New Taylor and Laurent series of axially harmonic, Fueter regular and polyanalytic functions

The Fueter-Sce mapping theorem stands as one of the most profound outcomes in complex and hypercomplex analysis, producing hypercomplex generalizations of holomorphic functions. In recent years, delving into the factorization of the second operator appearing in the Fueter-Sce mapping theorem has uncovered its potential to generate novel classes of functions and their respective functional calculi. The sets of functions obtained from this factorization and the associated functional calculi define the so-called {\em fine structures on the $S$-spectrum}. This paper aims to comprehensively investigate the function theories for the fine structures of Dirac type in the quaternionic framework, presenting new series expansions for axially harmonic, Fueter regular, and axially polyanalytic functions. These series expansions are highly nontrivial. In fact, when considering the hypercomplex realm, specifically the quaternionic or the Clifford setting, extending the concept of complex power series expansion is not immediate, and different Taylor and Laurent expansions appear with different sets of convergence. Additionally, our objectives include establishing the representation formulas for these function spaces; such formulas encode the fundamental properties of the functions and have numerous consequences. Finally, in the last section of this paper, we explain the applications of the fine structures in operator theory.

The Corona Problem for Slice Holomorphic Functions via the Matrix Corona Problem

In this paper we prove the Corona theorem for slice hyperholomorphic functions in a general way that applies to functions with values in a Clifford algebra $\mathbb R_n$ for any $n\geq 2$. This general proof is based on a matrix version of Corona's theorem and then exploiting some symmetries of the matrices that allow to reconstruct the values of the functions. The crucial idea is to tie together the algebra of the functions, the Bezout identities and the Carleson-type conditions. The results we obtain rest on a new way of writing the slice product which improves the standard approach and which holds in general dimension.

Operator model and a trace formula for pairs of unitary operators

Using the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces introduced by L. de Branges and J. Rovnyak we prove a trace formula for pairs of operators in Hilbert space in terms of a Carathéodory function. We consider the special case, when the latter is rational. An application to the theory of first order discrete systems is given.

The $S$-resolvent estimates for the Spinor Dirac operator on manifolds with boundary conditions

The aim of this paper is to show that the spectral theory based on the S-spectrum is particularly well suited for the Dirac operator on manifolds, even in cases where the operator is not self adjoint. Traditionally, for non-self adjoint operators in the Clifford setting, the literature has often referred to the right spectrum. However, a more comprehensive approach is provided by the theory of the $S$-spectrum, which is the appropriate notion for general operators on Clifford modules. In this work, we show that this theory is particularly well suited for bisectorial Clifford operators. By using the $S$-spectrum, which naturally contains the right eigenvalues, we prove bisectorial estimates for the $S$-resolvent associated with the spinor Dirac operator under various boundary conditions.

Generalized partial-slice monogenic functions: the octonionic case

In a recent paper [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 378 (2025), 851-883], the concept of generalized partial-slice monogenic (or regular) function was introduced over Clifford algebras. The present paper shall extend the study of generalized partial-slice monogenic functions from the associative case of Clifford algebras to non-associative alternative algebras, such as octonions. The new class of functions encompasses the regular functions [Rend. Sem. Mat. Univ. Padova 50 (1973), 251-267] and slice regular functions [Rocky Mountain J. Math. 40 (2010), no. 1, 225-241] over octonions, indeed both appear in the theory as special cases. In the non-associative setting of octonions, we shall develop some fundamental properties such as identity theorem, Representation Formula, Cauchy (and Cauchy-Pompeiu) integral formula, maximum modulus principle, Fueter polynomials, Taylor series expansion. As a complement, the paper also introduces and discusses the notion of generalized partial-slice (and regular) functions. Although the study is limited to the case of octonions, it is clear from the statements and the arguments in the proofs that the results hold more in general in real alternative algebras equipped with a notion of conjugation.

Octonionic Riesz-Dunford functional calculus

The Riesz-Dunford functional calculus over the algebra of octonions, denoted by $\mathbb{O}$, has long been an open problem due to the nonassociativity of octonions. Two core obstacles hinder its development: first, the generalization of the resolvent operator series identity produces unexpected associator terms that invalidate standard expansions; second, the nonassociativity spoils the analyticity of the resolvent operator, a key property for defining a functional calculus via Cauchy integrals. In this paper, we initiate the study of the Riesz-Dunford functional calculus for bounded power-associative para-linear operators in Banach octonionic bimodules. To address the above issues, we introduce several pivotal concepts: power-associative operators (to eliminate the unwanted associator terms and recover valid resolvent series expansions), the notions of regular inverse of $R_s-T$ for $s\in Ø$ (which serve as the octonionic versions of the resolvent operator), $\mathbb{C}_J$-extendable power-associative operators, and $\mathbb{C}_J$-liftable power-associative operators (to characterize the slice regularity of the resolvent operators). Based on these notions, we define two types of octonionic spectra: the pull-back spectrum $σ^*(T)$ and the push-forward spectrum $σ_*(T)$. These give rise to the left and right slice regular functional calculi of bounded power-associative para-linear operators, respectively. This theory unifies the Riesz-Dunford functional calculus over division algebras ($ \mathbb{C}, \mathbb{H}, \mathbb{O}$) and fills the six-decade-long gap in octonionic (nonassociative) functional analysis.

On the Fueter-Sce theorem and Cauchy-Kovalevskaya extensions over alternative $\ast$-algebras

Recently, the concept of generalized partial-slice monogenic (or regular) functions has been introduced and studied over Clifford algebras and octonions, respectively. In this paper, we further develop the theory of generalized partial-slice monogenic functions defined on hypercomplex subspaces and with values in a real alternative $\ast$-algebra and we concentrate on the Fueter-Sce theorem, three types of Cauchy-Kovalevskaya extensions, and their various internal relationships. The paper proposes more bridges between the theories of monogenicity, harmonicity, and generalized partial-slice monogenicity.

On the approximation of Weierstrass function via superoscillations

The Weierstrass function is a classic example of a continuous nowhere differentiable function, defined as a sum of high-frequency complex exponentials. In this paper, we follow a suggestion of M.V. Berry and study the convergence properties of Berry's superoscillating approximation to the truncated Weierstrass function. We provide sharp, explicit error estimates for this approximation and we analyze the subtle convergence properties of the associated double limits.

Octonionic Para-linear Self-Adjoint Operators and Spectral Decomposition

This paper presents a groundbreaking advancement in the theory of operators defined on octonionic Hilbert spaces, successfully resolving a fundamental challenge that has persisted for over six decades. Due to the intrinsic non-associative nature of octonions, conventional linear operator theory encounters profound structural difficulties. We make use of an original conceptual framework termed para-linearity, an innovative generalization of linearity that naturally accommodates the octonionic algebraic structure. Within this newly established paradigm, we systematically develop an appropriate algebraic setting by defining a carefully designed operator algebra and an adjoint operation which, together, recapture essential analytic properties previously inaccessible in this context. We identify a geometric structure, the slice cone, as the fundamental object encoding spectral properties typically derived through sesquilinear forms. We obtain a rigorous characterization of self-adjointness which indicates how to introduce a new notion of strong eigenvalues. For every compact, para-linear, self-adjoint operator with strong eigenvalues, we can establish the spectral decomposition theorem and functional calculi.

Convergence domains of sedenionic star-power series

The theory of slice regular (also called hyperholomorphic) functions is a generalization of complex analysis originally given in the quaternionic framework, and then further extended to Clifford algebras, octonions, and to real alternative algebras. Recently, we have extended this theory to the case of (real) even-dimensional Euclidean space. We provided several tools for studying slice regular functions in this context, such as a path-representation formula, slice-solutions, hyper-solutions and hyper-sigma balls. When adding an algebra structure to Euclidean space we have more properties related to the possibility of multiplying elements in the algebra. In this paper, we focus on exploring the properties specific to the context of the algebra of sedenions which is rather peculiar, being the algebra non associative and non alternative. The consideration of a non alternative algebra is a novelty in the context of slice regularity which opens the way to a number of further progresses. We offer an explicit characterization for slice-solutions and hyper-solutions, and we determine the convergence domain of the power series in the form $q\mapsto\sum_{n\in\mathbb{N}}(q-p)^{*n}a_n$ with sedenionic coefficients. Unlike the case of complex numbers and quaternions, the convergence domain in this context is determined by two convergence radii instead of one. These results are closely tied to the presence of zero divisors in the algebra of sedenions.

The Corona Problem for Slice Hyperholomorphic Functions

This paper addresses the Corona problem for slice hyperholomorphic functions for a single quaternionic variable. While the Corona problem is well-understood in the context of one complex variable, it remains highly challenging in the case of several complex variables. The extension of the theory of one complex variable to several complex variables is not the only possible extension to multi-dimensional complex analysis. Instead of functions holomorphic in each variable separately, in this paper we will consider functions in some hypercomplex algebras, in particular in the algebra of quaternions. Previously, the Corona problem had not been studied within the hypercomplex framework because of challenges posed by pointwise multiplication, which is not closed for hypercomplex-valued analytic functions. Alternative notions of multiplication that are closed often compromise other desirable properties, further complicating the analysis. In this work, we resolve the Corona problem within the quaternionic slice hyperholomorphic setting. Our approach involves reformulating the quaternionic Bezout equation with respect to the appropriate multiplication into a new system of Bezout equations on the unit disc. We solve this system by adapting Wolff's proof of the Corona theorem for bounded analytic functions. As the number of generators increases, the associated algebra grows increasingly intricate.

The $S$-resolvent estimates for the Dirac operator on hyperbolic and spherical spaces

This seminal paper marks the beginning of our investigation into on the spectral theory based on $S$-spectrum applied to the Dirac operator on manifolds. Specifically, we examine in detail the cases of the Dirac operator $\mathcal{D}_H$ on hyperbolic space and the Dirac operator $\mathcal{D}_S$ on the spherical space, where these operators, and their squares $\mathcal{D}_H^2$ and $\mathcal{D}_S^2$, can be written in a very explicit form. This fact is very important for the application of the spectral theory on the $S$-spectrum. In fact, let $T$ denote a (right) linear Clifford operator, the $S$-spectrum is associated with a second-order polynomial in the operator $T$, specifically the operator defined as $ Q_s(T) := T^2 - 2s_0T + |s|^2. $ This allows us to associate to the Dirac operator boundary conditions that can be of Dirichlet type but also of Robin-like type. Moreover, our theory is not limited to Hilbert modules; it is applicable to Banach modules as well. The spectral theory based on the $S$-spectrum has gained increasing attention in recent years, particularly as it aims to provide quaternionic quantum mechanics with a solid mathematical foundation from the perspective of spectral theory. This theory was extended to Clifford operators, and more recently, the spectral theorem has been adapted to this broader context. The $S$-spectrum is crucial for defining the so-called $S$-functional calculus for quaternionic and Clifford operators in various forms. This includes bounded as well as unbounded operators, where suitable estimates of sectorial and bi-sectorial type for the $S$-resolvent operator are essential for the convergence of the Dunford integrals in this setting.

Generalized partial-slice monogenic functions

The two function theories of monogenic and of slice monogenic functions have been extensively studied in the literature and were developed independently; the relations between them, e.g. via Fueter mapping and Radon transform, have been studied. The main purpose of this article is to describe a new function theory which includes both of them as special cases. This theory allows to prove nice properties such as the identity theorem, a Representation Formula, the Cauchy (and Cauchy-Pompeiu) integral formula, the maximum modulus principle, a version of the Taylor and Laurent series expansions. As a complement, we shall also offer two approaches to these functions via slice functions and via global differential operators. In addition, we discuss the conformal invariance property under a proper group of Möbius transformations preserving the partial symmetry of the involved domains.

Segal-Bargmann transform for generalized partial-slice monogenic functions

The concept of generalized partial-slice monogenic functions has been recently introduced to include the two theories of monogenic functions and of slice monogenic functions over Clifford algebras. The main purpose of this article is to develop the Segal-Bargmann transform and give a Schrödinger representation in the setting of generalized partial-slice monogenic functions. To this end, the generalized partial-slice Cauchy-Kovalevskaya extension plays a crucial role.

An introduction to the fine structures on the $S$-spectrum

Holomorphic functions are fundamental in operator theory and their Cauchy formula is a crucial tool for defining functions of operators. The Fueter-Sce extension theorem (often called Fueter-Sce mapping theorem) provides a two-step procedure for extending holomorphic functions to hyperholomorphic functions. In the first step, slice hyperholomorphic functions are obtained, and their associated Cauchy formula establishes the $S$-functional calculus for noncommuting operators on the $S$-spectrum. The second step produces axially monogenic functions, which lead to the development of the monogenic functional calculus. In this review paper we discuss the second operator in the Fueter-Sce mapping theorem that takes slice hyperholomorphic to axially monogenic functions. This operator admits several factorizations which generate various function spaces and their corresponding functional calculi, thereby forming the so-called fine structures of spectral theories on the $S$-spectrum.

Weak slice regular functions on the $n$-dimensional quadratic cone of octonions

In the literature on slice analysis in the hypercomplex setting, there are two main approaches to define slice regular functions in one variable: one consists in requiring that the restriction to any complex plane is holomorphic (with the same complex structure of the complex plane), the second one makes use of stem and slice functions. So far, in the setting of several hypercomplex variables, only the second approach has been considered, i.e. the one based on stem functions. In this paper, we use instead the first definition on the so-called $n$-dimensional quadratic cone of octonions. These two approaches yield the same class of slice regular functions on axially symmetric slice-domains, however, they are different on other types of domains. We call this new class of functions weak slice regular. We show that there exist weak slice regular functions which are not slice regular in the second approach. Moreover, we study various properties of these functions, including a Taylor expansion.

Domains of existence of slice regular functions in one quaternionic variable

Recently, we introduced domains of slice regularity in the space $\mathbb{H}$ of quaternions and also proved that domains of slice regularity satisfy a symmetry with respect to paths, called $2$-path-symmetry. In this paper, we give a full characterization by showing that all $2$-path-symmetric slice-open sets are domains of slice regularity. In fact, we will prove a counterpart of the Cartan-Thullen theorem for slice regular functions, namely that a slice-open set is a domain of existence for some slice regular function if and only if it is a domain of slice regularity, if and only if it is slice-regularly convex, if and only if it is $2$-path-symmetric. As a tool, we also prove an interpolation theorem of independent interest.

Aharonov-Bohm effect and superoscillations

The path-integral technique in quantum mechanics provides an intuitive framework for comprehending particle propagation and scattering. Calculating the propagator for the Aharonov-Bohm potential fits into the range of potentials in multiply-connected spaces, with the propagator represented through a series expansion. In this paper, we analyze the Schrödinger evolution of superoscillations, showing the supershift properties of the solution to the Schrödinger equation for this potential. Our proof is based on the continuity of particular infinite order differential operators acting on spaces of entire functions.
