Curvature structure of self-dual 4-manifolds

We show the existence of a modified Cliff(1,1) structure compatible with an Osserman 0-model of signature (2,2). We then apply this algebraic result to certain classes of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of signature (2,2). We obtain a new characterization of the Weyl curvature tensor of an (anti-)self-dual manifold and we prove some new results regarding (Jordan) Osserman manifolds.

(Semi-)Riemannian geometry of (para-)octonionic projective planes

We use reduced homogeneous coordinates to study Riemannian geometry of the octonionic (or Cayley) projective plane. Our method extends to the para-octonionic (or split octonionic) projective plane, the octonionic projective plane of indefinite signature, and the hyperbolic dual of the octonionic projective plane; we discuss these manifolds in the later sections of the paper.

Vector bundles over Grassmannians and the skew-symmetric curvature operator

A pseudo-Riemannian manifold is said to be spacelike Jordan IP if the Jordan normal form of the skew-symmetric curvature operator depends upon the point of the manifold, but not upon the particular spacelike 2-plane in the tangent bundle at that point. We use methods of algebraic topology to classify connected spacelike Jordan IP pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of signature $(p,q)$, where $q\ge 11$, $p\le \frac{q-6}{4}$ and where the set $\{q, . . ., q+p\}$ does not contain a power of 2.

Locally Isotropic Pseudo-Riemannian Manifolds

Locally isotropic pseudo-Riemannian manifolds are known to be locally symmetric; this result is due to Wolf. In the Riemannian setting one proof, due to Szabó, uses spectral properties of the so-called Szabó operator. In this paper we extend Szabó's method to the pseudo-Riemannian setting, obtaining results comparable to those of Wolf. Most results concerning the Szabó operator in the pseudo-Riemannian setting are presented using methods of algebraic topology. This paper exploits the polynomial nature of the Szabó operator along with its behavior over the nullcone, both of which have received little attention this far.

Jordan Szabo algebraic covariant derivative curvature tensors

We show that if $\nabla R$ is a Jordan Szabo algebraic covariant derivative curvature tensor on a vector space of signature (p,q), where q is odd and p is less than q or if q is congruent to 2 mod 4 and if p is less than q-1, then $\nabla R=0$. This algebraic result yields an elementary proof of the geometrical fact that any pointwise totally isotropic pseudo-Riemannian manifold with such a signature (p,q) is locally symmetric.

Curvature tensors whose Jacobi or Szabo operator is nilpotent on null vectors

We show that any $k$ Osserman Lorentzian algebraic curvature tensor has constant sectional curvature and give an elementary proof that any local 2 point homogeneous Lorentzian manifold has constant sectional curvature. We also show that a Szabó Lorentzian covariant derivative algebraic curvature tensor vanishes.
