Study of the Nonlinear Dependence of Anomalous Hall Conductivity on Magnetization in Weak Itinerant Ferromagnet ZrZn2

As opposed to the ordinary Hall effect, the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) remained unexplained for decades, and, amazingly, some misconceptions have survived even now, in particular, the claim that AHE is linearly related to the net magnetization. Karplus and Luttinger provided a quantum-mechanical explanation of AHE by explicitly including the SOC and the Berry curvature of electronic bands. They did address the question of linearity, but only in the relatively uncommon limit of the exchange coupling smaller than SOC. Now the linear relation in traditional ferromagnets is understood as a domain population effect: both AHE and magnetization are independently proportional to the domain disbalance. In this connection, it is interesting to check to what extent this relation will hold in {\em single-domain} itinerant ferromagnet, the closest case to that analyzed by Karplus and Luttinger? We answer this question by direct calculations, using the Karplus-Luttinger formula, of AHE in a prototypical itinerant ferromagnet, ZrZn$_2$. We show that in the zero-magnetization limit, $M\rightarrow 0$, the linear relation hold, but at rather small moments of $\sim 0.4\ μ_B$/Zr breaks down completely and even flips the sign.

Electronic structure of a layered altermagnetic compound CoNb4Se8

Recently, there has been a growing interest in altermagnetism, a novel form of magnetism, characterized by unique spin-splitting even in the absence of both net magnetic moments and spin-orbit coupling. Despite numerous theoretical predictions, experimental evidence of such spin-splitting in real materials remains limited. In this study, we use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations to investigate the electronic band structure of the altermagnet candidate CoNb4Se8. This material features an ordered sublattice of intercalated Co atoms within NbSe2 layers. Magnetization and electrical resistivity measurements reveal the onset of antiferromagnetism below 168 K. Temperature dependent ARPES data, supported by DFT calculations, uncover spin split bands along the MGM high-symmetry direction. The observation of spin splitting in this high temperature altermagnet opens new avenues for exploring its electronic properties and potential applications in spintronic technologies.

Anomalous gap ratio in anisotropic superconductors: aluminum under pressure

Pressure dependence of the thermodynamic critical field $B_{\mathrm{c}}$ in elemental aluminum was studied by means of the muon-spin rotation/relaxation technique. Pressure enhances the deviation of $B_{\mathrm{c}}(T)$ from the parabolic behavior, expected for a typical type-I superconductor, thus suggesting the weakening of the gap ratio $\langleα\rangle=\langle Δ\rangle/k_{\mathrm{B} }T_{\mathrm{c}}$ ($\langleΔ\rangle$ is the average value of the superconducting energy gap, $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ is the transition temperature and $k_{\mathrm{B}}$ is the Boltzmann constant). With the pressure increase from 0.0 to $\simeq1.6$ GPa, $\langleα\rangle$ decreases almost linearly from 1.73 to 1.67. Our results imply, therefore, that in elemental aluminum the gap ratio $\langleα\rangle$ is smaller than the weak-coupled BCS prediction $α_{\mathrm{BCS}}\simeq1.764$ and it is even further reduced under pressure.
