Distributed variational quantum computing with deterministic entanglement tuning

Distributed quantum computing offers a scalable route to quantum information processing by entangling spatially separated processors. Although gate teleportation enables universal computation across distributed nodes, it requires repeated consumption of high-fidelity Bell pairs, ancillary qubits, and real-time feedforward, which imposes significant overhead and reduces fidelity. However, many variational quantum algorithms do not demand full universality; rather, they rely on sufficient expressibility to explore solution spaces effectively. Building on this, we propose a distributed variational quantum computing protocol based on deterministic entanglement tuning. In contrast to probabilistic filtering, our approach deterministically modulates pre-shared entanglement using only local operations and classical communication. We validate the protocol through a proof-of-principle experiment by estimating ground-state energies of the He-H$^+$ molecule and the Schwinger model, showing that diverse entanglement levels can be engineered to match problem-specific requirements. Our results suggest a practical alternative for near-term distributed quantum applications.

Contextuality of quantum non-demolition measurement via state discrimination

Quantum non-demolition measurements facilitate various quantum technologies, including quantum communication. Notably, their operational structure can be replicated by a classical model--referred to as a noncontextual model--making it crucial to identify which features prevents such models from reproducing the corresponding quantum measurements. In this work, we theoretically demonstrate contextual features inherent in the structure of quantum non-demolition measurements. These features not only reveal the nonclassicality of unambiguous state discrimination, but also extend to sequential unambiguous discrimination and probabilistic quantum cloning, both of which involve post-measurement states. Moreover, our analysis extends to noisy scenarios, highlighting its potential relevance for practical implementations. We believe that our results broaden the scope of observing nonclassicality in quantum systems and ultimately contribute to the advancement of various quantum technologies.

Robust and bright polarization-entangled photon sources exploiting non-critical phase matching without periodic poling

Entangled photon sources are essential for quantum information applications, including quantum computation, quantum communication, and quantum metrology. Periodically poled (PP) crystals are commonly used to generate bright photon sources through quasi-phase matching. However, fabricating uniform micron-scale periodic structures poses significant technical difficulties, typically limiting the crystal thickness to less than a millimeter. Here, we adopt non-critical phase matching to produce a robust and bright polarization-entangled photon source based on a Sagnac interferometer. This method is tolerant of variations in pump incidence angles and temperature, and theoretically offers about a 2.5-fold brightness enhancement compared to quasi-phase matching. Additionally, the absence of periodic poling allows for a larger crystal cross-section. Using a bulk KTP crystal without a PP structure, we experimentally produce the four Bell states with a brightness of 25.1 kHz/mW, achieving purity, concurrence, and fidelity values close to 0.99. We believe our scheme will serve as a key building block for scalable and practical photonic quantum information applications.

Implementation of a 3 x 3 directionally-unbiased linear optical multiport

Linear optical multiports are widely used in photonic quantum information processing. Naturally, these devices are directionally-biased since photons always propagate from the input ports toward the output ports. Recently, the concept of directionally-unbiased linear optical multiports was proposed. These directionally-unbiased multiports allow photons to propagate along a reverse direction, which can greatly reduce the number of required linear optical elements for complicated linear optical quantum networks. Here, we report an experimental demonstration of a 3 x 3 directionally-unbiased linear optical fiber multiport using an optical tritter and mirrors. Compared to the previous demonstration using bulk optical elements which works only with light sources with a long coherence length, our experimental directionally-unbiased 3 x 3 optical multiport does not require a long coherence length since it provides negligible optical path length differences among all possible optical trajectories. It can be a useful building block for implementing large-scale quantum walks on complex graph networks.

Applying GPGPU to Recurrent Neural Network Language Model based Fast Network Search in the Real-Time LVCSR

Recurrent Neural Network Language Models (RNNLMs) have started to be used in various fields of speech recognition due to their outstanding performance. However, the high computational complexity of RNNLMs has been a hurdle in applying the RNNLM to a real-time Large Vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition (LVCSR). In order to accelerate the speed of RNNLM-based network searches during decoding, we apply the General Purpose Graphic Processing Units (GPGPUs). This paper proposes a novel method of applying GPGPUs to RNNLM-based graph traversals. We have achieved our goal by reducing redundant computations on CPUs and amount of transfer between GPGPUs and CPUs. The proposed approach was evaluated on both WSJ corpus and in-house data. Experiments shows that the proposed approach achieves the real-time speed in various circumstances while maintaining the Word Error Rate (WER) to be relatively 10% lower than that of n-gram models.

Higher-order Landau-Devonshire theory for BaTiO3

The higher-order Landau-Devonshire theory for BaTiO3 is proposed. The structural stabilities of some Landau potentials proposed for the phenomenology of BaTiO3 until now are discussed in the framework of the singularity theory. We confirm that the structurally stable Landau potential has to contain at least all the invariants up to eighth power when the three parameters vary in the experiment. We propose the tenth order Landau potential for adequate description of the various experimental data for BaTiO3 crystal. We show that the results of the phenomenology based on the tenth potential are in good agreement with experimental data on the spontaneous polarization, dielectric constants, dielectric susceptibility and piezoelectric coefficients versus the temperature and the electric field.
