An Abstract Perturbation Theorem for Compact Moduli Spaces

Given a compact zero set of a Fredholm section, our theorem guarantees the existence of a perturbed compact smooth manifold nearby, leaving the original zero set unaltered wherever transversality is already achieved. Such abstract perturbations allow for typical cobordism arguments. We illustrate this by re-proving a well-known theorem of Schwarz asserting the existence of critical points of the Hamiltonian action functional of different action values on symplectically aspherical manifolds.

Families of periodic delay orbits

We construct and analyze families of periodic delay orbits for a class of delay differential equations in two dimensions depending on two real-valued functions. These families are parametrized by the delay parameter. It is possible to represent the dependency of these periodic delay orbits on the delay parameter by a curve in the plane, without loss of information. It turns out that the singularities of these curves necessarily are cusps in the non-degenerate case. After discussing degenerate situations in general, we explain how to glue different families of periodic delay orbits at degeneracies in the delay parameter.

Periodic delay orbits and the polyfold implicit function theorem

We consider differential delay equations of the form $\partial_tx(t) = X_{t}(x(t - τ))$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$, where $(X_t)_{t\in S^1}$ is a time-dependent family of smooth vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $τ$ is a delay parameter. If there is a (suitably non-degenerate) periodic solution $x_0$ of this equation for $τ=0$, that is without delay, there are good reasons to expect existence of a family of periodic solutions for all sufficiently small delays, smoothly parametrized by delay. However, it seems difficult to prove this using the classical implicit function theorem, since the equation above is not smooth in the delay parameter. In this paper, we show how to use the M-polyfold implicit function theorem by Hofer-Wysocki-Zehnder [HWZ09, HWZ17] to overcome this problem in a natural setup.

A Polyfold proof of Gromov's Non-squeezing Theorem

We re-prove Gromov's non-squeezing theorem by applying Polyfold Theory to a simple Gromov-Witten moduli space. Thus we demonstrate how to utilize the work of Hofer-Wysocki-Zehnder to give proofs involving moduli spaces of pseudoholomorphic curves that are relatively short and broadly accessible, while also fully detailed and rigorous. We moreover review the polyfold description of Gromov-Witten moduli spaces in the relevant case of spheres with minimal energy and one marked point.
