CME Structure and Particle Acceleration

The differences of the ejection-image structures in the chromospheric lines and the coronal continuum are considered. The outer, more diffusive scattering envelope of the ejection seems to be produced by the excessive free electrons due to the Compton effect. The resulting electric field accelerate the particles while the hard radiation is acting. The directed motion of the accelerated particles induces the magnetic fields.

Coronal partings

The basic observational properties of "coronal partings" -- the special type of quasi-one-dimensional magnetic structures, identified by a comparison of the coronal X-ray and EUV images with solar magnetograms -- are investigated. They represent the channels of opposite polarity inside the unipolar large-scale magnetic fields, formed by the rows of magnetic arcs directed to the neighboring sources of the background polarity. The most important characteristics of the partings are discussed. It can be naturally assumed that -- from the evolutionary and spatial points of view -- the partings can transform into the coronal holes and visa versa. The classes of global, intersecting, and complex partings are identified.

Modulation of the Solar Wind Velocity by Mercury

To study the variations in the solar wind velocity during inferior conjunctions of Mercury and Earth, we analyzed 54 events in the period 1995 to 2012 by the superimposed epoch method. We have found a noticeable increase in the velocity both before and after the conjunctions as well as decrease in the velocity within 3-4 days after them, which seems to be associated with Mercury's "shadow". The results obtained might be used to improve a forecast of the solar wind velocity.
