Variational symmetries of Lagrangian systems with higher-order derivatives

We discuss an elementary derivation of variational symmetries and corresponding integrals of motion for the Lagrangian systems depending on acceleration. Providing several examples, we make the manuscript accessible to a wide range of readers with interest in higher-order Lagrangians and symmetries. The discussed technique is also applicable to the Lagrangian systems with higher-order derivatives.

Bailey pairs for the q-hypergeometric integral pentagon identity

In this work, we construct a new Bailey pairs for the integral pentagon identity in terms of q-hypergeometric functions. The pentagon identity considered here represents equality of the partition functions of a certain three-dimensional supersymmetric dual theories. It can be also interpreted as the star-triangle relation for the Ising-type integrable lattice model.

Integrability from supersymmetric duality: a short review

Integrable models of statistical mechanics play a prominent role in modern mathematical physics, especially in conformal field theory, knot theory, combinatorics, topology, etc. In this brief review, we discuss a program of constructing integrable lattice spin models with the nearest neighbor interaction using methods inspired by the supersymmetric gauge theory computations, called gauge/YBE correspondence. After a brief introduction to the topic, we review some recent examples of this correspondence and the role of special functions and symmetries. Finally, we discuss future directions of research.

Gamma function solutions to the star-triangle equation

In the paper, we clarify some relations between solutions to the star-triangle equation via the gauge/YBE correspondence. We consider two solutions to the star-triangle relation in terms of Euler's gamma function. We derive these solutions from the reduction of certain basic and hyperbolic hypergeometric integral identities. These identities can be interpreted as equality of the supersymmetric partition functions of a specific three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric dual theories.

Pentagon identities arising in supersymmetric gauge theory computations

The partition functions of three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories on different manifolds can be expressed as q-hypergeometric integrals. By comparing the partition functions of three-dimensional mirror dual theories, one finds complicated integral identities. In some cases, these identities can be written in the form of pentagon relations. Such identities often have an interpretation as the Pachner's 3-2 move for triangulated manifolds via the so-called 3d-3d correspondence. From the physics perspective, another important application of pentagon identities is that they may be used to construct new solutions to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation.

Integrable lattice spin models from supersymmetric dualities

Recently, there has been observed an interesting correspondence between supersymmetric quiver gauge theories with four supercharges and integrable lattice models of statistical mechanics such that the two-dimensional spin lattice is the quiver diagram, the partition function of the lattice model is the partition function of the gauge theory and the Yang-Baxter equation expresses the identity of partition functions for dual pairs. This correspondence is a powerful tool which enables us to generate new integrable models. The aim of the present paper is to give a short account on a progress in integrable lattice models which has been made due to the relationship with supersymmetric gauge theories.

Integrability properties of Motzkin polynomials

We consider a Hamiltonian system which has its origin in a generalization of exact renormalization group flow of matrix scalar field theory and describes a non-linear generalization of the shock-wave equation that is known to be integrable. Analyzing conserved currents of the system the letter shows, that these follow a nice pattern governed by coefficients of Motzkin polynomials, where each integral of motion corresponds to a path on a unit lattice.

Comments on the multi-spin solution to the Yang-Baxter equation and basic hypergeometric sum/integral identity

We present a multi-spin solution to the Yang-Baxter equation. The solution corresponds to the integrable lattice spin model of statistical mechanics with positive Boltzmann weights and parameterized in terms of the basic hypergeometric functions. We obtain this solution from a non-trivial basic hypergeometric sum-integral identity which originates from the equality of supersymmetric indices for certain three-dimensional N=2 Seiberg dual theories.

Remark on the Dunne-Unsal relation in exact semi-classics

Recently, it is realized that non-perturbative instanton effects can be generated to all orders by perturbation theory around a degenerate minima via Dunne-Unsal relation in several quantum mechanical systems. In this work we verify the Dunne-Unsal relation for resonance energy levels of one-dimensional polynomial anharmonic oscillators. We show that the relation is applicable to cubic and quartic anharmonic oscillators which are genus one potentials. However for higher order (higher genus) anharmonic potentials the relation is not satisfied and is subject to a certain extension.

A resurgence analysis for cubic and quartic anharmonic potentials

In this work we explicitly show resurgence relations between perturbative and one instanton sectors of the resonance energy levels for cubic and quartic anharmonic potentials in one-dimensional quantum mechanics. Both systems satisfy the Dunne-Unsal relation and hence we are able to derive one-instanton non-perturbative contributions with the fluctuation terms to the energy merely from the perturbative data. We confirm our results with previous results obtained by Zinn-Justin et al.

Basic hypergeometry of supersymmetric dualities

We introduce several new identities combining basic hypergeometric sums and integrals. Such identities appear in the context of superconformal index computations for three-dimensional supersymmetric dual theories. We give both analytic proofs and physical interpretations of the presented identities.

The star-triangle relation, lens partition function, and hypergeometric sum/integrals

The aim of the present paper is to consider the hyperbolic limit of an elliptic hypergeometric sum/integral identity, and associated lattice model of statistical mechanics previously obtained by the second author. The hyperbolic sum/integral identity obtained from this limit, has two important physical applications in the context of the so-called gauge/YBE correspondence. For statistical mechanics, this identity is equivalent to a new solution of the star-triangle relation form of the Yang-Baxter equation, that directly generalises the Faddeev-Volkov models to the case of discrete and continuous spin variables. On the gauge theory side, this identity represents the duality of lens ($S_b^3/\mathbb{Z}_r$) partition functions, for certain three-dimensional $\mathcal N = 2$ supersymmetric gauge theories.

Integral pentagon relations for 3d superconformal indices

The superconformal index of a three-dimensional supersymmetric field theory can be expressed in terms of basic hypergeometric integrals. By comparing the indices of dual theories, one can find new integral identities for basic hypergeometric integrals. Some of these integral identities have the form of the pentagon identity which can be interpreted as the 2-3 Pachner move for triangulated 3-manifolds.

A new pentagon identity for the tetrahedron index

Recently Kashaev, Luo and Vartanov, using the reduction from a four-dimensional superconformal index to a three-dimensional partition function, found a pentagon identity for a special combination of hyperbolic Gamma functions. Following their idea we have obtained a new pentagon identity for a certain combination of so-called tetrahedron indices arising from the equality of superconformal indices of dual three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric theories and give a mathematical proof of it.

Superconformal indices and partition functions for supersymmetric field theories

Recently there was a substantial progress in understanding of supersymmetric theories (in particular, their BPS spectrum) in space-times of different dimensions due to the exact computation of superconformal indices and partition functions using localization method. Here we discuss a connection of 4d superconformal indices and 3d partition functions using a particular example of supersymmetric theories with matter in antisymmetric representation.

Extended global symmetries for 4d N=1 SQCD theories

In arXiv:0811.1909 Spiridonov and Vartanov, using the superconformal index technique, found that 4-dimensional N=1 SQCD theory with SU(2) gauge group and four flavors has 72 dual representations. Recently in arXiv:1209.1404 the authors showed that these dual theories, when coupled to 5d hypermultiplets with specific boundary conditions have an extended E_7 global symmetry. In this work we find that for a reduced theory with 3 flavors the explicit SU(6) global symmetry is enhanced to an E_6 symmetry in the presence of 5d hypermultiplets. We also show connections between indices of different theories in 3 and 4 dimensions.

Anisotropic hydrodynamics, holography and the chiral magnetic effect

We discuss a possible dependence of the chiral magnetic effect (CME) on the elliptic flow coefficient v2. We first study this in a hydrodynamic model for a static anisotropic plasma with multiple anomalous U(1) currents. In the case of two charges, one axial and one vector, the CME formally appears as a first-order transport coefficient in the vector current. We compute this transport coefficient and show its dependence on v2. We also determine the CME-coefficient from first-order corrections to the dual AdS background using the fluid-gravity duality. For small anisotropies, we find numerical agreement with the hydrodynamic result.
