Value sharing and Stirling numbers

Let $f$ be an entire function and $L(f)$ a linear differential polynomial in $f$ with constant coefficients. Suppose that $f$, $f'$, and $L(f)$ share a meromorphic function $α(z)$ that is a small function with respect to $f$. A characterization of the possibilities that may arise was recently obtained by Lahiri. However, one case leaves open many possibilities. We show that this case has more structure than might have been expected, and that a more detailed study of this case involves, among other things, Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds. We prove that the function $α$ must satisfy a linear homogeneous differential equation with specific coefficients involving only three free parameters, and then $f$ can be obtained from each solution. Examples suggest that only rarely do single-valued solutions $α(z)$ exist, and even then they are not always small functions for $f$.

Exponential polynomials in the oscillation theory

Supposing that $A(z)$ is an exponential polynomial of the form $$ A(z)=H_0(z)+H_1(z)e^{ζ_1z^n}+\cdots +H_m(z)e^{ζ_mz^n}, $$ where $H_j$'s are entire and of order $<n$, it is demonstrated that the function $H_0(z)$ and the geometric location of the leading coefficients $ζ_1,\ldots,ζ_m$ play a key role in the oscillation of solutions of the differential equation $f''+A(z)f=0$. The key tools consist of value distribution properties of exponential polynomials, and elementary properties of the Phragmén-Lindelöf indicator function. In addition to results in the whole complex plane, results on sectorial oscillation are proved.

Tropical variants of some complex analysis results

Tropical Nevanlinna theory studies value distribution of continuous piecewise linear functions of a real variable. In this paper, we use the reasoning from tropical Nevanlinna theory to present tropical counterparts of some classical complex results related to Fermat type equations, Hayman conjecture and Bruck conjecture.

Tropical Nevanlinna theory and second main theorem

We present a version of the tropical Nevanlinna theory for real-valued, continuous, piecewise linear functions on the real line. In particular, a tropical version of the second main theorem is proved. Applications to some ultra-discrete equations are given.
