Dual solutions for opposing mixed convection in porous media

The problem of steady mixed convection boundary-layer flow on a cooled vertical permeable circular cylinder embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium is studied. Here, we evaluate the flow and heat transfer characteristics numerically for various values of the governing parameters and demonstrate the existence of dual solutions beyond a critical point.

Directed weak fibrations

In a previous paper [21] the author studied the homotopy lifting property in the category dTop of directed spaces in the sense of M. Grandis [12], [13], [14]. The present paper, which is a continuation of aforementioned article, introduces and studies the directed weak homotopy property (dWCHP) and directed weak fibrations, extending to the category dTop the well known Dold's (or weak) - fibrations [6]. The dWCHP is characterized in several ways. Then the notion of a directed fibre homotopy equivalence (dFHE) between directed weak fibrations is studied. Some examples and counterexamples are given.

Transition from local to global of dFHE and dWCHP

In a previous paper [22] the author studied the directed weak covering homotopy property (dWCHP)and directed weak fibrations in the category dTop of directed spaces in the sense of M. Grandis [12], [13], [14]. This type of maps extend to the category dTop the well known Dold's (or weak)fibrations [6]. In this paper the transition from local to global of the dFHE (directed fiber homotopy equivalence) and the dWCHP are studied by proving two Dold type theorems and respectively a tom Dieck-Kamps-Puppe type theorem [3]. Some new notions of directed topology are defined: d-halo, d-SEP, d-numerable covering, d-shrinkable. Some examples and counterexamples are given.

On thermal boundary layers on a flat plate subjected to a variable heat flux

The problem of a steady forced convection thermal boundary-layer past a flat plate with a prescribed surface heat flux is investigated both analytically and numerically. In view of the present formulation, the governing equations reduce to the well-know Blasius similarity equation and to the full boundary-layer energy equation with two parameters: Prandtl number and surface heat flux parameter. The range of existence of solutions is considered. The asymptotic solutions are derived and compared with the numerical solutions of the full boundary-layer equation. A very good agreement between these asymptotic solutions and numerical simulations are found in the range of Prandtl numbers considered.

Inclined wall plumes in porous media

A numerical solution is presented for the natural convection from inclined wall plumes which arise from a line thermal source imbedded at the leading edge of an adiabatic plate with arbitrary tilt angle and embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium. An appropriate transformation of the governing boundary-layer equations is proposed and a very efficient novel numerical solution is proposed to obtain rigorous numerical solutions of the transformed nonsimilar equations over a wide range of tilt angle from the vertical to the horizontal.
