A tree-level 3-point function in the su(3)-sector of planar N=4 SYM

We classify the 3-point functions of local gauge-invariant single-trace operators in the scalar sector of planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills involving at least one su(3) operator. In the case of two su(3) and one su(2) operators, the tree-level 3-point function can be expressed in terms of scalar products of su(3) Bethe vectors. Moreover, if the second level Bethe roots of one of the su(3) operators is trivial (set to infinity), this 3-point function can be written in a determinant form. Using the determinant representation, we evaluate the structure constant in the semi-classical limit, when the number of roots goes to infinity.

Inner products of Bethe states as partial domain wall partition functions

We study the inner product of Bethe states in the inhomogeneous periodic XXX spin-1/2 chain of length L, which is given by the Slavnov determinant formula. We show that the inner product of an on-shell M-magnon state with a generic M-magnon state is given by the same expression as the inner product of a 2M-magnon state with a vacuum descendent. The second inner product is proportional to the partition function of the six-vertex model on a rectangular Lx2M grid, with partial domain-wall boundary conditions.

Three-point function of semiclassical states at weak coupling

We give the derivation of the previously announced analytic expression for the correlation function of three heavy non-BPS operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory at weak coupling. The three operators belong to three different su(2) sectors and are dual to three classical strings moving on the sphere. Our computation is based on the reformulation of the problem in terms of the Bethe Ansatz for periodic XXX spin-1/2 chains. In these terms the three operators are described by long-wave-length excitations over the ferromagnetic vacuum, for which the number of the overturned spins is a finite fraction of the length of the chain, and the classical limit is known as the Sutherland limit. Technically our main result is a factorized operator expression for the scalar product of two Bethe states. The derivation is based on a fermionic representation of Slavnov's determinant formula, and a subsequent bosonisation.

Classical Limit of the Three-Point Function from Integrability

We give analytic expression for the three-point function of three large classical non-BPS operators N=4 Super-Yang-Mills theory at weak coupling. We restrict ourselves to operators belonging to an su(2) sector of the theory. In order to carry out the calculation we derive, by unveiling a hidden factorization property, the thermodynamical limit of Slavnov's determinant.

On the Yang-Lee and Langer singularities in the O(n) loop model

We use the method of `coupling to 2d QG' to study the analytic properties of the universal specific free energy of the O(n) loop model in complex magnetic field. We compute the specific free energy on a dynamical lattice using the correspondence with a matrix model. The free energy has a pair of Yang-Lee edges on the high-temperature sheet and a Langer type branch cut on the low-temperature sheet. Our result confirms a conjecture by A. and Al. Zamolodchikov about the decay rate of the metastable vacuum in presence of Liouville gravity and gives strong evidence about the existence of a weakly metastable state and a Langer branch cut in the O(n) loop model on a flat lattice. Our results are compatible with the Fonseca-Zamolodchikov conjecture that the Yang-Lee edge appears as the nearest singularity under the Langer cut.

CFT and topological recursion

We study the quasiclassical expansion associated with a complex curve. In a more specific context this is the 1/N expansion in U(N)-invariant matrix integrals. We compare two approaches, the CFT approach and the topological recursion, and show their equivalence. The CFT approach reformulates the problem in terms of a conformal field theory on a Riemann surface, while the topological recursion is based on a recurrence equation for the observables representing symplectic invariants on the complex curve. The two approaches lead to two different graph expansions, one of which can be obtained as a partial resummation of the other.

Matrix models as conformal field theories: genus expansion

We obtain the topological expansion of the hermitian matrix model using its representation as a CFT on a hyperelliptic Riemann surface. To each branch point of the Riemann surface we associate an operator which represents a twist field dressed by the modes of the twisted boson. The partition function of the matrix model is computed as a correlation function of such dressed twist fields. The perturbative construction of the dressing operators yields a set of Feynman rules for evaluating the free energy and the loop observables at any genus.

Boundary transitions of the O(n) model on a dynamical lattice

We study the anisotropic boundary conditions for the dilute O(n) loop model with the methods of 2D quantum gravity. We solve the problem exactly on a dynamical lattice using the correspondence with a large $N$ matrix model. We formulate the disk two-point functions with ordinary and anisotropic boundary conditions as loop correlators in the matrix model. We derive the loop equations for these correlators and find their explicit solution in the scaling limit. Our solution reproduces the boundary phase diagram and the boundary critical exponents obtained recently by Dubail, Jacobsen and Saleur, except for the cusp at the isotropic special transition point. Moreover, our solution describes the bulk and the boundary deformations away from the anisotropic special transitions. In particular it shows how the anisotropic special boundary conditions are deformed by the bulk thermal flow towards the dense phase.

Functional BES equation

We give a realization of the Beisert, Eden and Staudacher equation for the planar N=4 supersymetric gauge theory whichseems to be particularly useful to study the strong coupling limit. We use a linearized version of the BES equation as two coupled equations involving an auxiliary density function. We write these equations in terms of the resolvents and we transform them into to a system of functional, instead of integral, equations. We solve the functional equations perturbatively in the strong coupling limit and reproduce the recursive solution obtained by Basso, Korchemsky and Kotanski. The coefficients of the strong coupling expansion are fixed by the analyticity properties obeyed by the resolvents.

Boundary Loop Models and 2D Quantum Gravity

We study the O(n) loop model on a dynamically triangulated disk, with a new type of boundary conditions, discovered recently by Jacobsen and Saleur. The partition function of the model is that of a gas of self and mutually avoiding loops covering the disk. The Jacobsen-Saleur (JS) boundary condition prescribes that the loops that do not touch the boundary have fugacity n in [-2,2], while the loops touching at least once the boundary are given different fugacity y. The class of JS boundary conditions, labeled by the real number y, contains the Neumann (y=n) and Dirichlet (y=1) boundary conditions as particular cases. Here we consider the dense phase of the loop gas, where we compute the two-point boundary correlators of the L-leg operators with mixed Neumann-JS boundary condition. The result coincides with the boundary two-point function in Liouville theory, derived by Fateev, Zamolodchikov and Zamolodchikov. The Liouville charge of the boundary operators match, by the KPZ correspondence, with the L-leg boundary exponents conjectured by JS.

Long Strings and Chiral Non-Singlets in Matrix Quantum Mechanics

We study the non-singlet sectors of Matrix Quantum Mechanics in application to two-dimensional string theory. We use the chiral formalism, which operates directly with incoming and outgoing asymptotic states, related by a scattering operator. We give a prescription for evaluating the tree level non-singlet scattering amplitudes given the profile of the Fermi sea. In the case of a stationary Fermi sea our general formula for the adjoint representation reproduces Maldacena's scattering amplitude for a long string to go in and come back to infinity.

Strong coupling limit of Bethe Ansatz equations

We develop a method to analyze the strong coupling limit of the Bethe ansatz equations supposed to give the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of the planar ${\cal N}=4$ gauge theory. This method is particularly adapted for the three rank-one sectors, $su(2)$, $su(1|1)$ and $sl(2)$. We use the elliptic parametrization of the Bethe ansatz variables, which degenerates to a hyperbolic one in the strong coupling limit. We analyze the equations for the highest excited states in the su(2) and $su(1|1)$ sectors and for the state corresponding to the twist-two operator in the $sl(2)$ sector, both without and with the dressing kernel. In some cases we were able to give analytic expressions for the leading order magnon densities. Our method reproduces all existing analytical and numerical results for these states at the leading order.

Exact Solution of the Six-Vertex Model on a Random Lattice

We solve exactly the 6-vertex model on a dynamical random lattice, using its representation as a large N matrix model. The model describes a gas of dense nonintersecting oriented loops coupled to the local curvature defects on the lattice. The model can be mapped to the c=1 string theory, compactified at some length depending on the vertex coupling. We give explicit expression for the disk amplitude and evaluate the fractal dimension of its boundary, the average number of loops and the dimensions of the vortex operators, which vary continuously with the vertex coupling.

A Matrix Model for the Two Dimensional Black Hole

We construct and study a matrix model that describes two dimensional string theory in the Euclidean black hole background. A conjecture of V. Fateev, A. and Al. Zamolodchikov, relating the black hole background to condensation of vortices (winding modes around Euclidean time) plays an important role in the construction. We use the matrix model to study quantum corrections to the thermodynamics of two dimensional black holes.

Generalized Hirota Equations in Models of 2D Quantum Gravity

We derive a set of bilinear functional equations of Hirota type for the partition functions of the $sl(2)$ related integrable statistical models defined on a random lattice. These equations are obtained as deformations of the Hirota equations for the KP integrable hierarchy, which are satisfied by the partition function of the ensemble of planar graphs.
