Continuum dual theory of the transition in 3D lattice superconductor

A recently proposed form of dual theory for the three dimensional superconductor is rederived starting from the lattice electrodynamics and studied by renormalization group. The superfluid density below and close to the transition vanishes as inverse of the correlation length of the disorder field. The corresponding universal amplitude is given by the fixed point value of the dual charge, and it is calculated to the leading order. The continuum dual theory predicts the divergence of the magnetic field penetration depth with the XY exponent, in contradiction to the results obtained from the Ginzburg-Landau theory for the superconducting order-parameter. Possible reasons for this difference are discussed.

Critical fluctuations in superconductors and the magnetic field penetration depth

The superconducting transition is studied within the one-loop renormalization group in fixed dimension $D=3$ and at the critical point. A tricritical behavior is found, and for $κ> κ_c$, an attractive charged fixed point, distinct from that of a neutral superfluid. The critical exponents of the continuous transition are evaluated, and it is shown that the anomalous dimension of the gauge field equals unity. This implies the proportionality of the magnetic field penetration depth and the superconducting correlation length below the transition. The penetration depth exponent is nonclassical. We argue that it can not be extracted from the dual theory in a straightforward manner since it is not renormalized by fluctuations of the dual field.

First order melting of vortex lattice in strongly type-II three dimensional superconductors

We calculate the transition line of the first-order melting of vortex lattice in a three-dimensional type-II superconductor in fields of several Tesla, using the results from the density-functional theory of vortex melting in two dimensions and the self-consistent Hartree treatment of correlations along the field. The result is in quantitative agreement with experiment. The temperature width of the hysteresis, the latent heat, the Debye-Waller factor and the magnetization at the transition are discussed.

THE ANOMALOUS DIFFUSION IN HIGH MAGNETIC FIELD AND THE QUASIPARTICLE DENSITY OF STATES

We consider a disordered two-dimensional electronic system in the limit of high magnetic field at the metal-insulator transition. Density of states close to the Fermi level acquires a divergent correction to the lowest order in electron-electron interaction and shows a new power-law dependence on the energy, with the power given by the anomalous diffusion exponent $η$. This should be observable in the tunneling experiment with double-well GaAs heterostructure of the mobility $\propto 10^{4}V/s$ at temperatures of $\propto 10 mK$ and voltages of $\propto 1 μV$.

The High-Field Superconducting Transition induced by Correlated Disorder

The "glassy" superconducting transition at high magnetic fields can be induced by columnar disorder. A model is proposed in which the thermodynamics of Bose condensation of Cooper pairs into the lowest Landau-level eigenstate of the random potential can be solved exactly. The solution reflects a peculiar character of the high-field limit: for example, the effective dimensionality of the transition is shown to be a function of the magnetic field.
