SimuScene: Simulation-Ready Compositional 3D Scene Reconstruction from a Single Image

Reconstructing interactive, simulation-ready 3D scenes from a single image is a critical bottleneck for robotic manipulation. While recent single-image lifters recover plausible per-object shapes, composing them yields scenes that collapse under physical simulation due to interpenetrating, hovering, or sinking objects. Existing physics-aware methods address this strictly as a post-hoc layout correction, leaving the underlying geometric errors unresolved. To address this, we introduce SimuScene, a compositional 3D reconstruction pipeline that puts physics in the loop of shape and layout estimation. Rather than using physics merely for layout cleanup, we utilize the physics engine as a diagnostic measurement tool during the generative process itself. By diagnostically simulating reconstructed objects under gravity, we convert penetration and support failures into quantitative correction signals that drive gravity-axis stretching and amodal shape resampling. This physics-informed feedback loop mitigates accumulated reconstruction errors and produces a stable, simulation-ready compositional 3D scene. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art performance on physical stability and geometric alignment benchmarks. We further highlight SimuScene's utility by deploying reconstructed environments in humanoid control and robot-arm manipulation tasks.

OmniRobotHome: A Multi-Camera Home Platform for Real-Time Human-Robot Interaction

Robots in homes must continuously sense the people around them, yet most prior work relies on limited or offline perception. We argue that perception quality is the dominant factor governing what interaction is achievable at home, and build a testbed to test this claim. OmniRobotHome instruments a furnished home with 48 hardware-synchronized cameras and three manipulators in a unified world frame, delivering real-time markerless full-body human pose, 6D object pose, anticipatory motion forecasting, and a social avatar agent that converses with residents. Using the platform, we treat perception quality as an experimental variable across safety, human assistance, and social interaction, and find that interaction quality degrades measurably as real-timeness, granularity, coverage, accuracy, forecasting, or memory is weakened. All code and data will be released.

Ternary-Input Binary-Weight CNN Accelerator Design for Miniature Object Classification System with Query-Driven Spatial DVS

Miniature imaging systems are essential for space-constrained applications but are limited by memory and power constraints. While machine learning can reduce data size by extracting key features, its high energy demands often exceed the capacity of small batteries. This paper presents a CNN hardware accelerator optimized for object classification in miniature imaging systems. It processes data from a spatial Dynamic Vision Sensor (DVS), reconfigurable to a temporal DVS via pixel sharing, minimizing sensor area. By using ternary DVS outputs and a ternary-input, binary-weight neural network, the design reduces computation and memory needs. Fabricated in 28 nm CMOS, the accelerator cuts data size by 81% and MAC operations by 27%. It achieves 440 ms inference time at just 1.6 mW power consumption, improving the Figure-of-Merit (FoM) by 7.3x over prior CNN accelerators for miniature systems.

Learning to Generate Human-Human-Object Interactions from Textual Descriptions

The way humans interact with each other, including interpersonal distances, spatial configuration, and motion, varies significantly across different situations. To enable machines to understand such complex, context-dependent behaviors, it is essential to model multiple people in relation to the surrounding scene context. In this paper, we present a novel research problem to model the correlations between two people engaged in a shared interaction involving an object. We refer to this formulation as Human-Human-Object Interactions (HHOIs). To overcome the lack of dedicated datasets for HHOIs, we present a newly captured HHOIs dataset and a method to synthesize HHOI data by leveraging image generative models. As an intermediary, we obtain individual human-object interaction (HOIs) and human-human interaction (HHIs) from the HHOIs, and with these data, we train an text-to-HOI and text-to-HHI model using score-based diffusion model. Finally, we present a unified generative framework that integrates the two individual model, capable of synthesizing complete HHOIs in a single advanced sampling process. Our method extends HHOI generation to multi-human settings, enabling interactions involving more than two individuals. Experimental results show that our method generates realistic HHOIs conditioned on textual descriptions, outperforming previous approaches that focus only on single-human HOIs. Furthermore, we introduce multi-human motion generation involving objects as an application of our framework.

PERSE: Personalized 3D Generative Avatars from A Single Portrait

We present PERSE, a method for building a personalized 3D generative avatar from a reference portrait. Our avatar enables facial attribute editing in a continuous and disentangled latent space to control each facial attribute, while preserving the individual's identity. To achieve this, our method begins by synthesizing large-scale synthetic 2D video datasets, where each video contains consistent changes in facial expression and viewpoint, along with variations in a specific facial attribute from the original input. We propose a novel pipeline to produce high-quality, photorealistic 2D videos with facial attribute editing. Leveraging this synthetic attribute dataset, we present a personalized avatar creation method based on 3D Gaussian Splatting, learning a continuous and disentangled latent space for intuitive facial attribute manipulation. To enforce smooth transitions in this latent space, we introduce a latent space regularization technique by using interpolated 2D faces as supervision. Compared to previous approaches, we demonstrate that PERSE generates high-quality avatars with interpolated attributes while preserving the identity of the reference individual.

Spin-orbit coupling controlled two-dimensional magnetism in chromium trihalides

CrX$_3$ (X = Cl, Br, I) have the same crystal structure and Hamiltonian but different ligand spin-orbit coupling (SOC) constant $\lambda_X$, providing excellent material platform exploring for exotic two-dimensional (2D) spin orders. Their microscopic mechanism underlying 2D spin physics remain unestablished, along with experimental corroboration of Kitaev exchange interaction, central to realizing topological quantum spin liquids. Finding direct evidence for Kitaev interaction and determining its value has been an essential but formidable challenge in Kitaev physics. Here we report the direct Kitaev interaction signature in magnetic anisotropy measured by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy. We present measured values of Heisenberg $J$, Kitaev $K$, and off-diagonal symmetric $\Gamma$ exchange interactions in CrX$_3$ determined using FMR and exact diagonalization. $K$ and $\Gamma$ exhibit dominant dependencies on $\lambda_X$, indicating its central role in 2D magnetism. Our study provides a foundation for designing 2D magnetic materials exhibiting novel behaviors by tuning intrinsic material parameters such as SOC.

Guess The Unseen: Dynamic 3D Scene Reconstruction from Partial 2D Glimpses

In this paper, we present a method to reconstruct the world and multiple dynamic humans in 3D from a monocular video input. As a key idea, we represent both the world and multiple humans via the recently emerging 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS) representation, enabling to conveniently and efficiently compose and render them together. In particular, we address the scenarios with severely limited and sparse observations in 3D human reconstruction, a common challenge encountered in the real world. To tackle this challenge, we introduce a novel approach to optimize the 3D-GS representation in a canonical space by fusing the sparse cues in the common space, where we leverage a pre-trained 2D diffusion model to synthesize unseen views while keeping the consistency with the observed 2D appearances. We demonstrate our method can reconstruct high-quality animatable 3D humans in various challenging examples, in the presence of occlusion, image crops, few-shot, and extremely sparse observations. After reconstruction, our method is capable of not only rendering the scene in any novel views at arbitrary time instances, but also editing the 3D scene by removing individual humans or applying different motions for each human. Through various experiments, we demonstrate the quality and efficiency of our methods over alternative existing approaches.

Roadmap on Nanoscale Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The field of nanoscale magnetic resonance imaging (NanoMRI) was started 30 years ago. It was motivated by the desire to image single molecules and molecular assemblies, such as proteins and virus particles, with near-atomic spatial resolution and on a length scale of 100 nm. Over the years, the NanoMRI field has also expanded to include the goal of useful high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of molecules under ambient conditions, including samples up to the micron-scale. The realization of these goals requires the development of spin detection techniques that are many orders of magnitude more sensitive than conventional NMR and MRI, capable of detecting and controlling nanoscale ensembles of spins. Over the years, a number of different technical approaches to NanoMRI have emerged, each possessing a distinct set of capabilities for basic and applied areas of science. The goal of this roadmap article is to report the current state of the art in NanoMRI technologies, outline the areas where they are poised to have impact, identify the challenges that lie ahead, and propose methods to meet these challenges. This roadmap also shows how developments in NanoMRI techniques can lead to breakthroughs in emerging quantum science and technology applications.

Siamese Learning-based Monarch Butterfly Localization

A new GPS-less, daily localization method is proposed with deep learning sensor fusion that uses daylight intensity and temperature sensor data for Monarch butterfly tracking. Prior methods suffer from the location-independent day length during the equinox, resulting in high localization errors around that date. This work proposes a new Siamese learning-based localization model that improves the accuracy and reduces the bias of daily Monarch butterfly localization using light and temperature measurements. To train and test the proposed algorithm, we use $5658$ daily measurement records collected through a data measurement campaign involving 306 volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico from 2018 to 2020. This model achieves a mean absolute error of $1.416^\circ$ in latitude and $0.393^\circ$ in longitude coordinates outperforming the prior method.

Origin of Nonlinear Damping due to Mode Coupling in Auto-Oscillatory Modes Strongly Driven by Spin-Orbit Torque

We investigate the physical origin of nonlinear damping due to mode coupling between several auto-oscillatory modes driven by spin-orbit torque in constricted Py/Pt heterostructures by examining the dependence of auto-oscillation on temperature and applied field orientation. We observe a transition in the nonlinear damping of the auto-oscillation modes extracted from the total oscillation power as a function of drive current, which coincides with the onset of power redistribution amongst several modes and the crossover from linewidth narrowing to linewidth broadening in all individual modes. This indicates the activation of another relaxation process by nonlinear magnon-magnon scattering within the modes. We also find that both nonlinear damping and threshold current in the mode-interaction damping regime at high drive current after transition are temperature independent, suggesting that the mode coupling occurs dominantly through a non-thermal magnon scattering process via a dipole or exchange interaction rather than thermally excited magnon-mediated scattering. This finding presents a promising pathway to overcome the current limitations of efficiently controlling the interaction between two highly nonlinear magnetic oscillators to prevent mode crosstalk or inter-mode energy transfer and deepens understanding of complex nonlinear spin dynamics in multimode spin wave systems.

Spin orbit torque nano-oscillators by dipole field-localized spin wave modes

We demonstrate a high-quality spin orbit torque nano-oscillator comprised of spin wave modes confined by the magnetic field by the strongly inhomogeneous dipole field of a nearby micromagnet. This approach enables variable spatial confinement and systematic tuning of magnon spectrum and spectral separations for studying the impact of multi-mode interactions on auto-oscillations. We find these dipole field-localized spin wave modes exhibit good characteristic properties as auto-oscillators--narrow linewidth and large amplitude--while persisting up to room temperature. We find that the linewidth of the lowest-lying localized mode is approximately proportional to temperature in good agreement with theoretical analysis of the impact of thermal fluctuations. This demonstration of a clean oscillator with tunable properties provides a powerful tool for understanding the fundamental limitations and linewidth contributions to improve future spin-Hall oscillators.

Migrating Monarch Butterfly Localization Using Multi-Sensor Fusion Neural Networks

Details of Monarch butterfly migration from the U.S. to Mexico remain a mystery due to lack of a proper localization technology to accurately localize and track butterfly migration. In this paper, we propose a deep learning based butterfly localization algorithm that can estimate a butterfly's daily location by analyzing a light and temperature sensor data log continuously obtained from an ultra-low power, mm-scale sensor attached to the butterfly. To train and test the proposed neural network based multi-sensor fusion localization algorithm, we collected over 1500 days of real world sensor measurement data with 82 volunteers all over the U.S. The proposed algorithm exhibits a mean absolute error of <1.5 degree in latitude and <0.5 degree in longitude Earth coordinate, satisfying our target goal for the Monarch butterfly migration study.

Fundamental Spin Interactions Underlying the Magnetic Anisotropy in the Kitaev Ferromagnet CrI$_3$

We lay the foundation for determining the microscopic spin interactions in two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnets by combining angle-dependent ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) experiments on high quality CrI$_3$ single crystals with theoretical modeling based on symmetries. We discover that the Kitaev interaction is the strongest in this material with $K \sim -5.2$ meV, 25 times larger than the Heisenberg exchange $J \sim -0.2$ meV, and responsible for opening the $\sim$5 meV gap at the Dirac points in the spin-wave dispersion. Furthermore, we find that the symmetric off-diagonal anisotropy $\Gamma \sim -67.5$ $\mu$eV, though small, is crucial for opening a $\sim$0.3 meV gap in the magnon spectrum at the zone center and stabilizing ferromagnetism in the 2D limit. The high resolution of the FMR data further reveals a $\mu$eV-scale quadrupolar contribution to the $S=3/2$ magnetism. Our identification of the underlying exchange anisotropies opens paths toward 2D ferromagnets with higher $T_\text{C}$ as well as magnetically frustrated quantum spin liquids based on Kitaev physics.

Imaging Dirac-Mass Disorder from Magnetic Dopant-Atoms in the Ferromagnetic Topological Insulator Cr$_x$(Bi$_{0.1}$Sb$_{0.9}$)$_{2-x}$Te$_3$

To achieve and utilize the most exotic electronic phenomena predicted for the surface states of 3D topological insulators (TI),it is necessary to open a "Dirac-mass gap" in their spectrum by breaking time-reversal symmetry. Use of magnetic dopant atoms to generate a ferromagnetic state is the most widely used approach. But it is unknown how the spatial arrangements of the magnetic dopant atoms influence the Dirac-mass gap at the atomic scale or, conversely, whether the ferromagnetic interactions between dopant atoms are influenced by the topological surface states. Here we image the locations of the magnetic (Cr) dopant atoms in the ferromagnetic TI Cr$_{0.08}$(Bi$_{0.1}$Sb$_{0.9}$)$_{1.92}$Te$_3$. Simultaneous visualization of the Dirac-mass gap $\Delta(r)$ reveals its intense disorder, which we demonstrate directly is related to fluctuations in $n(r)$, the Cr atom areal density in the termination layer. We find the relationship of surface-state Fermi wavevectors to the anisotropic structure of $\Delta(r)$ consistent with predictions for surface ferromagnetism mediated by those states. Moreover, despite the intense Dirac-mass disorder, the anticipated relationship $\Delta(r)\propto n(r)$ is confirmed throughout, and exhibits an electron-dopant interaction energy $J^*$=145$meV\cdot nm^2$. These observations reveal how magnetic dopant atoms actually generate the TI mass gap locally and that, to achieve the novel physics expected of time-reversal-symmetry breaking TI materials, control of the resulting Dirac-mass gap disorder will be essential.

Simultaneous Transitions in Cuprate Momentum-Space Topology and Electronic Symmetry Breaking

The existence of electronic symmetry breaking in the underdoped cuprates, and its disappearance with increased hole-density $p$, are now widely reported. However, the relationship between this transition and the momentum space ($\vec{k}$-space) electronic structure underpinning the superconductivity has not been established. Here we visualize the $\vec{Q}$=0 (intra-unit-cell) and $\vec{Q}\neq$0 (density wave) broken-symmetry states simultaneously with the coherent $\vec{k}$-space topology, for Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+d}$ samples spanning the phase diagram 0.06$\leq p \leq$0.23. We show that the electronic symmetry breaking tendencies weaken with increasing $p$ and disappear close to $p_c$=0.19. Concomitantly, the coherent $\vec{k}$-space topology undergoes an abrupt transition, from arcs to closed contours, at the same $p_c$. These data reveal that the $\vec{k}$-space topology transformation in cuprates is linked intimately with the disappearance of the electronic symmetry breaking at a concealed critical point.
