On the universal and generalized orbifold Euler characteristics

We discuss the universal orbifold Euler characteristic and generalized orbifold Euler characteristics corresponding to finitely generated groups $A$ (the $A$-Euler characteristics). We show that the collection of all $A$-Euler characteristics for $A$ of the form $A'\times Z$ ($Z$ is the group of integers) with finite $A'$ determine the universal orbifold Euler characteristic.

Grothendieck ring of pairs of quasi-projective varieties

We define a Grothendieck ring of pairs of complex quasi-projective varieties (that is a variety and a subvariety). We describe $\lambda$-structures and a power structure on/over this ring. We show that the conjectual symmetric power of the projective line with several orbifold points described by A.Fonarev is consistent with the symmetric power of this line with points as a pair of varieties.

Power structure over the Grothendieck ring of maps

A power structure over a ring is a method to give sense to expressions of the form $(1+a_1t+a_2t^2+\ldots)^m$, where $a_i$, $i=1, 2,\ldots$, and $m$ are elements of the ring. The (natural) power structure over the Grothendieck ring of complex quasi-projective varieties appeared to be useful for a number of applications. We discuss new examples of $λ$- and power structures over some Grothendieck rings of varieties. The main example is for the Grothendieck ring of maps of complex quasi-projective varieties. We describe two natural $λ$-structures on it which lead to the same power structure. We show that this power structure is effective. In the terms of this power structure we write some equations containing classes of Hilbert-Chow morphisms. We describe some generalizations of this construction for maps of varieties with some additional structures.

On some conjectures about free and nearly free divisors

In this paper infinite families of examples of irreducible free and nearly free curves in the complex projective plane which are not rational curves and whose local singularites can have an arbitrary number of branches are given. All these examples answer negatively to some conjectures proposed by A. Dimca and G. Sticlaru. Our examples say nothing about the most remarkable conjecture by A. Dimca and G. Sticlaru, i.e. every rational cuspidal plane curve is either free or nearly free.

Integration over spaces of non-parametrized arcs and motivic versions of the monodromy zeta function

We elaborate notions of integration over the space of arcs factorized by the natural $C^*$-action and over the space of non-parametrized arcs (branches). There are offered two motivic versions of the zeta function of the classical monodromy transformation of a germ of an analytic function on a smooth space. We indicate a direct formula which connects the naive motivic zeta function of J. Denef and F. Loeser with the classical monodromy zeta function.

Power structure over the Grothendieck ring of varieties and generating series of Hilbert schemes of points

The power structure over the Grothendieck (semi)ring of complex quasi-projective varieties constructed by the authors is used to express the generating series of classes of Hilbert schemes of zero-dimensional subschemes on a smooth quasi-projective variety as an exponent of that for the complex affine space of the same dimension. Specializations of this relation give formulae for generating series of such invariants of the Hilbert schemes of points as the Euler characteristic and the Hodge-Deligne polynomial.
