

We study the motion of test particles around the Kerr--Bertotti--Robinson (KBR) black hole (BH) and explore how the three defining parameters, the mass $M$, rotation parameter $a$, and magnetic parameter $B$ influence their dynamics. We derive analytical expressions for the energy and angular momentum of stable equatorial circular orbits, along with the corresponding radial and latitudinal oscillation frequencies, as functions of $M$, $a$, and $B$. We also examine the key features of the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) of test particles near stable circular orbits, including the precession effects such as periastron precession and the Lense-Thirring effect. We compare our results with those corresponding to the Kerr BH. We find that the particle motion is strongly shaped by the BH parameters. Using a WKB approach, we also study scalar quasinormal modes of rotating KBR BH in an external magnetic field and show that the magnetic field increases damping, while rotation and angular momentum mainly set the oscillation frequencies. Alternatively, general relativistic modeling of Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton (BHL) accretion onto rapidly rotating KBR BH shows that two distinct physical structures emerge and cyclically transform into one another over time. These processes produce either a strongly oscillating flip-flop shock cone or a nearly stationary toroidal structure, with their formation governed by the BH spin and magnetic curvature. Power spectral analysis shows that these configurations give rise to low- and high-frequency QPO, providing a unified theoretical framework to understand how multiple QPO-like features can arise in rapidly spinning accreting systems.

Long-lived quasinormal modes and asymptotic tails of regular Schwarzschild-like black holes in the presence of a magnetic field

We analyze the evolution of perturbations of a (charged) massive scalar field near a regular Simpson-Visser black hole, allowing for a non-zero external magnetic field. We show that the damping rate of the quasinormal frequencies is strongly suppressed by both the magnetic field and the mass term, with indications that arbitrarily long-lived modes, or quasi-resonances, may exist in the spectrum. In the time domain, the quasinormal ringing transitions into slowly decaying oscillatory tails, which are qualitatively distinct from the massive tails observed in the absence of a magnetic field. For nonzero multipole and azimuthal numbers, the power-law envelope characteristic of cases without a magnetic field transforms into an oscillatory envelope that cannot be easily fitted with a simple analytical formula.

Probing black hole in Starobinsky-Bel-Robinson gravity with thermodynamical analysis, effective force and gravitational weak lensing

In this work, we investigate the effects of plasma and the coupling parameter $β>0$, on the thermodynamic properties and weak gravitational lensing by the Schwarzschild-like black hole in the Starobinsky-Bel-Robinson gravity (SBRG). We observe that the horizon radius and the corrected entropy of the Schwarzschild-like black hole in the SBRG are not much sensitive to the parameter $β$. On contrary the energy emission rate of the Schwarzschild-like black hole in the SBRG is sensitive to the parameter $β$ and decreases with increase in the values of the parameter $β$. We see that the Schwarzschild-like black hoe in the SBRG is stable as the thermodynamicl temperature is positive for different values of the parameter $β$. Moreover we observe that the deflection angle of photon beam by the black hole in uniform plasma, nonuniform self-interacting scalar plasma and non-singular isothermal gas sphere reduces with the parameter $β$, against the impact parameter $b$. We see that the deflection angle enhances with increase in the concentration of the plasma fields for all the three types of plasma media. Further we find that the magnification of the image due to lensing increases in a higher concentration of plasma field. It is interesting to notice that the image magnification in uniform plasma is much higher as compared to the one in nonuniform plasma field. We compare our results with those for the Schwarzschild black hole of General Relativity. Further, effective force is also calculated for the current analysis.

Shadows and gravitational weak lensing by the Schwarzschild black hole in the string cloud background with quintessential field

In this work, we observe that in the presence of the string cloud parameter $a$ and the quintessence parameter $γ$, with the equation of state parameter $ω_q={-2}/{3}$ the radius of the shadow of the Schwarzschild black hole increases as compared with the pure Schwarzschild black hole case. The existence of both quintessential dark energy and cloud of strings magnify the shadow size and hence the strength of the gravitational field around the Schwarzschild black hole increases. Using the data collected by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration for the M87* and Sgr A*, we obtain upper bounds on the values of the parameters $a$ and $γ$. Further, we see the effects of the parameters $a$ and $γ$ on the rate of emission energy for the Schwarzschild black hole. We notice that the rate of emission energy is higher in the presence of clouds of string and quintessence. Moreover, we study the weak deflection angle using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We show the influence of the cloud of string parameter $a$ and the quintessential parameter $γ$ on the weak deflection angle. We notice that both the parameters $a$ and $γ$ increase the deflection angle $α$.

Shadow and quasinormal modes of the Kerr-Newman-Kiselev-Letelier black hole

We investigate the null geodesics and the shadow cast by the Kerr-Newman-Kiselev-Letelier (KNKL) black hole for the equation of state parameter $ω_q=-2/3$ and for different values of the spacetime parameters, including the quintessence parameter $γ$, the cloud of string (CS) parameter $b$, the spin parameter $a$ and the charge $Q$ of the black hole. We notice that for the increasing values of the parameters $γ$ and $b$ the size of the shadow of the KNKL black hole increases and consequently the strength of the gravitational field of the black hole increases. On the other hand with increase in the charge $Q$ of the black hole the size of the shadow of the black hole decreases. Further with the increase in the values of the spin parameter $a$ of the KNKL black hole, we see that the distortion of the shadow of the black hole becomes more prominent. Moreover we use the data released by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, to restrict the parameters $b$ and $γ$ for the KNKL black hole, using the shadow cast by the KNKL black hole. To this end, we also explore the relation between the typical shadow radius and the equatorial and polar quasinormal mods (QNMs) for the KNKL black hole and extend this correspondence to non-asymptotically flat spacetimes. We also study the emission energy rate from the KNKL black hole for the various spacetime parameters, and observe that it increases for the increasing values of both the parameters $γ$ and $b$ for fixed charge-to-mass and spin-to-mass ratios of the KNKL black hole. Finally, we investigate the effects of plasma on the photon motion, size and shape of the shadow cast by the KNKL black hole...

Optical Properties of an Axially Symmetric Black Hole in the Rastall Gravity

This work is devoted to the study of the optical properties of the charged-rotating-NUT-Kiselev (CRNK) black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity. By investigating the motion of photons in the CRNK black hole spacetime in the Rastall gravity we show that the deflection angle of photons due to the gravitational lensing is mostly influenced by the NUT charge, parameter of the equation of state for the quintessence and the quintessential intensity. We observe that the effects of the rest of the spacetime parameters are negligible on the deflection angle. We present the shape of the shadow cast by the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity for various values of the spacetime parameters. We demonstrate that spin parameter $a$ of the black hole changes the position and size of the shadow of the black hole very little. While changing the values of the rest of the spacetime parameters can alter the shape and the size of the observed shadow of the black hole significantly. We observe that the radius of the black hole shadow and the deflection angle of a photon are bigger for the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity, as compared with the case of the Kerr black hole. Lastly, we show how the spacetime parameters can change the observables $R_s$ and $δ_s$, being the average radius of the shadow and the distortion parameter that measures the deviation of the shape of the shadow from a perfect circle with radius $R_s$, respectively. Our results show that in most scenarios, for bigger values of $R_s$ we get smaller values of the parameter $δ_s$.

Dynamics and Fundamental Frequencies of Test Particles Orbiting Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev Blacks Hole in Rastall Gravity

The spacetime properties in the exterior of the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity, through particle dynamics are investigated with the aim to find possible degeneracy of the different black hole parameters. We show that the effective potential, the energy, and the angular momentum of a test particle moving in the spacetime of such a black hole strongly depend on the central black hole parameters. We also evaluate the innermost stable circular orbit radii of test particles and show how the spacetime parameters can act on them. Further, we show the results for the fundamental frequencies of test particles moving at small distances from the circular orbits in the equatorial plane. We demonstrate that change in the Rastall parameter $κλ$, can make the radial epicyclic frequency to become zero at larger distances from the central source. We also notice that for the vertical epicyclic frequencies, in the case of the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity lower frequencies are observed as compared to the frequencies observed in the case of the Kerr black hole. Finally, we show that for the Kerr-Newman-NUT-Kiselev black hole in the Rastall gravity, the Keplerian frequencies are almost identical with the frequencies noticed in the case of the Kerr black hole and the difference between the two can only be observed in the regions in a very close vicinity to the central black hole, studied in the present work.

Motion of Particles and Gravitational Lensing Around (2+1)-dimensional BTZ black holes in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We study motion of test particles and photons in the vicinity of (2+1) dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB) BTZ black hole. We find that the presence of the coupling constant serves as an attractive gravitational charge, shifting the innermost stable circular orbits outward with respect to the one for this theory in 4 dimensions. Further we consider the gravitational lensing, to test the GB gravity in (2+1) dimensions and show that the presence of GB parameter causes the bending angle to grow up first with the increase of the inverse of closest approach distance, $u_0$, then have its maximum value for specific $u_0^*$, and then reduce until zero. We also show that increase in the value of the GB parameter makes the bending angle smaller and the increase in the absolute value of the negative cosmological constant produces opposite effect on this angle.

Quasi Periodic Oscillations of Test Particles and Red-Blue Shifts of the Photons Emitted By the Charged Test Particles Orbiting the Charged Black Hole in the Presence of Quintessence and Clouds of Strings

Here we examine the circular motion of test particles and photons in the spacetime geometry of charged black hole surrounded by quintessence and clouds of strings for the equation of state parameter $ω_q=-2/3$. We observe that there exist stable circular orbits in this geometry for very small values of the quintessence and string cloud parameters, i.e., $0<γ<<1$ and $0<α<<1$. We observe that if the values of $γ$ and $α$ increase, the test particle can more easily escape the gravitational field of the black hole. While the effect of the charge $Q$ of the black hole on the effective potential is just opposite to that of the $γ$ and $α$. Further, we investigate the quasi-periodic oscillations of test particles near the stable circular orbits. With the increasing values of $Q$, the stable circular orbits get away from the central object; therefore, one can observe lower epicyclic frequencies away from the central gravitating source with the increase in the values of $Q$. The redshift parameter $z$ of the photons emitted by the charged test particles moving in the stable circular orbits around the central source increases with an increase in the parameter $α$ and decreases with an increase in the values of the charge $Q$. In the Banados-Silk-West (BSW) process study, we note that the centre of mass-energy at the horizon of this Riessner-Nordstrom black hole with quintessence and string clouds increases indefinitely if the charge of one of the colliding particles attains its critical value. For a better understanding of the study, we show the dependence of the radii of the circular orbits, energy and angular momentum of the particles, effective potential, effective force, quasi-periodic oscillations and red-blue shifts of photons of the test particles in the circular orbits on the parameters $α$, $γ$ and $Q$ graphically.

Traversable wormholes in the extended teleparallel theory of gravity with matter coupling

This study explores the Gaussian and the Lorentzian distributed spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in the $f(τ, T)$ gravity. The basic idea of the Gaussian and Lorentzian noncommutative geometries emerges as the physically acceptable and substantial notion in quantum physics. This idea of the noncommutative geometries with both the Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions becomes more striking when wormhole geometries in the modified theories of gravity are discussed. Here we consider a linear model within $f(τ,T)$ gravity to investigate traversable wormholes. In particular, we discuss the possible cases for the wormhole geometries using the Gaussian and the Lorentzian noncommutative distributions to obtain the exact shape function for them. By incorporating the particular values of the unknown parameters involved, we discuss different properties of the new wormhole geometries explored here. It is noted that the involved matter violates the weak energy condition for both the cases of the noncommutative geometries, whereas there is a possibility for a physically viable wormhole solution. By analyzing the equilibrium condition, it is found that the acquired solutions are stable. Furthermore, we provide the embedded diagrams for wormhole structures under Gaussian and Lorentzian noncommutative frameworks. Moreover, we present the critical analysis on an anisotropic pressure under the Gaussian and the Lorentzian distributions.

A study of positive energy condition in Bianchi V spacetimes via Noether symmetries

In this paper we use Noether symmetries of the geodesic Lagrangian in Bianchi V spacetimes to study various cosmological solutions of Einstein's field equations. Our first result is the identification of the subalgebras of Noether symmetries of the equations of motions in such spacetimes with dimension 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10 of the maximal algebra of Lie point symmetries of dimension 13. Secondly we give physical interpretation of new cosmological solutions which satisfy positive energy condition and yield critical bounds on the expansion coefficient $α$, in which the underlying non-flat spacetimes carry interesting physical properties. Specifically the energy density behaves in one of the following ways. (i) It is positive and constant for all time. (ii) It varies with time and attains a global maximum after some time and then asymptotically converges to zero. (iii) It increases for all time and attains a maximum value at the asymptotic limit $t\rightarrow \infty$. In particular a non-flat spacetime is obtained that mimics the expansion in a flat FRW universe dominated by vacuum energy such that the expansion factor has the same form in both. However, the energy density is dynamical in the former.

Marginally Stable Circular Orbits in Schwarzschild Black Hole Surrounded by Quintessence Matter

Marginally stable circular orbits (MSCOs) of a massive test particle are investigated in the spacetime geometry of Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by quintessence. For that matter we consider three important scenarios where the equation of state parameter $ω_{q}$, has one of the following forms (i) $ω_q=-1$ (ii) $ω_q=-2/3$ and (iii) $ω_q= -1/3$. The existence of such marginally stable circular orbits in these scenarios depend on the range of normalization factor $α$. Briefly, we show that in the first case such orbits exist only if $0<α<4/16875$. Moreover in the second case which is a special Kiselev black hole it is found that MSCOs exist when the value of the normalization factor satisfy $0<α\leq 0.00536165238$. In the last case the MSCOs are also shown to exist.

A Slowly Rotating Black Hole in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity and a 3+1 Dimensional Topological Black Hole: Motion of Particles and BSW Mechanism

The motion of a neutral particle in the vicinity of a slowly rotating black hole in the Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity and 3+1 dimensional topological Lifshitz black hole is investigated. Geodesics for radial motion of the particles are also plotted. Some different cases of the orbital motion of the particle are discussed where maximum and minimum values of the effective potential are calculated. Further the Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) mechanism is studied for these black holes. It is shown that the centre-of-mass energy (CME) of two colliding uncharged particles at the horizon of these black holes remains finite. Thus the BSW effect cannot be seen in these cases.

Dynamics of a Charged Particle Around a Slowly Rotating Kerr Black Hole Immersed in Magnetic Field

The dynamics of a charged particle moving around a slowly rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of an external magnetic field is investigated. We are interested to explore the conditions under which the charged particle can escape from the gravitational field of the black hole after colliding with another particle. The escape velocity of the charged particle in the innermost stable circular orbit is calculated. The effective potential and escape velocity of the charged particle with angular momentum in the presence of magnetic field is analyzed. This work serves as an extension of a preceding paper dealing with the Schwarzschild black hole [Zahrani {\it et al}, Phys. Rev. D 87, 084043 (2013)].
