High Energy & High Luminosity $γγ$ Colliders

With the best of modern standard lasers, high-energy $γγ$ colliders from electron beams of E larger than 250 GeV are only possible at the expense of photon luminosity, i.e. 10 times lower than for photon colliders at c.m. energies below 0.5 TeV. For existing state-of-the art lasers, an optimistic upper energy limit for x=4.8 is an electron beam of less than 250 GeV. This Snowmass21 Contributed Paper shows how Free Electron Lasers (FEL) pave the way for High Energy & High Luminosity $γγ$ colliders. We present and assess a conceptual design study of a FEL with wavelength of 2.4 $μ$m and an x-factor in the range of 2 to 40, to maximize the luminosity of a $γγ$ collider as second interaction region of 0.5 TeV to 10 TeV c.m. $e^+e^-$ colliders.

Decoding Dark Matter at future $e^+ e^-$ colliders

We explore the potential of the $e^+ e^-$ colliders to discover dark matter and determine its properties such as mass and the spin. For this purpose we study spin zero and spin one-half cases of dark matter, $D$ which belongs to $SU(2)$ weak doublet and therefore has the charged doublet partner, $D^+$. For the case of scalar dark matter we chose Inert Doublet Model, while for the case of fermion dark matter we suggest the new minimal fermion dark matter model with only three parameters. We choose two benchmarks for the models under study which provide the correct amount of observed DM relic density and consistent with the current DM searches. We focus on the particular process $e^+ e^- \to D^+ D^- \to D D W^+ W^- \to DD(q \bar{q})(μ^\pmν)$ at 500 GeV ILC collider which gives rise to the "di-jet +$μ$ + missing $E_T$" signature and study it at the level of fast detector simulation, taking into account Bremsstrahlung and ISR effects. We have found that two kinematical observables -- the energy of the muon, $E_μ$, and the angular distribution of $W$-boson, reconstructed from di-jet, $\cosθ_{jj}$ are very powerful in determination of DM mass and spin, respectively. In particular we have demonstrated that in case of fermion DM, the masses can be measured with a few percent accuracy already at 500 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. At the same time, the scalar DM model which has about an order of magnitude lower signal, requires about factor of 40 higher luminosity to reach the same accuracy in the mass measurement. We have found that one can distinguish fermion and scalar DM scenarios with about 2 ab$^{-1}$ total integrated luminosity or less without using the information on the cross sections for benchmarks under study.

Photon Collider for energies 1-2 TeV

We discuss a photon collider based on the $e^+e^-$ \ linear collider with energies of $2E = 1÷2$ TeV in cms (ILC, CLIC, ...). Previously, this energy range was considered hopeless for the experiment in the foreseeable future. We discuss the realization of the TeV PLC based on modern lasers. A small modification of the laser-optical system prepared for the photon collider with energy of $E \approx 250$ GeV will be sufficient if the parameters are chosen optimally. The high-energy part of the photon spectrum does not depend on design details and is well separated from the low-energy part. That is a narrow band near the upper boundary, about 5\% wide. The high-energy integrated \ggam luminosity is about 1/5 and the maximum differential luminosity is about 1/4 of the corresponding values for the photon collider with $E \approx 250$ GeV.

High energy Photon Collider

We discuss a high-energy photon linear collider (HE PLC) based on the $e^+e^-$ linear collider with cms electron energy $2E = 1 ÷2$ TeV (JLC, CLIC,...). This energy region was previously considered hopeless for experiment. On the contrary, the present study leads to a rather optimistic conclusions. We compare properties of HE PLC with those of the usually discussed {\it standard PLC} with $ E\approx 250$ GeV. We show that at the optimal choice of laser the high-energy \ggam luminosity integral is about 1/5, and the maximum luminosity is about 1/4 from similar values for the standard PLC. For this choice, the laser flash energy and laser-optical system should be approximately the same as those prepared for the standard PLC. The photon spectrum of HE PLC is much more monochromatic than that in the standard PLC, it is concentrated near the high-energy limit with an energy spread of about 5\%. It will be well separated from the low energy part.

Two photon physics. Personal recollection

The term two--photon processes is used for the reactions in which some system of particles is produced in collision of two photons, either real or virtual. In the study of these processes our main goal was to suggest approach, allowing to extract from the data information on proper two--photon process separating it from mechanism which responsible for the production of photons. Here I present my view for history of two--photon physics. I don't try to give complete review, concentrating mainly on works of our team (which cover essential part of the topic) and some colleagues. My citation is strongly incomplete. I cite here only papers which were essential in our understanding of the problems. The choice of presented details is the result of my discussions with Gleb Kotkin and Valery Serbo. 1. Prehistory. 2. Two photon processes at e^+e^- colliders. 3. Photon colliders. 4. Notes on physical program.

Singularities in the single lepton energy spectrum for precise measuring mass and spin of Dark Matter particles at the e^+e^- Linear Collider

We consider models in which stability of Dark Matter particles $D$ is ensured by the conservation of the new quantum number, called D-parity here. Our models contain also charged $D$-odd particle $D^\pm$. Here I propose the method for precision measuring masses and spin of $D$-particles via the study of energy distribution of single lepton ($e$ or $μ$) in the process $\epe\to D^+D^-\to DDW^+W^-$ with the observable states {\it dijet + lepton} ($μ$ or $e$) + {\it nothing}. To determine precisely masses of $D$ and $D^\pm$, it is sufficient to measure the singular points in the lepton energy distributions (upper edge and kinks or peak). After this, even a rough measuring of corresponding cross section allows to determine the spin of $D$ particles. This approach is free from the difficulties of a well-known methods of measuring the masses via the edges of the energy distribution of dijets, representing $W$, which obliged by inaccuracies in measuring the energies of individual jets.

Symmetries of Two Higgs Doublet Model and CP violation

We use the invariance of physical picture under a change of Lagrangian, the reparametrization invariance in the space of Lagrangians and its particular case -- the rephrasing invariance, for analysis of the two-Higgs-doublet extension of the SM. We found that some parameters of theory like tan beta are reparametrization dependent and therefore cannot be fundamental. We use the Z2-symmetry of the Lagrangian, which prevents a phi_1 <-> phi_2 transitions, and the different levels of its violation, soft and hard, to describe a physical content of the model. In general, the broken Z2-symmetry allows for a CP violation in the physical Higgs sector. We argue that the 2HDM with a soft breaking of Z2-symmetry is a natural model in the description of EWSB. To simplify an analysis we choose among different forms of Lagrangian describing the same physical reality a specific one, in which the vacuum expectation values of both Higgs fields are real. A possible CP violation in the Higgs sector is described by using a two-step procedure with the first step identical to a diagonalization of mass matrix for CP-even fields in the CP conserved case. We find very simple necessary and sufficient condition for a CP violation in the Higgs sector. We determine the range of parameters for which CP violation and Flavor Changing Neutral Current effects are naturally small, what corresponds to a small dimensionless mass parameter nu= Re m_{12}^2/(2v1v2). We discuss how for small nu some Higgs bosons can be heavy, with mass up to about 0.6 TeV, without violating of the unitarity constraints. We discuss main features of the large nu case, which corresponds for nu -> infty to a decoupling of heavy Higgs bosons.

Two-Higgs-Doublet Models with CP violation

We consider the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model and determine the range of parameters for which CP violation and Flavor Changing Neutral Current effects are naturally small. It corresponds to small values of the mass parameter m_{12}^2, describing soft (ϕ_1,ϕ_2) mixing in the potential. We discuss how, in this approach, some Higgs bosons can be heavy, with mass of the order of 1 TeV. The possibility that at the Tevatron, LHC and an e^+e^- Linear Collider, only one Higgs boson will be found, with properties indistinguishable from those in the Standard Model (SM), we define as the SM-like scenario. While this scenario can be obtained with large μ^2 \sim \Re m_{12}^2 parameter, in which case there is decoupling, we here discuss the opposite case of small μ^2, without decoupling.

The Study of Triple Gauge Boson Anomalous Interactions via Process eγ\to Wν. Leptonic W Decay Mode

We study possibilities to measure the triple anomalous W-boson couplings to photon in the $eγ\to Wν$ process via its lepton decay channel (with the simplest signature). We found that in the study of the $W$ quadruple momentum $λ$ one can limit himself within a small region in phase space. A way to find this region is proposed. The obtained estimates for $λ$ at TESLA project are roughly twice better than anticipated for $e+e-$ mode. For $W$ anomalous magnetic momentum the discussed mode gives no improvements as compared $e+e-$ mode.

Standard-Model-like scenarios in the 2HDM and Photon Collider potential

After operations at the LHC and e^+e^- Linear Colliders it may be found that a Standard-Model-like scenario is realized. In this scenario no new particle will be discovered, except a single Higgs boson having partial widths or coupling constants with fundamental particles, whose squares are close, within anticipated experimental uncertainty, to those of the SM. Experiments at a Photon Collider can resolve whether the SM or e.g. the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model is realized in Nature. For the SM-like realizations of the 2HDM (II) we study the loop couplings of the Higgs boson with γγand Z γ, and also with gluons. The deviation of the two-photon width from its SM value is generally higher than the expected inaccuracy in the measurement of Γ_{γγ} at a Photon Collider. The deviation is sensitive to the parameters of the Higgs self interaction.

Resolving SM-like scenarios via Higgs boson production at a Photon Collider: I. 2HDM versus SM

We consider the possibility that after operations at the LHC and e^+e^- Linear Colliders a Higgs boson will be discovered, but no signal of New Physics will be found (Standard-Model-like scenario). This can occur in the Standard Model (SM) as well as in other models, including the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM), the MSSM, etc. Experiments at a Photon Collider can resolve these cases. In this paper we compare the SM and the 2HDM~(II). In the analysis we use as independent quantities the ratios, to the SM values, of couplings of the observed Higgs boson to gauge bosons, and to up and down-type quarks (basic couplings). We derive a relation between these ratios within the 2HDM~(II), a pattern relation. With the aid of this relation, different possible realizations of an SM-like scenario are found. For these realizations, we calculate the loop couplings of the Higgs boson with γγand Z γ, and also with gluons, taking into account the expected accuracy in the measurements of the basic couplings. The obtained deviation of the two-photon width from its SM value is generally higher than the expected inaccuracy in the measurement of Γ_{γγ} at a Photon Collider. The result is sensitive to the parameters of the Higgs self interaction.

Distinguishing Higgs models at photon colliders

We consider the two effective couplings hZγand hγγinvolving a neutral scalar Higgs boson with a mass around 100 GeV in the Standard Model, in the Two Higgs Doublet Model, and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The couplings can be tested at Photon Colliders, and used to distinguish these models.

Higgs boson. Complete discovery and the windiw to a New Physics

1. We discuss the opportunities of complete Higgs boson discovery at different colliders. Main conclusion here is: Photon collider is the best for this goal. 2. We discuss how to use the Higgs boson (after its discovery) as the window to a New Physics. Main conclusion here is: Higgs boson production in gluon and photon fusion together with production in process $eγ\to eH$ provides very good window to a New Physics with the scale $Λ\gg M_H$.

Initial Particle Instability in Muon Collisions

I consider the process $μ^+μ^-\to e\barνW^+$ in the case when the effective mass of the $(e\barν)$ system than the muon mass. In this case the momentum transferred from the initial muon to the $e\barν$ system (the virtual neutrino momentum) can be both time--like and space--like. Since the path of integration over $k^2$ goes through a pole at $k^2=0$, it gives a divergent cross section. In the ideal case of large enough beams this divergence disappears if the finite width $Γ$ of the initial muon is taken into account. The obtained cross section corresponds to the flux of equivalent neutrino, which coincides with that of muon (with some energy distribution). In practice, the effect of final size of the muon beam reduces this cross section very strong, and the effect is hardly observable.

The $e^+e^-$ pair production at $μ^+μ^-$ collider

The main source of \epe pair at $μ^+μ^-$ collider is incoherent process $μ^+μ^-\to μ^+μ^-\epe$ with cross section about 10 mb (at muon energy 2 TeV). The corresponding distributions are discussed briefly. These pairs give the dangerous background. The coherent production of \epe pairs here is negligibly small.
