On the monodromy of holomorphic differential systems

First we survey and explain the strategy of some recent results that construct holomorphic $\text{sl}(2, \mathbb C)$-differential systems over some Riemann surfaces $Σ_g$ of genus $g\geq 2$, satisfying the condition that the image of the associated monodromy homomorphism is (real) Fuchsian \cite{BDHH} or some cocompact Kleinian subgroup $$Γ\subset \text{SL}(2, \mathbb C)$$ as in \cite{BDHH2}. As a consequence, there exist holomorphic maps from $Σ_g$ to the quotient space $\text{SL}(2, \mathbb C)/ Γ$, where $Γ\subset \text{SL}(2, \mathbb C)$ is a cocompact lattice, that do not factor through any elliptic curve \cite{BDHH2}. This answers positively a question of Ghys in \cite{Gh}; the question was also raised by Huckleberry and Winkelmann in \cite{HW}. Then we prove that when $M$ is a Riemann surface, a Torelli type theorem holds for the affine group scheme over $\mathbb C$ obtained from the category of holomorphic connections on {\it étale trivial} holomorphic bundles. After that, we explain how to compute in a simple way the holonomy of a holomorphic connection on a free vector bundle. Finally, for a compact Kähler manifold $M$, we investigate the neutral Tannakian category given by the holomorphic connections on étale trivial holomorphic bundles over $M$. If $\varpi$ (respectively, $Θ$) stands for the affine group scheme over $\mathbb C$ obtained from the category of connections (respectively, connections on free (trivial) vector bundles), then the natural inclusion produces a morphism $v:{\mathcal O}(Θ)\longrightarrow {\mathcal O}(\varpi)$ of Hopf algebras. We present a description of the transpose of $v$ in terms of the iterated integrals.

Sasakian geometry and Heisenberg groups

We prove that a compact Sasakian manifolds whose first and second basic Chern classes vanish is locally isomorphic to the real Heisenberg group equipped with the standard left invariant Sasakian structure up to deformation associated to a basic $1$-from.

On the direct image of the adjoint line bundle

We give an algebraic-geometric proof of the fact that for a smooth fibration $π: X \longrightarrow Y$ of projective varieties, the direct image $π_*(L\otimes K_{X/Y})$ of the adjoint line bundle of an ample (respectively, nef and $π$-strongly big) line bundle $L$ is ample (respectively, nef and big).

Connections on Lie groupoids and Chern-Weil theory

Let $\mathbb{X}=[X_1\rightrightarrows X_0]$ be a Lie groupoid equipped with a connection, given by a smooth distribution $\mathcal{H} \subset T X_1$ transversal to the fibers of the source map. Under the assumption that the distribution $\mathcal{H}$is integrable, we define a version of de Rham cohomology for the pair $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$, and we study connections on principal $G$-bundles over $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$ in terms of the associated Atiyah sequence of vector bundles. We also discuss associated constructions for differentiable stacks. Finally, we develop the corresponding Chern-Weil theory and describe characteristic classes of principal G-bundles over a pair $(\mathbb{X}, \mathcal{H})$.

Brauer group of moduli stack of stable parabolic $\textnormal{PGL}(r)$-bundles over a curve

Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We prove that the Brauer group of moduli stack of stable parabolic $\textnormal{PGL}(r,k)$-bundles with full flag quasi-parabolic structures at an arbitrary parabolic divisor on a curve $X$ coincides with the Brauer group of the smooth locus of the corresponding coarse moduli space of parabolic $\textnormal{PGL}(r,k)$-bundles. We also compute the Brauer group of the smooth locus of this coarse moduli for more general quasi-parabolic types and weights satisfying certain conditions.

Higgs bundles and flat connections over compact Sasakian manifolds, II: quasi-regular bundles

In this continuation of \cite{BK} we investigate the non-abelian Hodge correspondence on compact Sasakian manifolds with emphasis on the quasi-regular case. On quasi-regular Sasakian manifolds, we introduce the notions of quasi-regularity and regularity of basic vector bundles. These notions are useful in relating the vector bundles over a quasi-regular Sasakian manifold with the orbibundles over the orbifold defined by the orbits of the Reeb foliation of the Sasakian manifold. We note that the non-abelian Hodge correspondence on quasi-regular Sasakian manifolds gives a canonical correspondence between the semi-simple representations of the orbifold fundamental groups and the Higgs orbibundles on locally cyclic complex orbifolds admitting Hodge metrics. Under the quasi-regularity of Sasakian manifolds and vector bundles, we extend this correspondence to one between the flat bundles and the basic Higgs bundles. We also prove a Sasakian analogue of the characterization of numerically flat bundles given by Demailly, Peternell and Schneider.

Real Slices of ${\rm SL}(r,\mathbb{C})$-Opers

Through the action of an anti-holomorphic involution $σ$ (a real structure) on a Riemann surface $X$, we consider the induced actions on ${\rm SL}(r,\mathbb{C})$-opers and study the real slices fixed by such actions. By constructing this involution for different descriptions of the space of ${\rm SL}(r,\mathbb{C})$-opers, we are able to give a natural parametrization of the fixed point locus via differentials on the Riemann surface, which in turn allows us to study their geometric properties.

On the symplectic structure over the moduli space of projective structures on a surface

The moduli space of projective structures on a compact oriented surface $Σ$ has a holomorphic symplectic structure, which is constructed by pulling back, using the monodromy map, the Atiyah--Bott--Goldman symplectic form on the character variety ${\rm Hom}(π_1(Σ), \text{PSL}(2, {\mathbb C}))/\!\!/\text{PSL}(2, {\mathbb C})$. We produce another construction of this symplectic form. This construction shows that the symplectic form on the moduli space is actually algebraic. Note that the monodromy map is only holomorphic and not algebraic, so the first construction does not give algebraicity of the pulled back form.

Functions on the moduli space of projective structures on complex curves

We investigate the moduli space ${\mathcal P}_g$ of smooth complex projective curves of genus $g$ equipped with a projective structure. When $g\, \geq\, 3$, it is shown that this moduli space ${\mathcal P}_g$ does not admit any nonconstant algebraic function. This is in contrast with the case of ${\mathcal P}_2$ which is known to be an affine variety.

Some results on Seshadri constants of vector bundles

We study Seshadri constants of certain ample vector bundles on projective varieties. Our main motivation is the following question: Under what conditions are the Seshadri constants of ample vector bundles at least 1 at all points of the variety. We exhibit some conditions under which this question has an affirmative answer. We primarily consider ample bundles on projective spaces and Hirzebruch surfaces. We also show that Seshadri constants of ample vector bundles can be arbitrarily small.

Geometrization of the TUY/WZW/KZ connection

Given a simple, simply connected, complex algebraic group G, a flat projective connection on the bundle of nonabelian theta functions on the moduli space of semistable parabolic G-bundles over any family of smooth projective curves with marked points was constructed by the authors in an earlier paper. Here, it is shown that the identification between the bundle of nonabelian theta functions and the bundle of WZNW conformal blocks is flat with respect to this connection and the one constructed by Tsuchiya-Ueno-Yamada. As an application, we give a geometric construction of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection on the trivial bundle over the configuration space of points in the projective line whose typical fiber is the space of invariants of tensor product of representations.

Topology of the moduli spaces of Higgs bundles over abelian varieties

Abstract. Let G be a complex reductive group and A be an Abelian variety of dimension d over $\mathbb{C}$. We determine the Poincaré polynomials and also the mixed Hodge polynomials of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{A}^{H}(G)$ of G-Higgs bundles over A. We show that these are normal varieties with symplectic singularities, when G is a classical semisimple group. For $G=GL_{n}(\mathbb{C})$, we also compute Poincaré polynomials of natural desingularizations of $\mathcal{M}_{A}^{H}(G)$ and of G-character varieties of free abelian groups, in some cases. In particular, explicit formulas are obtained when dim A=d=1, and also for rank 2 and 3 Higgs bundles, for arbitrary d>1.

Counting rational curves with an $m$-fold point

We obtain a recursive formula for the number of rational degree $d$ curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ that pass through $3d+1-m$ generic points and that have an $m$-fold singular point. The special case of counting curves with a triple point was solved earlier by other authors. We obtain the formula by considering a family version of Kontsevich's recursion formula, in contrast to the excess intersection theoretic approach of others. A large number of low degree cases have been worked out explicitly.

A parabolic analog of a theorem of Beilinson and Schechtman

For a simple, simply connected, complex group G, we prove an explicit formula to compute the Atiyah class of parabolic determinant of cohomology line bundle on the moduli space of parabolic $G$-bundles. This generalizes an earlier result of Beilinson-Schechtman.

Connections on trivial vector bundles over projective schemes

Over a smooth and proper complex scheme, the differential Galois group of an integrable connection may be obtained as the closure of the transcendental monodromy representation. In this paper, we employ a completely algebraic variation of this idea by restricting attention to connections on trivial vector bundles and replacing the fundamental group by a certain Lie algebra constructed from the regular forms. In more detail, we show that the differential Galois group is a certain ``closure'' of the aforementioned Lie algebra. This is then applied to construct connections on curves with prescribed differential Galois group.

Seshadri constants of parabolic vector bundles

Let $X$ be a complex projective variety, and let $E_{\ast}$ be a parabolic vector bundle on $X$. We introduce the notion of \textit{parabolic Seshadri constants} of $E_{\ast}$. It is shown that these constants are analogous to the classical Seshadri constants of vector bundles, in particular, they have parallel definitions and properties. We prove a Seshadri criterion for parabolic ampleness of $E_{\ast}$ in terms of parabolic Seshadri constants. We also compute parabolic Seshadri constants for symmetric powers and tensor products of parabolic vector bundles.
