Non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds and holomorphic geometric structures

We study holomorphic geometric structures on non-Kähler compact complex manifolds with trivial canonical line bundle. For Vaisman Calabi-Yau manifolds we prove that all holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on them are locally homogeneous. Moreover, if the geometric structure is rigid, then the Vaisman manifold must be a Kodaira manifold. The proof uses a Beauville-Bogomolov type decomposition from [Is] together with a weak form of Bochner principle for Vaisman Calabi-Yau manifolds that we prove here. Other results show that a compact complex manifold with self-dual holomorphic tangent bundle bearing a rigid holomorphic geometric structure of affine type have infinite fundamental group. We prove the same result for compact complex manifolds with trivial canonical line bundle having semistable holomorphic tangent bundle, with respect to some Gauduchon metric. We exhibit (non-Kähler) compact complex simply connected manifolds with trivial canonical line bundle that admit non-closed holomorphic one-forms.

Positivity of Higgs Vector Bundles

In \cite{BCO25}, Bruzzo, Capasso and Otero extended the notion of ampleness of vector bundles to the more general context of Higgs bundles. But the ampleness of Higgs bundles did not coincide with the ampleness of vector bundles when the Higgs field is zero. We modify the definition of ample Higgs bundles that results in removal of this discrepancy. Invoking this definition, we study various properties of Higgs ample vector bundles. In particular, we prove a Barton-Kleimann type criterion to characterize the Higgs ample vector bundles.

Theta functions for singular curves

Let $X$ be an irreducible singular Riemann surface, with desingularisation $\widetilde X$. The generalised Jacobian $J(X)$ of $X$ fibers over the Jacobian $J(\widetilde{X})$ of $\widetilde X$, and there is an Abel map $A$ of $\widetilde X$ to $J(X)$, lifting the Abel map to $J(\widetilde X)$. We build a theta function on a compactification of the generalised Jacobian $J(X)$ (giving a section of a suitable positive line bundle). The translation action on $J(X)$ then yields all line bundles of that degree, and the translates of the theta function, restricted to $A(\widetilde X)$, give a ``universal section'' of the line bundles of that degree over $X$. This extends to the singular case a classical result of Riemann.

Symplectic structure on the character varieties of Sasakian threefolds

Take a compact Sasakian threefold $M$ and consider the associated irreducible $\text{SL}(r,{\mathbb C})$-character variety ${\mathcal R} := \text{Hom}(π_1(M, x_0), \text{SL}(r, {\mathbb C}))^{ir}/ \text{SL}(r, {\mathbb C})$ of $M$, where $\text{Hom}(π_1(M, x_0), \text{SL}(r, {\mathbb C}))^{ir}$ is the space of irreducible homomorphisms. We first construct a natural algebraic $2$-form on $\mathcal R$. Then it is shown that this $2$--form is closed. Finally we show that the restriction of this $2$--form to $\text{Hom}(π_1(M, x_0), \text{SU}(r))^{ir}$ is symplectic.

Normal Functions, Even Theta Characteristics and the Theta Divisor

Let $[C]$ be a general point in the moduli space of curves $M_g$ with $g > 1$. Let $G \subset J(C)$ be a connected compact subgroup of real dimension $1$ of the Jacobian, and let $L$ be an even theta characteristic on $C$. We prove that $\{ζ\in G \mid H^0(C, L \otimes ζ) \neq 0\} = \emptyset$ if and only if $L \otimes ζ_G$ is an even theta characteristic on $C$, where $ζ_G$ is the unique non-trivial point of $G$ of order two.

Entanglement concentration via measurement:- role of imaginarity

The role of complex numbers in quantum theory extends beyond mathematical convenience, having recently been formalized as a resource under the framework of the resource theory of imaginarity. Operationally, imaginarity translates into using fewer resources in optical setups. In this work, we investigate the operational advantage offered by complex-valued measurements in the entanglement of assistance protocol for three-qubit systems. We demonstrate that employing such measurement bases leads to a significant improvement in the concentration of bipartite entanglement with the aid of the third party. We further analyze a modified entanglement swapping protocol and show that a three-qubit complex measurement bases with certain symmetries outperform the standard GHZ-basis. This is also one example where a three-qubit non-maximally entangled basis surpasses a maximally entangled one in generating entanglement. Construction of the basis also addresses the open problems raised in [Phys. Rev. A. \textbf{108}, 022220 (2023)]. As an intriguing application, we show that using this approach in quantum network percolation on a honeycomb lattice reduces the required bond occupation probability by $22.7\%$ and, requirement of entanglement by $10.6\%$ in each bond.

Direct image and pullback of Parabolic vector bundles

Niels Borne established a natural correspondence between the parabolic vector bundles on curves and vector bundles on root stacks. The notions of direct image of parabolic vector bundles and pullback of parabolic vector bundles were studied in \cite{Alfaya_Biswas}. We show that these two notions correspond to the notions direct image of vector bundles on root stacks and pullback of vector bundles on root stacks respectively. Some applications of this correspondence are given.

Existence of holomorphic Lie algebroid connections in higher dimensions

Let $(V, ϕ)$ be a holomorphic Lie algebroid over an irreducible smooth complex projective variety $X$ of dimension at least three, and let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle on $X$. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a holomorphic $(V, ϕ)$--connection on $E$.

Strong nonlocality with more imaginarity and less entanglement

Complex numbers are central to the formulation of quantum mechanics, yet their role as a genuine resource is only beginning to be understood. In this work, we demonstrate that quantum states with intrinsically complex amplitudes provide a fundamental advantage in state discrimination. We construct a set of five orthogonal three qubit pure states and show that the set is strongly nonlocal if and only if it includes imaginary components. Such a set becomes locally indistinguishable not only under local measurements but also against bipartite joint measurements. This enhanced robustness makes imaginarity a valuable resource for quantum cryptography since information encoded in these states remains secure against collaborative group attacks. Our results highlight a new operational role of complex numbers in quantum theory and establish imaginarity as a key enabler of cryptographic security. However, we reconstruct the set by replacing the only product state with a biseparable state whose shared entanglement between two parties nullifies the effect of imaginarity in exhibiting strong nonlocality. In fact, we show how entangling correlations between two distant parties can dilute the effect of imaginarity, and conversely, how imaginarity itself can mimic the role of entanglement. Nevertheless, the set spans a locally indistinguishable subspace, while its complement, in turn, produces distillable genuine entanglement. Notably, this is the smallest possible Unextendible Biseparable Basis (UBB) that resolves the open problem regarding the existence of a UBB of cardinality $d^2+d-1$ in $d^{\otimes 3}$. Our construction yields a highly powerful set, rich in resources from multiple perspectives of quantum information theory, including many-copy discrimination, unambiguous identification, entanglement creation from product state, and non-entangling perturbations.

Higher genus Angel surfaces

We prove the existence of complete minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ of arbitrary genus $p\, \ge\, 1$ and least total absolute curvature with precisely two ends -- one catenoidal and one Enneper-type -- thereby solving, affirmatively, a problem posed by Fujimori and Shoda. These surfaces, which are called \emph{Angel surfaces}, generalize some examples numerically constructed earlier by Weber. The construction of these minimal surfaces involves extending the orthodisk method developed by Weber and Wolf \cite{weber2002teichmuller}. A central idea in our construction is the notion of \emph{partial symmetry}, which enables us to introduce controlled symmetry into the surface.

Fixed points and Holomorphic Structures on Line Bundles over the Quantum Projective Line

It has recently been observed that, in contrast to the classical case, holomorphic structures on line bundles over the quantum projective line are not uniquely determined by degree. We formulate a fixed-point-theoretic framework for the analysis of flat $\bar\partial$-connections that define holomorphic structures on line bundles over the quantum projective line. Within this framework, we relate the existence of invertible solutions to the gauge equation associated with holomorphic structures precisely to the existence of fixed points, lying in the open unit ball, of certain nonlinear maps acting on an appropriate Banach space.

Brauer group of moduli stacks of parabolic principal bundles over a curve

We prove that the Brauer group of the moduli stack of parabolic stable principal $\text{PGL}(r,\mathbb{C})$-bundles on a curve $X$, for a generic system of weights along an arbitrary parabolic divisor, coincides with the Brauer group of the smooth locus of the corresponding coarse moduli space of parabolic stable principal $\text{PGL}(r,\mathbb{C})$-bundles. We also show that for any simple and simply connected complex linear algebraic group $G$, the analytic and algebraic Brauer groups of the moduli stack of quasi-parabolic principal $G$-bundles on $X$ vanish.

Geometry of the Space of Sections of Twistor Spaces with Circle Action

We study the holomorphic symplectic geometry of (the smooth locus of) the space of holomorphic sections of a twistor space with rotating circle action. The twistor space carries a line bundle with meromorphic connection constructed by Hitchin. We give an interpretation of Hitchin's meromorphic connection in the context of the Atiyah-Ward transform of the corresponding hyperholomorphic line bundle. It is shown that the residue of the meromorphic connection serves as a moment map for the induced circle action, and furthermore the critical points of this moment map are studied. Particular emphasis is given to the example of Deligne-Hitchin moduli spaces.

Pullback and Direct Image of Parabolic Ample and Parabolic Nef Vector Bundles

We prove that under a finite surjective map of irreducible smooth complex projective curves, the pullback and direct image of a parabolic ample (respectively, parabolic nef) vector bundle is again parabolic ample (respectively, parabolic nef) if and only if the original parabolic vector bundle is parabolic ample (respectively, parabolic nef).

Lie algebroid connection and Harder-Narasimhan reduction

Take a holomorphic Lie algebroid $(V,\, ϕ)$ on a compact connected Riemann surface $X$ such that the anchor map $ϕ$ is not surjective. Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of a complex reductive affine algebraic group $G$ and $E_P\, \subset\, E_G$ a holomorphic reduction of structure group, to $P$, of a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle $E_G$ on $X$. We prove that $E_P$ admits a holomorphic Lie algebroid connection for $(V,\,ϕ)$ if the reduction $E_P$ is infinitesimally rigid. If $E_P$ is the Harder--Narasimhan reduction of $E_G$, then it is shown that $E_P$ admits a holomorphic Lie algebroid connection for $(V,\,ϕ)$. In particular, for any point $x_0\,\in\, X$, the Harder--Narasimhan reduction $E_P$ admits a logarithmic connection that is nonsingular on the complement $X\setminus\{x_0\}$.
