Time evolution of the free Dirac field in spatially flat FLRW space-times

The framework of the relativistic quantum mechanics on spatially flat FLRW space-times is considered for deriving the analytical solutions of the Dirac equation in different local charts of these manifolds. Systems of commuting conserved operators are used for determining the fundamental solutions as common eigenspinors giving thus physical meaning to the integration constants related to the eigenvalues of these operators. Since these systems, in general, are incomplete on the FLRW space-times there are integration constants that must be fixed by setting the vacuum either as the traditional adiabatic one or as the rest frame vacuum we proposed recently. All the known solutions of the Dirac equation on these manifolds are discussed in all details and a new type of spherical waves of given energy in the de Sitter expanding universe is reported here for the first time.

Longitudinal Doppler effect in de Sitter expanding universe

A new redshift formula is obtained considering the longitudinal Doppler effect in the de Sitter expanding universe where the relative geodesic motion is governed by the Lorenzian isometries of our new de Sitter relativity [I. I. Cot\u aescu, {Eur. Phys. J. C} {\bf 77} (2017) 485]. This formula combines in a non-trivial manner the well-known cosmological contribution given by Lama\' itre's law with that of the relative motion of the source with respect to a fixed observer as in de Sitter relativity instead of special relativity. Other related quantities as the dispersion relation, the propagation time of the photon and the real distance between source and observer at the moment of observation are discussed pointing out their specific features in the de Sitter relativity.

Flat limit of the de Sitter QFT in the rest frame vacuum

The problem of the flat limits of the scalar and spinor fields on the de Sitter expanding universe is considered in the rest frame vacuum where the frequencies are separated in rest frames as in special relativity. The phases of the fundamental solutions of these fields are regularized in order to obtain Minkowskian flat limits. New expressions of scalar mode functions or Dirac spinors reaching natural flat limits are given in the rest frame vacuum and suitable approximate formulas are proposed. In this manner the flat limit is correctly defined for the entire quantum theory since the one-particle operators tend to those of special relativity.

First order QED effects on a spatially flat FLRW spacetime with a Milne-type scale factor

The quantum electrodynamics (QED) on a spatially flat $(1+3)$-dimensional Friedmann-Lema\^ itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime with a Milne-type scale factor is outlined focusing on the amplitudes of the allowed effects in the first order of perturbations. The definition of the transition rates is reconsidered obtaining an appropriate angular behavior of the probability of the pair creation from a photon.

Rest frame vacua of massive Klein-Gordon fields on spatially flat FLRW spacetimes

We propose a method of projecting the quantum states from a state space of a given geometry into another state space generated by a different geometry, taking care on the correct normalization which is crucial in interpreting the quantum theory. Thanks to this method we can define on any spatially flat FLRW spacetime states in which genuine Minkowskian parameters are measured. We use these Minkowskian states for separating the frequencies in the rest frames of the massive scalar particles defining thus the scalar rest frame vacuum. We show that this vacuum is stable on the de Sitter expanding universe where the energy is conserved. In contrast, on a spatially flat FLRW spacetime with a Milne-type scale factor this vacuum results to be dynamic, corresponding to a time-dependent rest energy interpreted as an effective mass. This dynamic vacuum give rise to a cosmological particle creation which is significant only in the early Milne-type universe considered here. Some interesting features of this new effect are pointed out in a brief analysis.

Propagators of the Dirac fermions on spatially flat FLRW spacetimes

The general formalism of the free Dirac fermions on spatially flat $(1+3)$-dimensional Friedmann-Lema\^ itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetimes is developed in momentum representation. The mode expansions in terms of the fundamental spinors satisfying the charge conjugation and normalization conditions are used for deriving the structure of the anti-commutator matrix-functions and, implicitly, of the retarded, advanced, and Feynman fermion propagators. The principal result is that the new type of integral representation we proposed recently in the de Sitter case can be applied to the Dirac fermions in any spatially flat FLRW geometry. Moreover, the Dirac equation of the left-handed massless fermions can be analytically solved finding a general spinor solution and deriving the integral representations of the neutrino propagators. It is shown that in the Minkowski flat spacetime our new integral representation is up to a change of variable just like the usual Fourier representation of the fermion propagators. The form of the Feynman propagator of the massive fermions on a spatially flat FLRW spacetime with a scale factor of Milne-type is also outlined.

Rest frame vacuum of the Dirac field on spatially flat FLRW spacetimes

In quantum theory of the free Dirac field on spatially flat FLRW spacetimes we introduce a new type of vacuum able to separate the positive and negative frequencies in the rest frames. This is refereed as the rest frame vacuum shoving that this differs from the adiabatic vacuum apart from the Minkowski spacetime where these two vacua coincide.

Aharonov-Bohm rings in de Sitter expanding universe

The $(1+3)$-dimensional Dirac equation of the fermions moving in ideal Aharonov-Bohm rings in the de Sitter expanding universe is used for deriving the exact expressions of the general relativistic partial currents and corresponding energies. In the de Sitter geometry, these quantities depend on time but these are related each other just as in the non-relativistic case or in special relativity. A specific relativistic effect is the saturation of the partial currents for high values of the total angular momentum. The total relativistic persistent current at $T=0$ takes over this property even though it is evolving in time because of the de Sitter expansion.

Collective classical motion on hyperbolic spacetimes of any dimensions

The geodesics equations on de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spacetimes of any dimensions, are the starting point for deriving the general form of the Boltzmann equation in terms of conserved quantities. The simple equation for the non-equilibrium Marle and Anderson-Witting models are derived and the distributions of the Boltzmann-Marle model on these manifolds are written down first in terms of conserved quantities and then as functions of canonical variables.

Scattering of Dirac fermions by spherical massive bodies

The asymptotic form of Dirac spinors in the field of a Schwarzschild black hole is used for deriving analytically for the first time the phase shifts of the partial wave analysis of Dirac fermions scattered from massive spherical bodies, imagined as black holes surrounded by a surface producing total reflection. A simple model is analyzed by using graphical methods.

Propagators of the Dirac fermions in de Sitter expanding universe

The propagators of the Dirac fermions are studied in the configuration representation on the expanding portion of the $(1+3)$-dimensional de Sitter spacetime considering a fixed vacuum of Bunch-Davies type. In this representation the method of Koksma and Prokopec [J. F. Koksma and T. Prokopec, Class. Quant. Grav. {\bf 26}, 125003 (2009)] is applied recovering thus the form of the propagators in the massive case but obtaining a new result for the left-handed massless fermions (neutrinos).

Integral representation of the Feynman propagators of the Dirac fermions on the de Sitter expanding universe

The propagators of the Dirac fermions on the expanding portion of the (1+3)-dimensional de Sitter spacetime are considered as mode sums in momentum representation with a fixed vacuum of Bunch-Davies type. The principal result reported here is a new integral representation of the Feynman propagators of the massive and left-handed massless Dirac fields which can be used for deriving the Feynman rules of the de Sitter QED in Coulomb gauge or of an extended QFT.

Covariant fields on anti-de Sitter spacetimes

The covariant free fields of any spin on anti-de Sitter spacetimes are studied, pointing out that these transform under isometries according to covariant representations of the anti-de Sitter isometry group, induced by those of the Lorentz group. Applying the method of ladder operators it is shown that the covariant representations with unique spin are equivalent with discrete unitary irreducible representations of positive energy of the universal covering group of the isometry one. The action of the Casimir operators is studied finding how the weights of these representations may depend on the mass and spin of the covariant field. The conclusion is that on anti-de Sitter spacetime one cannot formulate an universal mass condition as in special relativity.

de Sitter relativity in central charts

The relative geodesic motion in central charts (i.e. static and spherically symmetric) on the $(1+3)$-dimensional de Sitter spacetimes is studied in terms of conserved quantities. The Lorentzian isometries are derived, relating the coordinates of the local chart of a fixed observer with the coordinates of a mobile chart considered as the rest frame of a massive paticle freely moving on a timelike geodesic. The time dilation and Lorentz contraction are discussed pointing out some notable features of the de Sitter relativity in central charts.

de Sitter geodesics

The geodesics on the $(1+3)$-dimensional de Sitter spacetime are considered studying how their parameters are determined by the conserved quantities in the conformal Euclidean, Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker, de Sitter-Painlevé and static local charts with Cartesian space coordinates. Moreover, it is shown that there exist a special static chart in which the geodesics are genuine hyperbolas whose asymptotes are given by the conserved momentum and the associated dual momentum.

Simple kinematic effects on de Sitter expanding universe

Our recent results concerning the transformation under isometries of the conserved quantities on de Sitter manifolds, allow us to define the rest frame and study the relative geodesic motion in terms of conserved momentum, revealing thus various relativistic effects [I. I. Cotaescu, arXiv:1701.08499]. Here we discuss the time dilation (of the twin paradox) and the Lorentz contraction on the de Sitter expanding portions, pointing out the dependence of these effects on the position and moment in which the time and lengths are measured.
