A Quantum Neural Network Transfer-Learning Model for Forecasting Problems with Continuous and Discrete Variables

This study introduces simple yet effective continuous- and discrete-variable quantum neural network (QNN) models as a transfer-learning approach for forecasting tasks. The CV-QNN features a single quantum layer with two qubits to establish entanglement and utilizes a minimal set of quantum gates, including displacement, rotation, beam splitter, squeezing, and a non-Gaussian cubic-phase gate, with a maximum of eight trainable parameters. A key advantage of this model is its ability to be trained on a single dataset, after which the learned parameters can be transferred to other forecasting problems with little to no fine-tuning. Initially trained on the Kurdistan load demand dataset, the model's frozen parameters are successfully applied to various forecasting tasks, including energy consumption, traffic flow, weather conditions, and cryptocurrency price prediction, demonstrating strong performance. Furthermore, the study introduces a discrete-variable quantum model with an equivalent 2- and 4-wire configuration and presents a performance assessment, showing good but relatively lower effectiveness compared to the continuous-variable model.

Enhancing Grover's Search Algorithm: A Modified Approach to Increase the Probability of Good States

This article introduces an enhancement to the Grover search algorithm to speed up computing the probability of finding good states. It suggests incorporating a rotation phase angle determined mathematically from the derivative of the model during the initial iteration. At each iteration, a new phase angle is computed and used in a rotation gate around y+z axis in the diffusion operator. The computed phase angles are optimized through an adaptive adjustment based on the estimated increasing ratio of the consecutive amplitudes. The findings indicate an average decrease of 28% in the required number of iterations resulting in a faster overall process and fewer number of quantum gates. For large search space, this improvement rises to 29.58%. Given the computational capabilities of the computer utilized for the simulation, the approach is applied to instances with up to 12 qubits or 4096 possible combination of search entries.

An Open Source Simulink Based Program for Simulating Power Systems Integrated with Renewable Energy Sources

This paper presents an open source Simulink based program developed for simulating power systems integrated with renewable energy sources (RES). The generic model of a photovoltaic, wind turbine, and battery energy storage is used for the RES. The program can be used for educational and research studies. It comes with several important subjects in power systems including power system modeling and integration, linearization, modal analysis, participation factor analysis, controller selection using residue analysis, and frequency response analysis. IEEE 68 bus dynamic test system is used to verify the performance of the program. The results show the efficiency and speed of the program to simulate a large scale modern power system.
