Finiteness and holonomicity of skein modules

We prove a generalised version of finiteness of skein modules for 3-manifolds by including boundary. We show that internal skein modules are holonomic modules over the internal skein algebra of the boundary - a property including finite generation and a Lagrangian support condition. Our approach involves defining skein transfer bimodules, topologically obtained by 2-handle attachments, and establishing q-analogues of statements in D-module theory to prove preservation of holonomicity.

Higher tensor categories and their extensions: notes from the Scottish Talbot On Algebra and Topology

These lecture notes are the product of a week-long learning workshop on the work of Johnson-Freyd and Reutter on the problem of the existence of minimal nondegenerate extensions of braided fusion categories (arXiv:2105.15167). They recount the mathematical arguments of the original paper from an expository angle, with background material covering the algebra and homotopy theory required to understand the statement and follow the proof. The notes are aimed at newcomers to the field of (braided) fusion 1- and 2-categories.

CFT correlators and mapping class group averages

Mapping class group averages appear in the study of 3D gravity partition functions. In this paper, we work with 3D topological field theories to establish a bulk-boundary correspondence between such averages and correlators of 2D rational CFTs whose chiral mapping class group representations are irreducible and satisfy a finiteness property. We show that Ising-type modular fusion categories satisfy these properties on surfaces with or without field insertions, extending results in [Jian et al., JHEP 10 (2020) 129], and we comment on the absence of invertible global symmetries in the examples we consider.

Mapping class group representations and Morita classes of algebras

A modular fusion category C allows one to define projective representations of the mapping class groups of closed surfaces of any genus. We show that if all these representations are irreducible, then C has a unique Morita-class of simple non-degenerate algebras, namely that of the tensor unit. This improves on a result by Andersen and Fjelstad, albeit under stronger assumptions. One motivation to look at this problem comes from questions in three-dimensional quantum gravity.
