Interface magnetic coupling and magnetization dynamic of La$_{2/3}$Sr$_{1/3}$MnO$_3$ single layer and (La$_{2/3}$Sr$_{1/3}$MnO$_3$/SrRuO$_3$)$_n$ (n = 1, 5) superlattice on SrTiO$_3$(001) substrate

In this work, we investigate the structural, magnetic, and microwave magnetic dynamics of multilayered \([{\rm LSMO}/{\rm SRO}]_n\) heterostructures \((n = 1 \text{ and } 5)\) grown on SrTiO\(_3\) (001) substrates. X-ray diffraction confirms high crystallinity and atomically sharp interfaces. Magnetic measurements reveal strong interfacial magnetic coupling, with a distinct two-step magnetization switching observed in the \(n = 5\) heterostructure, while this feature is significantly suppressed in the \(n = 1\) structure. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) analysis shows a broad linewidth, pronounced positive magnetic anisotropy, and Gilbert damping on the order of \(10^{-2}\), with damping decreasing as the number of multilayer repetitions increases. These observations demonstrate that Ru--Mn exchange coupling at the interface critically governs the magnetic response and dynamic behavior of the system. The tunable switching and damping properties highlight such oxide heterointerfaces as promising platforms for exploring spin textures, magnetic domain behavior, and room-temperature spintronic applications.

Simultaneous MOKE imaging and measurement of magneto-resistance with vector magnet: a low noise customized setup for low field magnetic devices and thin films characterization

Here we report a custom design setup for the simultaneous measurement of magneto-resistance and MOKE imaging in longitudinal configuration for characterization of magnetic thin-films and sensors. The setup is designed so as to cope with a small signal to noise ratio of initial images and to allow sensitive magnetoresistance (MR) measurement at low field. An improved differential algorithm is used to get a good enough contrast of the magnetic images and get rid of beam illumination or small camera gain fluctuations. Home made power supply and pre-amplifier stage were designed so as to reduce the low frequency noise as well as the thermal electrical noise. A vector magnet is used to produce rotational magnetic field so as to study the magnetic anisotropy and calculate the anisotropic constants in magnetic thin films. Magnetoresistive sensors patterned on epitaxial La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_3$ (LSMO) thin film have been characterized with this setup. The Images of the magnetization reversal process as well as the local magnetization loops deduced from these images provided evidence of a magnetic uniaxial anisotropy induced by the vicinal substrate. The magnetic anistropic constant of the films was then inferred from the MR measurements.

Space Charge Doping Induced Band Modulation in Mono- and Bi-layer Graphene: a nano-ARPES study

Controlled modulation of electronic band structure in two-dimensional (2D) materials via doping is crucial for devices fabrication. For instance doped graphene has been envisaged for various applications like sensors, super-capacitors, transistors, p-n junctions, photo-detectors, etc. Many different techniques have been developed to achieve desired doping in 2D materials, like chemical doping, electrostatic doping, substrate doping, etc. Here, we have combined space charge doping with space and angle resolved photoemission (nano-ARPES), in order to directly observe the Fermi level modulation on micron-sized flakes of monolayer and bilayer graphene. The doping level can be tuned in a controlled manner, which allows us to directly observe the Fermi level tuning. In our experiment we successfully doped the graphene with p- and n-type carriers (holes/electrons) which are directly observed through band shift in ARPES measurements. The observed band shift is $\sim$250 meV for bilayer and $\sim$500 meV for monolayer graphene. The results from our experiment promote the space charge doping technique and nano-ARPES into other materials such as 2D semiconductors and superconductors, in order to directly observe the physical phenomena such as band gap transition and phase transition as function of carrier doping.

Spin-phonon coupling and dielectric spectroscopy in nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ double perovskite manganite

In this paper, we present the spin-phonon coupling and dielectric response of nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ employing Raman and dielectric spectroscopic study. Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ is a manganite compound , it undergoes a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic (PM-FM) phase transition around $T_c$ $\sim$172 K. Temperature-dependent Raman scattering experiment is carried out across $T_c$ to study the spin-phonon behavior in this material. The results from Raman study reveal an obvious softening of the phonon mode involving stretching vibrations of the (Co/Mn)O$_6$ octahedra in ferromagnetic temperature regions, indicating a close correlation between magnetism and lattice in Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ and conform the spin phonon coupling. Further, we have carried out detailed study on dielectric response, impedance spectroscopy, electric modulus and AC conductivity of Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ ceramics in the temperature range of 20 K - 300 K and frequency range of 1kHz - 5.5MHz. We found Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ shows strong frequency dependence with large dispersion and large dielectric constant. It is found that thermally activated relaxation mechanism is involve and material is deviated from Debye's model which is confirmed by Nyquist plot and complex modules behavior.

Magnetism and electrical transport in Y-doped layered iridate Sr$_2$IrO$_4$

Here, we report an investigation of structural, magnetic and electronic properties in Y-doped layered iridate (Sr$_{1-x}$Y$_x$)$_2$IrO$_4$ ($x$ $\leq$ 0.1). The parent Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is a well-studied spin-orbit coupling (SOC) induced insulator with an antiferromagnetic ground state. The Y-doping here equivalently acts for electron doping without altering the vital parameters such as, SOC and electron correlation. Experimental results show a minute change in structural parameters and an equivalent charge conversion from Ir$^{4+}$ to Ir$^{3+}$. Unlike similarly other electron-doped system, the low temperature magnetic and electronic state in present series is minimally influenced. The charge conduction mechanism follows 2-dimensional hopping model in whole series. Magnetoresistance (MR) data show an interesting sign change with both temperature and magnetic field. The positive MR both at low temperature follows weak antilocalization behavior where the sign change in MR is believed to be caused by an interplay between SOC and magnetic moment.

Physical Properties of Nano-crystalline Sm$_2$CoMnO$_6$: structure, magnetism, spin-phonon coupling and dielectric study

Structural, magnetic, and dielectric properties of Sm$_2$CoMnO$_6$ have been studied. X-ray diffraction and Rietveld analysis show that the sample crystallizes in the monoclinic structure with \textit{P2$_1$/n} space group. Magnetic study shows that the sample undergoes a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition around $T_c$ $\sim$148 K and a low-temperature ordering of Sm$^{3+}$ moments. Temperature-dependent Raman study shows spin-phonon coupling present in this material. Dielectric response of Sm$_2$CoMnO$_6$ shows strong frequency dependence with large dispersion and large dielectric constant. Deviated from ideal Debye's model is found in impedance spectroscopy. Further, the activation energy obtained from tangent loss and complex impedance suggests that the relaxation process is due to electron hopping. AC conductivity has been studied to understand the conduction mechanism. The detailed analysis of AC conductivity shows that quantum mechanical tunneling of charges is involved in the conduction mechanism. The exponent obtained from AC conductivity measurements confirms the non-Debye's nature of Sm$_2$CoMnO$_6$.

Suppression of magnetic phase transition at high magnetic field and non-Debye's nature of nano-crystalline Gd$_2$CoMnO$_6$: a detail study of physical properties

Structural, magnetization, phonon behavior, and dielectric response of nano-crystalline Gd$_2$CoMnO$_6$ have been presented in this paper. The study shows that the material crystallizes in $\textit{P2$_1$/n}$ phase group of the monoclinic crystal structure. XPS measurement shows Co$^{2+}$ and Mn$^{4+}$ oxidation states are present in the sample. Magnetization study reveals that the sample undergoes a ferromagnetic ordering of Co$^{2+}$ and Mn$^{4+}$ magnetic ions around $T_c$ $\sim$132 K. However we have seen that with the application of external magnetic field the phase transition is largely suppressed. Raman study reveals the presence spin-phonon coupling in Gd$_2$CoMnO$_6$. Dielectric study reveals that the sample shows large dielectric constant and strong dispersion in mid frequency range. The dielectric loss shows there are two relaxation processes present in the material with different relaxation time and which are driven by thermally activated relaxation mechanics. Further, the Nyquist plot and AC conductivity study show that this sample is non-Debye's in nature.

Structure, magnetic and dielectric properties in nano-crystalline Yb$_2$CoMnO$_6$

Structural, magnetic and dielectric properties have been studied for Yb$_2$CoMnO$_6$. Nano-crystalline sample of Yb$_2$CoMnO$_6$ synthesized by sol-gel method and structural analysis shows that the sample crystallizes in monoclinic crystal structure with \textit{P2$_1$/n} phase group. To understand the charge state of Co, Mn and Yb we have performed the XPS study. Magnetic study shows that the sample undergoes a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition around $T_c$ $\sim$56 K and an additional magnetic ordering at a lower temperature around 14 K due to ordering of Yb$^{3+}$ magnetic ions. Temperature dependent Raman study reveals that spin-phonon interaction is present in this material. Further, we have studied the dielectric properties of this material. We observed that the material shows a relaxation behavior that obeys the thermally activated relaxation mechanism. Impedance spectroscopy reveals that the material shows non-Debye's behavior. AC conductivity study is performed to understand the conduction mechanics which involve the quantum mechanical tunneling phenomenon.

Site dilution and charge disorder effect on physical properties in SrRu$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$O$_3$

Here, we report an evolution of structural, magnetic and transport behavior in doped SrRu$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$O$_3$ ($x$ $\le$ 0.2). The nonmagnetic dopant Ga$^{3+}$ (3$d^{10}$) not only acts for magnetic site dilution in SrRuO$_3$ but also it modifies the Ru charge state and electronic density. Our studies show that Ga$^{3+}$ substitution does not affect the original orthorhombic-\textit{Pbnm} structure of SrRuO$_3$ which is due to its matching ionic radii with Ru$^{4+}$. However, Ga$^{3+}$ has a substantial effect on the magnetic behavior of SrRuO$_3$ where it decreases both magnetic moment as well as magnetic transition temperature $T_c$. Further, this dilution induces Griffiths phase behavior across $T_c$ and cluster-glass behavior at low temperature with higher concentration of doping. The magnetic critical exponent $β$ increases with $x$ due to this site dilution effect. The Ga$^{3+}$ induces an insulating state in SrRuO$_3$ with $x$ $>$ 0.05. The charge transport in paramagnetic as well as in insulating state of samples can be well described with Mott's modified variable-range-hopping model. The metallic charge transport just below $T_c$ in SrRuO$_3$ obeys Fermi liquid behavior which, however breaks down at low temperature. We further find a correlation between field dependent magnetoresistance and magnetization through power-law behavior over the series.

Physical properties in nano-crystalline Ho$_2$CoMnO$_6$

3$d$ based double perovskite materials have received much attention in recent years due to their exotic magnetic structure and magneto-electric coupling. In this work we have prepared and studied the nano-crystalline sample of Ho$_2$CoMnO$_6$. Structural, magnetic, Raman and dielectric properties have been studied in detail. The structural analysis shows that the sample crystallize in monoclanic crystal structure with $\textit{P2$_1$/n}$ phase group. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy have been employed to confirms the charge state of cations presents in the material. Magnetic study shows that the sample undergoes a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition around $T_c$ $\sim$85 K. The isothermal magnetization measurements shows hysteresis curve hence confirm ferromagnetic behavior at low temperature. Temperature dependent Raman study reveals that there is spin phonon coupling in the sample marked by deviation in phonon mode from anharmonic behavior. Dielectric response of Ho$_2$CoMnO$_6$ shows the large dispersion and large dielectric constant. Impedance spectroscopy and electrical modulus study reveal that system shows deviation from ideal Debye model. AC conductivity have been studied as a function of both temperature and frequency. We found that the conduction mechanism is obeyed by Jonscher's model. The exponent factor $n$ is suggest that the material deviates from ideal Debye model.

Insight into the magnetic behavior of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$:A spontaneous magnetization study

Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is a weak ferromagnet where the spin arrangement is canted anti-ferromagnetic (AF). Moreover, the spin-structure coupling plays and important role in magnetic behavior of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$. In this concern the magnetization under zero applied field i.e. spontaneous magnetization would be interesting to study and would give insight into the novel magnetic behavior of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$. Sophisticated techniques like neutron diffraction, $μ$ \textit{SR} etc has been used to understand the magnetic behavior of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ under zero applied field. To understand the magnetic behavior we have performed detail field and temperature dependent magnetization study, the measured field and temperature dependent magnetic data is analyzed rigorously. We have attempted the understand the temperature dependance of spontaneous magnetization, remanent magnetization and coercive force. We observe that the spontaneous magnetization extracted from Arrott plot shows that the Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is not an ideal ferromagnet. The temperature dependent coercive field is found to follows Guant's model of strong domain wall pinning. Our investigation explicit the temperature dependence of various magnetic properties shows the magnetic transitions from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase with $T_c$ around 225 K and a low temperature evolution of magnetic magnetic moment around $T_M$ $\sim$90 K.

Critical behavior and magnetocaloric effect in ferromagnetic nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$

To understand the nature of magnetic phase transition in nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$, in present study we have investigated the critical behavior and magnetocaloric effect. To estimate the critical exponents, various methods have been adopted like; the modified Arrott plots (MAP), the Kouvel-Fisher method (KF) and the critical isotherm analysis. This material shows a second order type a paramagnetic (PM) to ferromagnetic (FM) phase transition around 160 K. The critical exponents obtained from modified Arrott plots are $β$ = 0.531, $γ$ = 0.935 and $T_c$ = 160 K. Kouvel-Fisher method gives the exponents as $β$ = 0.533$\pm$0.001 with $T_c$ = 160.72$\pm$0.03 K and $γ$ = 0.932$\pm$0.003 with $T_c$ = 160.15$\pm$0.05 K. The third exponent $δ$ = 2.763$\pm$0.005 obtained from critical isothermal is in agreement with Wisdom scaling rule. The estimated critical exponents do not exactly match with any established universality class, however, the deduced exponent values suggest that spin interaction in the present material is close to mean-field model which suggests the existence of long-range ferromagnetic order in nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$. The reliability of critical exponents is checked by universal scaling hypothesis on magnetic data across T$_c$. We have calculated the magnetic entropy change from magnetic data and found maximum value of -$Δ$S = 2.05 (J kg$^{-1}$ K$^{-1}$) for 50 kOe at 180 K. Moreover, field dependent change in magnetic entropy obeys scaling and also indicates that the magnetic interaction is close to mean-field type.

Magnetic behavior, Griffiths phase and magneto-transport study in 3$d$ based nano-crystalline double perovskite Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$

Double perovskite (DP) oxide material receive extensive research interest due to exciting physical properties with potential technological application. 3$d$ based DP oxides are promising for exciting physics like magnetodielectric, ferroelectric, Griffith phase etc., specially Co/Mn DPs are gaining much research interest. In this paper we present the study of magnetic phase and transport properties in nano-crystalline Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ a 3$d$ based double perovskite compound. This material shows a paramagnetic (PM) to ferromagnetic (FM) phase transition below 173 K marked by a rapid increase in magnetic moment due to spin ordering. We found divergence in inverse magnetic susceptibility ($χ$$^{-1}$) from Curie weiss behavior around 206 K which indicates the evolution of Griffiths phase before actual PM-FM transition. We found that the Griffiths phase suppressed with increasing applied magnetic filed. For the understanding of charge transport in this material we have measured temperature dependent electrical resistivity. Pr$_2$CoMnO$_6$ is a strong insulator where resistivity increase abruptly below magnetic phase transition. To understand the effect of magnetic field on transport behavior we have also measured the magnetoresistance (MR) at different temperatures. Sample shows the negative MR with maximum value $\sim$22 $\%$ under applied magnetic field of 50 kOe at 125 K. MR follows quadratic field dependency above $T_c$ however below $T_c$ the MR shows deviation from this field dependency at low field.

Critical behavior in itinerant ferromagnet SrRu$_{1-x}$Ti$_x$O$_3$

SrRuO$_3$ presents a rare example of ferromagnetism among the 4$d$ based oxides. While the nature of magnetic state in SrRuO$_3$ is mostly believed to be of itinerant type, recent studies suggest a coexistence of both itinerant and localized model of magnetism in this material. Here, we have investigated the evolution of magnetic state in doped SrRu$_{1-x}$Ti$_x$O$_3$ through studying the critical behavior using standard techniques such as, modified Arrott plot, Kouvel-Fisher plot and critical isotherm analysis across the magnetic transition temperature $T_c$. The substitution of nonmagnetic Ti$^{4+}$ (3$d^{0}$) for Ru$^{4+}$ (4$d^4$) would simply dilute the magnetic system apart from modifying the electron correlation effect and the density of states at Fermi level. Surprisingly, $T_c$ does not change with $x$. Moreover, our analysis show the exponent $β$ related to spontaneous magnetization increases while the exponents $γ$ and $δ$ related to initial inverse susceptibility and critical magnetization, respectively decrease with Ti substitution. The estimated exponents do not match with any established theoretical models for universality classes, however, the exponent obey the Widom relation and the scaling behavior. Interestingly, this particular evolution of exponents in present series has similarity with that in isoelectronic doped Sr$_{1-x}$Ca$_x$RuO$_3$. We believe that site dilution by Ti leads to formation magnetic clusters which causes this specific changes in critical exponents.

Effect of Cu$^{2+}$ substitution in Spin-Orbit Coupled Sr$_2$Ir$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$O$_4$: Structure, magnetism and electronic properties

Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is an extensively studied spin-orbit coupling induced insulator with antiferromagnetic ground state. The delicate balance between competing energy scales plays crucial role for its low temperature phase, and the route of chemical substitution has often been used to tune these different energy scales. Here, we report an evolution of structural, magnetic and electronic properties in doped Sr$_2$Ir$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$O$_4$ ($x$ $\leq$ 0.2). The substitution of Cu$^{2+}$ (3$d^9$) for Ir$^{4+}$ (5$d^5$) acts for electron doping, though it tunes the related parameters such as, spin-orbit coupling, electron correlation and Ir charge state. Moreover, both Ir$^{4+}$ and Cu$^{2+}$ has single unpaired spin though it occupies different $d$-orbitals. With Cu substitution, system retains its original structural symmetry but the structural parameters show systematic changes. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy measurements show Ir$^{4+}$ equivalently converts to Ir$^{5+}$ and a significant enhancement in the density of states has been observed at the Fermi level due to the contribution from the Cu 3$d$ orbitals, which supports the observed decrease in the resistivity with Cu substitution. While the long-range magnetic ordering is much weakened and the highest doped sample shows almost paramagnetic-like behavior the overall system remains insulator. Analysis of resistivity data shows mode of charge conduction in whole series follows 2-dimensional variable-range-hopping model but the range of validity varies with temperature. Whole series of samples exhibit negative magnetoresistance at low temperature which is considered to be a signature of weak localization effect in spin-orbit coupled system, and its evolution with Cu appears to follow the variation of resistivity with $x$.

Insulating phase in Sr$_2$IrO$_4$: An investigation using critical analysis and magnetocaloric effect

The nature of insulating phase in 5$d$ based Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is quite debated as the theoretical as well as experimental investigations have put forward evidences in favor of both magnetically driven Slater-type and interaction driven Mott-type insulator. To understand this insulating behavior, we have investigated the nature of magnetic state in Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ through studying critical exponents, low temperature thermal demagnetization and magnetocaloric effect. The estimated critical exponents do not exactly match with any universality class, however, the values obey the scaling behavior. The exponent values suggest that spin interaction in present material is close to mean-field model. The analysis of low temperature thermal demagnetization data, however, shows dual presence of localized- and itinerant-type of magnetic interaction. Moreover, field dependent change in magnetic entropy indicates magnetic interaction is close to mean-field type. While this material shows an insulating behavior across the magnetic transition, yet a distinct change in slope in resistivity is observed around $T_c$. We infer that though the insulating phase in Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ more close to be Slater-type but the simultaneous presence of both Slater- and Mott-type is the likely scenario for this material.

Temperature evolution of magnetic and transport behavior in 5\textit{d} Mott insulator Sr$_2$IrO$_4$: Significance of magneto-structural coupling

We have investigated the temperature evolution of magnetism and its interrelation with structural parameters in perovskite-based layered compound Sr$_2$IrO$_4$, which is believed to be a $J_{eff}$ = 1/2 Mott insulator. The structural distortion plays an important role in this material which induces a weak ferromagnetism in otherwise antiferromagnetically ordered magnetic state with transition temperature around 240 K. Interestingly, at low temperature below around 100 K, a change in magnetic moment has been observed. Temperature dependent x-ray diffraction measurements show sudden changes in structural parameters around 100 K are responsible for this. Resistivity measurements show insulating behavior throughout the temperature range across the magnetic phase transition. The electronic transport can be described with Mott's two-dimensional variable range hopping (VRH) mechanism, however, three different temperature ranges are found for VRH, which is a result of varying localization length with temperature. A negative magnetoresistance (MR) has been observed at all temperatures in contrast to positive behavior generally observed in strongly spin-orbit coupled materials. The quadratic field dependence of MR implies a relevance of a quantum interference effect.
