Multiplicity-induced-dominancy for delay-differential equations of retarded type

An important question of ongoing interest for linear time-delay systems is to provide conditions on its parameters guaranteeing exponential stability of solutions. Recent works have explored spectral techniques to show that, for some low-order delay-differential equations of retarded type, spectral values of maximal multiplicity are dominant, and hence determine the asymptotic behavior of the system, a property known as multiplicity-induced-dominancy. This work further explores such a property and shows its validity for general linear delay-differential equations of retarded type of arbitrary order including a single delay in the system's representation. More precisely, an interesting link between characteristic functions with a real root of maximal multiplicity and Kummer's confluent hypergeometric functions is exploited. We also provide examples illustrating our main result.

Effects of Roots of Maximal Multiplicity on the Stability of Some Classes of Delay Differential-Algebraic Systems: The Lossless Propagation Case

It has been observed in several recent works that, for some classes of linear time-delay systems, spectral values of maximal multiplicity are dominant, a property known as multiplicity-induced-dominancy (MID). This paper starts the investigation of whether MID holds for delay differential-algebraic systems by considering a single-delay system composed of two scalar equations. After motivating this problem and recalling some recent results for retarded delay differential equations, we prove that the MID property holds for the delay differential-algebraic system of interest and present some applications.

Spectral dominance of complex roots for single-delay linear equations

This paper provides necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a pair of complex conjugate roots, each of multiplicity two, in the spectrum of a linear time-invariant single-delay equation of retarded type. This pair of roots is also shown to be always strictly dominant, determining thus the asymptotic behavior of the system. The proof of this result is based on the corresponding result for real roots of multiplicity four, continuous dependence of roots with respect to parameters, and the study of crossing imaginary roots. We also present how this design can be applied to vibration suppression and flexible mode compensation.

On qualitative properties of single-delay linear retarded differential equations: Characteristic roots of maximal multiplicity are necessarily dominant

This paper presents necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a real root of maximal multiplicity in the spectrum of a linear time-invariant single-delay equation of retarded type. We also prove that this root is always strictly dominant, and hence determines the asymptotic behavior of the system. These results are based on improved a priori bounds on the imaginary part of roots on the complex right half-plane.

Dynamics of a prey-predator system with modified Leslie-Gower and Holling type II schemes incorporating a prey refuge

We study a modified version of a prey-predator system with modified Leslie-Gower and Holling type II functional response studied by M.A. Aziz-Alaoui and M. Daher-Okiye. The modification consists in incorporating a refuge for preys, and substantially complicates the dynamics of the system. We study the local and global dynamics and the existence of cycles. We also investigate conditions for extinction or existence of a stationary distribution, in the case of a stochastic perturbation of the system.

Complexity reduction of C-algorithm

The C-Algorithm introduced in [Chouikha2007] is designed to determine isochronous centers for Lienard-type differential systems, in the general real analytic case. However, it has a large complexity that prevents computations, even in the quartic polynomial case. The main result of this paper is an efficient algorithmic implementation of C-Algorithm, called ReCA (Reduced C-Algorithm). Moreover, an adapted version of it is proposed in the rational case. It is called RCA (Rational C-Algorithm) and is widely used in [BardetBoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010] and [BoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010] to find many new examples of isochronous centers for the Liénard type equation.

Isochronicity conditions for some planar polynomial systems II

We study the isochronicity of centers at $O\in \mathbb{R}^2$ for systems $$\dot x=-y+A(x,y),\;\dot y=x+B(x,y),$$ where $A,\;B\in \mathbb{R}[x,y]$, which can be reduced to the Liénard type equation. When $deg(A)\leq 4$ and $deg(B) \leq 4$, using the so-called C-algorithm we found $36$ new families of isochronous centers. When the Urabe function $h=0$ we provide an explicit general formula for linearization. This paper is a direct continuation of \cite{BoussaadaChouikhaStrelcyn2010} but can be read independantly.

Isochronicity conditions for some planar polynomial systems

We study the isochronicity of centers at $O\in \mathbb{R}^2$ for systems $\dot x=-y+A(x,y), \dot y=x+B(x,y)$, where $A, B\in \mathbb{R}[x,y]$, which can be reduced to the Lienard type equation. Using the so-called C-algorithm we have found 27 new multiparameter isochronous centers.

Isochronicity conditions for some real polynomial systems

This paper focuses on isochronicity of linear center perturbed by a polynomial. Isochronicity of a linear center perturbed by a degree four and degree five polynomials is studied, several new isochronous centers are found. For homogeneous isochronous perturbations, a first integral and a linearizing change of coordinates are presented. Moreover, a family of Abel polynomial systems is also considered. By investigations until degree 10 we prove the existence of a unique isochronous center. These results are established using a computer implementation based on Urabe theorem.

On the existence of periodic solution of perturbed generalized Liénard equations

Under conditions of Levinson-Smith type, we prove the existence of a $τ$-periodic solution for the perturbed generalized Liénard equation u''+ϕ(u,u')u'+ψ(u)=εω(\frac{t}τ,u,u') with periodic forcing term. Also we deduce sufficient condition for existence of a periodic solution for the equation u''+\sum_{k=0}^{2s+1} p_k(u){u'}^k=εω(\frac{t}τ,u,u'). Our method can be applied also to the equation u''+[u^2+(u+u')^2-1]u'+u=εω(\frac{t}τ,u,u'). The results obtained are illustrated with numerical examples.
