Wythoff-Fibonacci Sequences and a Perturbed Greedy Almost-involution

We introduce the lower and upper Wythoff-Fibonacci sequences, obtained from the classical Wythoff sequences by a Fibonacci correction. Specifically, if we put $$ε(j)=\begin{cases}(-1)^k, & \text{if }j=F_k\text{ for some }k\\ 0, & \text{in other case}\end{cases},$$ where $F_k$ is the $k$-th Fibonacci number, then we define the general terms of the lower and upper Wythoff-Fibonacci sequences by $$LWF(n)=\begin{cases} 1, & \text{if }n=1,\\ 3, & \text{if }n=2,\\ a(n)+ε(n), & \text{if }n\geq 3.\end{cases}$$ and $$UWF(n)=\begin{cases} 2, & \text{if }n=1,\\ b(n)+ε(n), & \text{if }n\geq 2,\end{cases}$$ respectively. We show that these sequences partition the set of natural numbers and use them to give an explicit formula for a sequence $q^{\star}_j$, defined from a greedy construction studied by the first author and his coauthors in a previous paper, but with the additional condition that $q^{\star}_1=3$, instead of being defined by the greedy rule. This sequence is a permutation of the set of non-negative integers and has the property that every integer appears exactly once in the sequence of differences $q^{\star}_j-j$. We prove that $q^{\star}_{q^{\star}_j}=j\ \forall j\geq 5$, so that $q^{\star}_j$ is an almost-involution. We also give another greedy algorithm generating $q^{\star}_j$.

IA generativa aplicada a la detección del cáncer a través de Resonancia Magnética

Cognitive delegation to artificial intelligence (AI) systems is transforming scientific research by enabling the automation of analytical processes and the discovery of new patterns in large datasets. This study examines the ability of AI to complement and expand knowledge in the analysis of breast cancer using dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI). Building on a previous study, we assess the extent to which AI can generate novel approaches and successfully solve them. For this purpose, AI models, specifically ChatGPT-4o, were used for data preprocessing, hypothesis generation, and the application of clustering techniques, predictive modeling, and correlation network analysis. The results obtained were compared with manually computed outcomes, revealing limitations in process transparency and the accuracy of certain calculations. However, as AI reduces errors and improves reasoning capabilities, an important question arises regarding the future of scientific research: could automation replace the human role in science? This study seeks to open the debate on the methodological and ethical implications of a science dominated by artificial intelligence.

Evaluación del Cambio en la Musculatura y Adiposidad y su Relación con la Recurrencia del Carcinoma de Cabeza y Cuello mediante PET/CT y MRI

This study investigates the impact of changes in body composition and follow-up imaging modalities on recurrence and prognosis in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The results indicate that an increase in the adiposity index post-radiotherapy is significantly associated with higher recurrence and mortality rates. Additionally, the combined evaluation of muscle and adipose status reveals that patients with muscle loss and adipose gain have the lowest survival probabilities and the highest risk of recurrence. These findings underscore the importance of monitoring adiposity and muscle status, as well as the strategic use of advanced imaging techniques such as PET/CT, MRI, and CT. However, this work represents a preliminary analysis, and further detailed studies are necessary to confirm these results and develop more effective strategies.

Imágenes de Resonancia Magnética con Contraste en el Cáncer de Mama

In this study, 529 variables extracted from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) of 922 breast cancer patients have been evaluated, focusing on distinguishing between recurrent and non-recurrent cases, as well as those with and without metastasis. Special emphasis is placed on the differences among invasive breast cancer subtypes (Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2 positive, and TNBC). The accurate identification of the subtype is crucial as it impacts both treatment and prognosis. The analysis is based on the dataset from Saha et al., highlighting key factors for predicting recurrences and metastases, providing valuable information for proper monitoring and the selection of effective treatments.

Information and long term memory in calcium signals

Unicellular organisms are open metabolic systems that need to process information about their external environment in order to survive. In most types of tissues and organisms, cells use calcium signaling to carry information from the extracellular side of the plasma membrane to the different metabolic targets of their internal medium. This information might be encoded in the amplitude, frequency, duration, waveform or timing of the calcium oscillations. Thus, specific information coming from extracellular stimuli can be encoded in the calcium signal and decoded again later in different locations within the cell. Despite its cellular importance, little is known about the quantitative informative properties of the calcium concentration dynamics inside the cell. In order to understand some of these informational properties, we have studied experimental Ca2+ series of Xenopus laevis oocytes under different external pH stimulus. The data has been analyzed by means of information-theoretic approaches such as Conditional Entropy, Information Retention, and other non-linear dynamics tools such as the power spectra, the Largest Lyapunov exponent and the bridge detrended Scaled Window Variance analysis. We have quantified the biomolecular information flows of the experimental data in bits, and essential aspects of the information contained in the experimental calcium fluxes have been exhaustively analyzed. Our main result shows that inside all the studied intracellular Ca2+ flows a highly organized informational structure emerge, which exhibit deterministic chaotic behavior, long term memory and complex oscillations of the uncertainty reduction based on past values. The understanding of the informational properties of calcium signals is one of the key elements to elucidate the physiological functional coupling of the cell and the integrative dynamics of cellular life.
