On $\tau$-tilting theory

We give a brief introduction to $\tau$-tilting theory [AIR]. In particular, we will see how our theory unifies two different branches of tilting theory, namely, silting theory and cluster tilting theory. We also introduce the history and recent developments.

Lattice theory of torsion classes: Beyond $\tau$-tilting theory

The aim of this paper is to establish a lattice theoretical framework to study the partially ordered set $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$ of torsion classes over a finite-dimensional algebra $A$. We show that $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$ is a complete lattice which enjoys very strong properties, as bialgebraicity and complete semidistributivity. Thus its Hasse quiver carries the important part of its structure, and we introduce the brick labelling of its Hasse quiver and use it to study lattice congruences of $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$. In particular, we give a representation-theoretical interpretation of the so-called forcing order, and we prove that $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$ is completely congruence uniform. When $I$ is a two-sided ideal of $A$, $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} (A/I)$ is a lattice quotient of $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$ which is called an algebraic quotient, and the corresponding lattice congruence is called an algebraic congruence. The second part of this paper consists in studying algebraic congruences. We characterize the arrows of the Hasse quiver of $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} A$ that are contracted by an algebraic congruence in terms of the brick labelling. In the third part, we study in detail the case of preprojective algebras $\Pi$, for which $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} \Pi$ is the Weyl group endowed with the weak order. In particular, we give a new, more representation theoretical proof of the isomorphism between $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} k Q$ and the Cambrian lattice when $Q$ is a Dynkin quiver. We also prove that, in type $A$, the algebraic quotients of $\operatorname{\mathsf{tors}} \Pi$ are exactly its Hasse-regular lattice quotients.

Dominant dimension and tilting modules

We study which algebras have tilting modules that are both generated and cogenerated by projective-injective modules. Crawley-Boevey and Sauter have shown that Auslander algebras have such tilting modules; and for algebras of global dimension $2$, Auslander algebras are classified by the existence of such tilting modules. In this paper, we show that the existence of such a tilting module is equivalent to the algebra having dominant dimension at least $2$, independent of its global dimension. In general such a tilting module is not necessarily cotilting. Here, we show that the algebras which have a tilting-cotilting module generated-cogenerated by projective-injective modules are precisely $1$-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras. When considering such a tilting module, without the assumption that it is cotilting, we study the global dimension of its endomorphism algebra, and discuss a connection with the Finitistic Dimension Conjecture. Furthermore, as special cases, we show that triangular matrix algebras obtained from Auslander algebras and certain injective modules, have such a tilting module. We also give a description of which Nakayama algebras have such a tilting module.

Lattice structure of Weyl groups via representation theory of preprojective algebras

This paper studies the combinatorics of lattice congruences of the weak order on a finite Weyl group $W$, using representation theory of the corresponding preprojective algebra $\Pi$. Natural bijections are constructed between important objects including join-irreducible congruences, join-irreducible (respectively, meet-irreducible) elements of $W$, indecomposable $\tau$-rigid (respectively, $\tau^-$-rigid) modules and layers of $\Pi$. The lattice-theoretically natural labelling of the Hasse quiver by join-irreducible elements of $W$ is shown to coincide with the algebraically natural labelling by layers of $\Pi$. We show that layers of $\Pi$ are nothing but bricks (or equivalently stones, or 2-spherical modules). The forcing order on join-irreducible elements of $W$ (arising from the study of lattice congruences) is described algebraically in terms of the doubleton extension order. We give a combinatorial description of indecomposable $\tau^-$-rigid modules for type $A$ and $D$.

Rigid and Schurian modules over cluster-tilted algebras of tame type

We give an example of a cluster-tilted algebra A with quiver Q, such that the associated cluster algebra has a denominator vector which is not the dimension vector of any indecomposable A-module. This answers a question posed by T. Nakanishi. The relevant example is a cluster-tilted algebra associated with a tame hereditary algebra. We show that for such a cluster-tilted algebra A, we can write any denominator vector as a sum of the dimension vectors of at most three indecomposable rigid A-modules. In order to do this it is necessary, and of independent interest, to first classify the indecomposable rigid A-modules in this case.

Algebras of finite representation type arising from maximal rigid objects

We give a complete classification of all algebras appearing as endomorphism algebras of maximal rigid objects in standard 2-Calabi-Yau categories of finite type. Such categories are equivalent to certain orbit categories of derived categories of Dynkin algebras. It turns out that with one exception, all the algebras that occur are $2$-Calabi-Yau-tilted, and therefore appear in an earlier classification by Bertani-Økland and Oppermann. We explain this phenomenon by investigating the subcategories generated by rigid objects in standard 2-Calabi-Yau categories of finite type.

Lattice structure of torsion classes for path algebras

We consider module categories of path algebras of connected acyclic quivers. It is shown in this paper that the set of functorially finite torsion classes form a lattice if and only if the quiver is either Dynkin quiver of type A, D, E, or the quiver has exactly two vertices.

Stable categories of Cohen-Macaulay modules and cluster categories

By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $Λ$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $Λ$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Quotient closed subcategories of quiver representations

Let Q be a finite quiver without oriented cycles, and let k be an algebraically closed field. The main result in this paper is that there is a natural bijection between the elements in the associated Coxeter group W_Q and the cofinite additive quotient-closed subcategories of the category of finite dimensional right modules over kQ. We prove this correspondence by linking these subcategories to certain ideals in the preprojective algebra associated to Q, which are also indexed by elements of W_Q.

Introduction to $τ$-tilting theory

From the viewpoint of mutation, we will give a brief survey of tilting theory and cluster-tilting theory together with a motivation from cluster algebras. Then we will give an introdution to τ-tilting theory which was recently developed in [AIR].

τ-tilting theory

The aim of this paper is to introduce tau-tilting theory, which completes (classical) tilting theory from the viewpoint of mutation. It is well-known in tilting theory that an almost complete tilting module for any finite dimensional algebra over a field k is a direct summand of exactly 1 or 2 tilting modules. An important property in cluster tilting theory is that an almost complete cluster-tilting object in a 2-CY triangulated category is a direct summand of exactly 2 cluster-tilting objects. Reformulated for path algebras kQ, this says that an almost complete support tilting modules has exactly two complements. We generalize (support) tilting modules to what we call (support) tau-tilting modules, and show that an almost support tau-tilting module has exactly two complements for any finite dimensional algebra. For a finite dimensional k-algebra A, we establish bijections between functorially finite torsion classes in mod A, support tau-tilting modules and two-term silting complexes in Kb(proj A). Moreover these objects correspond bijectively to cluster-tilting objects in C if A is a 2-CY tilted algebra associated with a 2-CY triangulated category C. As an application, we show that the property of having two complements holds also for two-term silting complexes in Kb(proj A).

Fundamental domains of cluster categories inside module categories

Let $H$ be a finite dimensional hereditary algebra over an algebraically closed field, and let $\mathcal{C}_{H}$ be the corresponding cluster category. We give a description of the (standard) fundamental domain of $\mathcal{C}_{H} $ in the bounded derived category $\mathcal{D}^{b}(H)$, and of the cluster-tilting objects, in terms of the category $\modΓ$\ of finitely generated modules over a suitable tilted algebra $% Γ.$ Furthermore, we apply this description to obtain (the quiver of) an arbitrary cluster-tilted algebra.

Preprojective algebras and c-sortable words

Let $Q$ be an acyclic quiver and $Λ$ be the complete preprojective algebra of $Q$ over an algebraically closed field $k$. To any element $w$ in the Coxeter group of $Q$, Buan, Iyama, Reiten and Scott have introduced and studied in \cite{Bua2} a finite dimensional algebra $Λ_w=Λ/I_w$. In this paper we look at filtrations of $Λ_w$ associated to any reduced expression $\mathbf{w}$ of $w$. We are especially interested in the case where the word $\mathbf{w}$ is $c$-sortable, where $c$ is a Coxeter element. In this situation, the consecutive quotients of this filtration can be related to tilting $kQ$-modules with finite torsionfree class.

From m-clusters to m-noncrossing partitions via exceptional sequences

Let W be a finite crystallographic reflection group. The generalized Catalan number of W coincides both with the number of clusters in the cluster algebra associated to W, and with the number of noncrossing partitions for W. Natural bijections between these two sets are known. For any positive integer m, both m-clusters and m-noncrossing partitions have been defined, and the cardinality of both these sets is the Fuss-Catalan number. We give a natural bijection between these two sets by first establishing a bijection between two particular sets of exceptional sequences in the bounded derived category for any finite-dimensional hereditary algebra.

Mutation of cluster-tilting objects and potentials

We prove that mutation of cluster-tilting objects in triangulated 2-Calabi-Yau categories is closely connected with mutation of quivers with potentials. This gives a close connection between 2-CY-tilted algebras and Jacobian algebras associated with quivers with potentials. We show that cluster-tilted algebras are Jacobian and also that they are determined by their quivers. There are similar results when dealing with tilting modules over 3-CY algebras. The nearly Morita equivalence for 2-CY-tilted algebras is shown to hold for the finite length modules over Jacobian algebras.

Cluster categories

Cluster algebras were introduced by Fomin-Zelevinsky in 2002 in order to give a combinatorial framework for phenomena occurring in the context of algebraic groups. Cluster algebras also have links to a wide range of other subjects, including the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras, as first discovered by Marsh- Reineke-Zelevinsky. Modifying module categories over hereditary algebras, cluster categories were introduced in work with Buan-Marsh-Reineke-Todorov in order to "categorify" the essential ingredients in the definition of cluster algebras in the acyclic case. They were shown to be triangulated by Keller. Related work was done by Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer using preprojective algebras of Dynkin type. In work by many authors there have been further developments, leading to feedback to cluster algebras, new interesting classes of finite dimensional algebras, and the investigation of categories of Calabi-Yau dimension $2.$

The ubiquity of generalized cluster categories

Associated with some finite dimensional algebras of global dimension at most 2, a generalized cluster category was introduced in \cite{Ami3}, which was shown to be triangulated and 2-Calabi-Yau when it is $\Hom$-finite. By definition, the cluster categories of \cite{Bua} are a special case. In this paper we show that a large class of 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories, including those associated with elements in Coxeter groups from \cite{Bua2}, are triangle equivalent to generalized cluster categories. This was already shown for some special elements in \cite{Ami3}.
