Contact big fiber theorems

We prove contact big fiber theorems, analogous to the symplectic big fiber theorem by Entov and Polterovich, using symplectic cohomology with support. Unlike in the symplectic case, the validity of the statements requires conditions on the closed contact manifold. One such condition is to admit a Liouville filling with non-zero symplectic cohomology. In the case of Boothby-Wang contact manifolds, we prove the result under the condition that the Euler class of the circle bundle, which is the negative of an integral lift of the symplectic class, is not an invertible element in the quantum cohomology of the base symplectic manifold. As applications, we obtain new examples of rigidity of intersections in contact manifolds and also of contact non-squeezing.

Selective symplectic homology with applications to contact non-squeezing

We prove a contact non-squeezing phenomenon on homotopy spheres that are fillable by Liouville domains with infinite dimensional symplectic homology: there exists a smoothly embedded ball in such a sphere that cannot be made arbitrarily small by a contact isotopy. These homotopy spheres include examples that are diffeomorphic to standard spheres and whose contact structures are homotopic to standard contact structures. As the main tool, we construct a new version of symplectic homology, called selective symplectic homology, that is associated to a Liouville domain and an open subset of its boundary. The selective symplectic homology is obtained as the direct limit of Floer homology groups for Hamiltonians whose slopes tend to infinity on the open subset but remain close to 0 and positive on the rest of the boundary.

Exotic symplectomorphisms and contact circle actions

Using Floer-theoretic methods, we prove that the non-existence of an exotic symplectomorphism on the standard symplectic ball, $\mathbb{B}^{2n},$ implies a rather strict topological condition on the free contact circle actions on the standard contact sphere, $\mathbb{S}^{2n-1}.$ We also prove an analogue for a Liouville domain and contact circle actions on its boundary. Applications include results concerning the symplectic mapping class group and the fundamental group of the group of contactomorphisms.

Maximum principles in symplectic homology

In the setting of symplectic manifolds which are convex at infinity, we use a version of the Aleksandrov maximum principle to derive uniform estimates for Floer solutions that are valid for a wider class of Hamiltonians and almost complex structures than is usually considered. This allows us to extend the class of Hamiltonians which one can use in the direct limit when constructing symplectic homology. As an application, we detect elements of infinite order in the symplectic mapping class group of a Liouville domain, and obtain existence results for translated points.

Viterbo's transfer morphism for symplectomorphisms

We construct an analogue of Viterbo's transfer morphism for Floer homology of an automorphism of a Liouville domain. As an application we prove that the Dehn-Seidel twist along any Lagrangian sphere in a Liouville domain of dimension $\geqslant 4$ has infinite order in the symplectic mapping class group.

Floer homology of automorphisms of Liouville domains

We introduce a combination of fixed point Floer homology and symplectic homology for Liouville domains. As an application, we detect non-trivial elements in the symplectic mapping class group of a Liouville domain.
