Systolic volume of homology classes

Given an integer homology class of a finitely presentable group, the systolic volume quantifies how tight could be a geometric realization of this class. In this paper, we study various aspects of this numerical invariant showing that it is a complex and powerful tool to investigate topological properties of homology classes of finitely presentable groups.

Sur la forme de la boule unité de la norme stable unidimensionnelle

For a Riemannian polyhedra, we study the geometry of the unit ball for the unidimensional stable norm (stable ball). In the case of a unidimensional Riemannian polyhedra (graph), we show that the stable ball is a polytope whose vertices are completely described by combinatorial properties of the graph. We study then the realizable forms as stable ball of Riemannan manifolds of dimension larger than three. For a Riemannian manifold $(M, g)$ fixed, we show that a broad class of polytopes can appear as stable ball of metrics in the conformal class of $g$. We use for that a polyhedral technique.

On nonformal simply connected symplectic manifolds

For any $N \geq 5$ nonformal simply connected symplectic manifolds of dimension $2N$ are constructed. This disproves the formality conjecture for simply connected symplectic manifolds which was introduced by Lupton and Oprea.

Volumes, middle-dimensional systoles, and Whitehead products

Let X be a closed manifold of dimension 2m >= 6 with torsion-free middle-dimensional homology. We construct metrics on X of arbitrarily small volume, such that every middle-dimensional submanifold of less than unit volume necessarily bounds. Thus, Loewner's theorem has no higher-dimensional analogue.
