Scalar Unparticle Signals at the LHC

If the scale invariance exists in nature, the so-called unparticle physics may become part of reality. The only way to refute or confirm this idea is through the experiments one of which is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). One of the peculiar properties of the unparticle stuff is that it gives striking multi-photon signals which has been studied through only the unparticle self-interactions. By considering not only the self-interactions of unparticles but also all the other possible contributions, which are dominant, a detailed study of the processes, within a scalar unparticle scenario, $pp\to 4\gamma$, $pp\to 2\gamma 2g$, $pp\to 2\gamma 2\ell$, $pp\to 4e$, $pp\to 4\mu$ and $pp\to 2e2\mu$ at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV at the LHC is carried out. We use basic selection cuts and analyze various distributions to discriminate the signals over the Standard Model backgrounds and discuss what seems to be the most likely channel among the above ones for an indirect manifestation of unparticle effects. We follow a new approach to tackle the issue with the three-point correlation function for the scalar unparticle self-interactions. We also obtain the exclusion region in the unparticle parameter space from the available two-photon data of the LHC.

CPT-odd Photon in Vacuum-Orthogonal Model

Lorentz and CPT violation in the photon sector with the operators of arbitrary mass dimension has been proposed in the context of Standard-Model Extension. The CPT-odd subset of this enlarged model is investigated from a quantum-field theoretical point of view. The generic forms of dispersion relations, polarization vectors and the propagators are obtained for this special subset. Particularly, the general vacuum-orthogonal model is analyzed and it is demonstrated that the vacuum orthogonal model remains vacuum orthogonal at all orders. Although the model has birefringent solutions, they are shown to be spurious. Furthermore, the relevant polarization vectors are shown to be conventional. Leading order model is explicitly analyzed and it is demonstrated that there exists a nontrivial coefficient space satisfying above properties.

Higgs Bosons in supersymmetric U(1)' models with CP Violation

We study the Higgs sector of the U(1)'-extended MSSM with CP violation. This is an extension of the MSSM Higgs sector by one singlet field, introduced to generate the \mu term dynamically. We are particularly interested in non-standard decays of Higgs particles, especially of the lightest one, in the presence of CP violating phases for \mu_{eff} and the soft parameters. We present analytical expressions for neutral and charged Higgs bosons masses at tree and one-loop levels, including contributions from top and bottom scalar quark sectors. We then study the production and decay channels of the neutral Higgs for a set of benchmark points consistent with low energy data and relic density constraints. Numerical simulations show that a Higgs boson lighter than 2m_W can decay in a quite distinctive manner, including invisible modes into two neutralinos (h->\chi^0\chi^0) up to 50% of the time, when kinematically allowed. The branching ratio into h->bb, the dominant decay in the SM, is reduced in some U(1)' models and enhanced in others, while the branching ratios for the decays h -> \tau+ \tau-, h -> WW^* and h -> Z Z^*-> 4l are always reduced with respect to their SM expectations. This possibility has important implications for testing the U(1)' model both at the LHC and later at the ILC.

Neutralino and Chargino Production in U(1)' at the LHC

We examine the production and the decay modes of neutralinos and charginos in a softly-broken supersymmetric model with an extra Abelian symmetry U(1)'. We perform the study in a U(1)' model with a secluded sector, where the tension between the electroweak scale and developing a large enough mass for Z' is resolved by incorporating three additional SU(2) singlet fields into the model. Although the chargino sector is the same as in the MSSM, the neutralino sector of the model is very rich: five new fermion fields are added to the neutral sector bring the total neutralino states to nine. We implement the model into standard packages and perform a detailed and systematic analysis of production and decay modes at the LHC, for three different scenarios, and concentrating on final signals (1) 1 lepton+jets +MET, (2) 2 leptons+jets +MET and (3) 3 lepton+0jets +MET, and comment on the case with 0 lepton+jets +MET. We discuss backgrounds and indicate how these signals can be observed, and how the model can be distinguished from other supersymmetric model scenarios.

Constraining Extra Neutral Gauge Bosons with Atomic Parity Violation Measurements

The discovery of a new neutral gauge boson, $Z'$, could provide the first concrete evidence of physics beyond the standard model. We explore how nuclear weak charge measurements in atomic parity violation (APV) experiments can be used to constrain $Z'$ bosons. We use the recent measurement of the $^{133}$Cs nuclear weak charge to estimate lower bounds on the mass of $Z'$ bosons for a number of representative models and to put constraints on the couplings of a newly discovered $Z'$ boson. We also consider how these constraints might be improved by future APV experiments that will measure nuclear weak charges of multiple isotopes. We show how measurements of a single isotope, and combining measurements into ratios and differences, can be used to constrain the couplings of a $Z'$ and discriminate between models. We find that current and future APV experiments could potentially play an important role in unravelling new physics if a $Z'$ were discovered.

Top Quark Pair Production and Asymmetry at the Tevatron and LHC in Left-Right Models

In light of the recent measurements of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron experiment, which in some regions of the parameter space shows a discrepancy of 3$\sigma$ compared to the SM prediction, we analyze top quark pair production and asymmetry in the context of left-right models both at the Tevatron and LHC. We use the minimal manifest left-right model and an asymmetric left-right model where gauge couplings and flavor mixing in the right-handed sector are allowed to differ from those in the left-handed sector. We explore the consequences of including effects from $W_R$ and $Z_R$ gauge bosons, consistent with phenomenological constraints from meson mixing and new bounds from ATLAS and CMS, for the $t \bar{t}$ cross section, invariant mass distribution and forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron, and predict their values at the LHC. We show that, choosing parameter benchmarks for the model while preserving agreement with collider, electroweak precision, and flavor violation data, the generic left-right model cannot account for the large deviations of the observed asymmetry at the Tevatron and also that it predicts very small charge asymmetries at the LHC.

Scalar Neutrinos at the LHC

We study a softly-broken supersymmetric model whose gauge symmetry is that of the standard model (SM) gauge group times an extra Abelian symmetry U(1)'. We call this gauge-extended model U(1)' model, and we study a U(1)' model with a secluded sector such that neutrinos acquire Dirac masses via higher-dimensional terms allowed by the U(1)' invariance. In this model the mu term of the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM) is dynamically induced by the vacuum expectation value of a singlet scalar. In addition, the model contains exotic particles necessary for anomaly cancellation, and extra singlet bosons for achieving correct Z'/Z mass hierarchy. The neutrinos are charged under U(1)', and thus, their production and decay channels differ from those in the MSSM in strength and topology. We implement the model into standard packages and perform a detailed analysis of sneutrino production and decay at the Large Hadron Collider, for various mass scenarios, concentrating on three types of signals: (1) 0lep+ MET,(2) 2lep+MET, and (3) 4lep + MET. We compare the results with those of the MSSM whenever possible, and analyze the SM background for each signal. The sneutrino production and decays provide clear signatures enabling distinction of the U(1)' model from the MSSM at the LHC.

Production and Decays of $W_R$ bosons at the LHC

With the advent of the LHC, it is important to devise clear tests for Physics Beyond the Standard Model. Such physics could manifest itself in the form of new charged bosons, whose presence is most naturally occurring in left-right symmetric models (LRSM). We analyze the single $W_R$ boson production in an asymmetric left-right model, where the left and right quark mixing matrices are not constrained to be equal. We investigate the cross sections as well as branching ratios of $W_R$ bosons at the LHC, including constraints from low energy phenomenology. We then look for most likely signals in $pp \to W_R\ t \to t ~(dijet)$ production. Including the background, we find that LHC could show significant signals for the new charged bosons. We compare our results throughout with the manifest left-right symmetric model and comment on similarities and differences.

B Decays in an Asymmetric Left-Right Model

Motivated by recently observed disagreements with the SM predictions in $B$ decays, we study $b \to d, s$ transitions in an asymmetric class of $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}$ models, with a simple one-parameter structure of the right handed mixing matrix for the quarks, which obeys the constraints from kaon physics. We use experimental constraints on the branching ratios of $b \to s \gamma$, $b \to c e {\bar \nu}_e$, and $B_{d,s}^0 -\bar{B}^0_{d,s}$ mixing to restrict the parameters of the model: $\displaystyle {g_R}/{g_L}, M_{W_2}, M_{H^\pm}, \tan \beta$ as well as the elements of the right-handed quark mixing matrix $V^R_{CKM}$. We present a comparison with the more commonly used (manifest) left-right symmetric model. Our analysis exposes the parameters most sensitive to $b$ transitions and reveals a large parameter space where left- and right-handed quarks mix differently, opening the possibility of observing marked differences in behaviour between the standard model and the left-right model.

Collider Effects of Unparticle Interactions in Multiphoton Signals

A new model of physics, with a hidden conformal sector which manifests itself as an unparticle coupling to Standard Model particles effectively through higher dimensional operators, predicts strong collider signals due to unparticle self-interactions. We perform a complete analysis of the most spectacular of these signals at the hadron collider, pp -> 4photon and pp ->2photon,2gluon. These processes can go through the three-point unparticle self interactions as well as through some s and t channel diagrams with one and/or two unparticle exchanges. We study the contributions of individual diagrams classified with respect to the number of unparticle exchanges and discuss their effect on the cross sections at the Tevatron and the LHC. We also restrict the Tevatron bound on the unknown coefficient of the three-point unparticle correlator. With the availability of data from Tevatron, and the advent of the data emerging from the LHC, these interactions can provide a clear and strong indication of unparticle physics and distinguish this model from other beyond the standard model scenarios.

Sneutrino Dark Matter: Symmetry Protection and Cosmic Ray Anomalies

We present an R-parity conserving model of sneutrino dark matter within a Higgs-philic U(1)' extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In this theory, the mu parameter and light Dirac neutrino masses are generated naturally upon the breaking of the U(1)' gauge symmetry. The leptonic and hadronic decays of sneutrinos in this model, taken to be the lightest and next-to-lightest superpartners, allow for a natural fit to the recent results reported by the PAMELA experiment.

Doubly Charged Higgsinos at Tevatron

Several supersymmetric models with extended gauge structures, motivated by either grand unification or by neutrino mass generation, predict light doubly-charged Higgsinos. In this work we study the signals of doubly-charged Higgsinos at the Tevatron in both pair-- and single--production modes, and show that it is possible, especially from the events containing same-sign same-flavor isolated leptons, to disentangle the effects of doubly-charged Higgsinos in the Tevatron data.

Search for Gauge Extensions of the MSSM at the LHC

The extensions of the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM), driving mainly from the need to solve the μproblem, involve novel matter species and gauge groups. These extended MSSM models can be searched for at the LHC via the effects of the gauge and Higgs bosons or their fermionic partners. Traditionally, the focus has been on the study of the extra forces induced by the new gauge and Higgs bosons present in such models. An alternative way of studying such effects is through the superpartners of matter species and the gauge forces. We thus consider a $U(1)^\prime$ gauge extension of the MSSM, and perform an extensive study of the signatures of the model through the production and decays of the scalar quarks and gluino, which are expected to be produced copiously at the LHC. After a detailed study of the distinctive features of such models with regard to the signatures at the LHC, we carry out a detailed Monte Carlo analysis of the signals from the process pp-> n leptons + m jets + EMT, and compare the resulting distributions with those predicted by the MSSM. Our results show that the searches for the extra gauge interactions in the supersymmetric framework can proceed not only through the forces mediated by the gauge and Higgs bosons but also through the superpartner forces mediated by the gauge and Higgs fermions. Analysis of the events induced by the squark/gluino decays presented here is complementary to the direct Z' searches at the LHC.

The Casimir Force in Randall Sundrum Models with q+1 dimensions

We evaluate the Casimir force between two parallel plates in Randall Sundrum (RS) scenarios extended by q compact dimensions. After giving exact expressions for one extra compact dimension (RS 6D model), we generalize to an arbitrary number of compact dimensions. We present the complete calculation for both two brane scenario (RSI model) and one brane scenario (RSII models) using the method of summing over the modes. We investigate the effects of extra dimensions on the magnitude and sign of the force, and comment on limits for the size and number of the extra dimensions.

Signals of Doubly-Charged Higgsinos at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Several supersymmetric models with extended gauge structures, motivated by either grand unification or by neutrino mass generation, predict light doubly-charged Higgsinos. In this work we study productions and decays of doubly-charged Higgsinos present in left-right supersymmetric models, and show that they invariably lead to novel collider signals not found in the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM) or in any of its extensions motivated by the μproblem or even in extra dimensional theories. We investigate their distinctive signatures at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in both pair-- and single--production modes, and show that they are powerful tools in determining the underlying model via the measurements at the LHC experiments.

Production of Single Heavy Charged Leptons at a Linear Collider

A sequential fourth generation of quarks and leptons is allowed by precision electroweak constraints if the mass splitting between the heavy quarks is between 50 and 80 GeV. Although heavy quarks can be easily detected at the LHC, it is very difficult to detect a sequential heavy charged lepton, L, due to large backgrounds. Should the L mass be above 250 GeV, it can not be pair-produced at a 500 GeV ILC. We calculate the cross section for the one-loop process e+e- -> L tau. Although the cross section is small, it may be detectable. We also consider contributions from the two Higgs doublet model and the Randall-Sundrum model, in which case the cross section can be substantially higher.

The Integrability of Pauli System in Lorentz Violating Background

We systematically analyze the integrability of a Pauli system in Lorentz violating background at the non-relativistic level both in two- and three-dimensions. We consider the non-relativistic limit of the Dirac equation from the QED sector of the so-called Standard Model Extension by keeping only two types of background couplings, the vector a_mu and the axial vector b_mu. We show that the spin-orbit interaction comes as a higher order correction in the non-relativistic limit of the Dirac equation. Such an interaction allows the inclusion of spin degree non-trivially, and if Lorentz violating terms are allowed, they might be comparable under special circumstances. By including all possible first-order derivative terms and considering the cases a\ne 0, b\ne 0, and b_0\ne 0 one at a time, we determine the possible forms of constants of motion operator, and discuss the existence or continuity of integrability due to Lorentz violating background.
