Tetraquarks in holographic QCD

Using a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach we derive the Schrödinger-type equation of motion for the tetraquark wave function, which is dual to the dimension-4 AdS bulk profile. The latter coincides with the number of constituents in the leading Fock state of the tetraquark. The obtained equation of motion is solved analytically, providing predictions for both the tetraquark wave function and its mass. A low mass limit for possible tetraquark states is given by $M \ge 2 κ= 1$ GeV, where $κ= 0.5$ GeV is the typical value of the scale parameter in soft-wall AdS/QCD. We confirm results of the COMPASS Collaboration recently reported on the discovery of the $a_1(1414)$ state, interpreted as a tetraquark state composed of light quarks and having $J^{PC} = 1^{++}$. Our prediction for the mass of this state, $M_{a_1} = \sqrt{2}$ GeV $\simeq 1.414$ GeV, is in good agreement with the COMPASS result $M_{a_1} = 1.414^{+0.015}_{-0.013}$ GeV. Next we included finite quark mass effects, which are essential for the tetraquark states involving heavy quarks.

Suppression vs enhancement of heavy quarkonia in pA collisions

We describe production of heavy quarkonia in pA collisions within the dipole approach, assuming dominance of the perturbative color-singlet mechanism (CSM) in the $p_T$-integrated cross section. Although accounting for a nonzero heavy $Q$-$\bar Q$ separation is a higher twist correction, usually neglected, we found it to be the dominant source of nuclear effects, significantly exceeding the effects of leading twist gluon shadowing and energy loss. Moreover, this contribution turns out to be the most reliably predicted, relying on the precise measurements of the dipole cross section at HERA. The nuclear suppression of quarkonia has been anticipated to become stronger with energy, because the dipole cross section steeply rises. However, the measured nuclear effects remain essentially unchanged within the energy range from RHIC to the LHC. A novel production mechanism is proposed, which enhances the charmonium yield. Nuclear effects for the production of $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ are calculated, in agreement with data from RHIC and LHC. The dipole description offers a unique explanation for the observed significant nuclear suppression of $ψ(2S)$ to $J/ψ$ ratio, related to the nontrivial features of the $ψ(2S)$ wave function.

Nuclear effects in leading neutron production

Absorptive corrections, known to suppress proton-neutron transitions with large fractional momentum $z\to1$ in pp collisions, become dramatically strong on a nuclear target, and push the partial cross sections of leading neutron production to the very periphery of the nucleus. The mechanism of $π$-$a_1$ interference, which successfully explains the observed single-spin asymmetry in polarized $pp\to nX$, is extended to collisions of polarized protons with nuclei. Corrected for nuclear effects, it explains the observed single-spin azimuthal asymmetry of neutrons, produced in inelastic events, where the nucleus violently breaks up. The single-spin asymmetry is found to be negative and nearly $A$-independent.

Radiatively generated hierarchy of lepton and quark masses

We propose a model for radiatively generating the hierarchy of the Standard Model (SM) fermion masses: tree-level top quark mass; 1-loop bottom, charm, tau and muon masses; 2-loop masses for the light up, down and strange quarks as well as for the electron; and 4-loop masses for the light active neutrinos. Our model is based on a softly-broken $S_{3}\times Z_{2}$ discrete symmetry. Its scalar sector consists only of one SM Higgs doublet and three electrically neutral SM-singlet scalars. We do not need to invoke either electrically charged scalar fields, or an extra $SU_{2L}$ scalar doublet, or the spontaneous breaking of the discrete group, which are typical for other radiative models in the literature. The model features a viable scalar dark matter candidate.

Nucleon parton distributions in a light-front quark model

Continuing with our analysis of parton distributions in the nucleon, we extend our light-front quark model in order to obtain both the helicity independent and helicity dependent parton distributions, analytically matching the results of global fits at the initial scale $μ\sim 1$ GeV, and which also contain the correct Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi evolution. We also calculate the transverse parton, Wigner and Husimi distributions from a unified point of view, using our light-front wave functions and expressing them in terms of the parton distributions $q_v(x)$ and $δq_v(x)$. Our results are very relevant for the current and future program of the COMPASS experiment at SPS (CERN).

Novel scenario for production of heavy flavored mesons in heavy ion collisions

The observed strong suppression of heavy flavored hadrons produced with high $p_T$, is caused by final state interactions with the created dense medium. Vacuum radiation of high-pT heavy quarks ceases at a short time scale, as is confirmed by pQCD calculations and by LEP measurements of the fragmentation functions of heavy quarks. Production of a heavy flavored hadrons in a dense medium is considerably delayed due to prompt breakup of the hadrons by the medium. This causes a strong suppression of the heavy quark yield because of the specific shape of the fragmentation function. The parameter-free description is in a good accord with available data.

Loop corrections to pion and kaon neutrinoproduction

In this paper we study the next-to-leading order corrections to deeply virtual pion and kaon production in neutrino experiments. We estimate these corrections in the kinematics of the Minerva experiment at FERMILAB, and find that they are sizable and increase the leading order cross-section by up to a factor of two. We provide a code, which can be used for the evaluation of the cross-sections, taking into account these corrections and employing various GPD models.

Leading Neutrons From Polarized Proton-Nucleus Collisions

Leading neutron production on protons is known to be subject to strong absorptive corrections, which have been under debate for a long time. On nuclear targets these corrections are significantly enhanced and push the partial cross sections of neutron production to the very periphery of the nucleus. As a result, the A-dependences of inclusive and diffractive neutron production turn out to be similar. The mechanism of π-a_1 interference, which successfully explained the observed single-spin asymmetry of neutrons in polarized pp interactions, is extended here to polarized pA collisions. Corrected for nuclear effects it explains well the magnitude and sign of the asymmetry A_N observed in inelastic events, resulting in a violent break up of the nucleus. However the excessive magnitude of A_N observed in the diffractive sample, remains a challenge.

Twist-3 T-odd fragmentation functions $G^\perp$ and $\tilde{G}^\perp$ in a spectator model

We present a calculation of the twist-3 T-odd chiral-even fragmentation functions $G^{\perp}$ and $\tilde{G}^{\perp}$ using a spectator model. We consider the effect gluon exchange to calculate all necessary one-loop diagrams for the quark-quark and quark-gluon-quark correlation functions. We find that the gluon loops corrections generate non-zero contribution to these two fragmentation function. We numerically calculate their half-$k_T$ moments by integrating over the transverse momentum and also verify the equation of motion relation among $G^{\perp}$, $\tilde{G}^{\perp}$ and the Collins function.

Deuteron electromagnetic structure functions and polarization properties in soft-wall AdS/QCD

We apply a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach to the description of deuteron structure functions and tensor polarized properties. Present work is a completion of our previous study on electromagnetic form factors. By the appropriate choice of two couplings in the effective action we are able to reproduce both the form factors and structure functions in full consistency with model-independent constraints set by perturbative QCD. Our framework is based on a five-dimensional action in AdS space formulated in terms of vector fields dual to the deuteron and the electromagnetic fields. The AdS fields depend on four Minkowski and one holographic coordinate $z$. The scale dependence of the form factors and structure functions is consistent with quark counting rules implying the $1/Q^{10}$ behavior of the charge form factor $G_C(Q^2)$, structure functions $A(Q^2)$ and $B(Q^2)$, and the $1/Q^{12}$ behavior of the magnetic $G_M(Q^2)$ and quadrupole $G_Q(Q^2)$ form factors.

Nonperturbative contribution to the strange-antistrange asymmetry of the nucleon sea

We give predictions for the nonperturbative (intrinsic) contribution to the $s(x) - \bar{s}(x)$ asymmetry of the nucleon sea. For this purpose we use different light-front wave functions inspired by the AdS/QCD formalism, together with a model of the nucleon in terms of meson-baryon fluctuations. The holographic wave functions for an arbitrary number of constituents, recently derived by us, give results quite close to known parametrizations that appear in the literature.

Production of pentaquarks in $pA$-collisions

We argue that a hidden-charm pentaquark recently observed in weak decays of $Λ_{b}$ can be produced in proton-nucleus collisions without electroweak intermediaries. We analyze the production cross-section for several scenarios of internal structure and find that a cross-section is sizable. This process can be studied both in collider as well as in fixed-target experiments. In the former case, the pentaquarks are produced at very forward rapidities, whereas in the latter case, pentaquarks are produced with relatively small rapidities and can be easily detected via invariant mass distribution of a forward $J/ψ$ and a comoving proton. Additionally, the suggested process allows to check the existence of a neutral pentaquark $P_{c}^{0}$ (an isospin partner of $P_{c}^{+}$) predicted in several models. The rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of pentaquarks could provide comprehensive information about the $\bar{c}c$ component of this exotic baryon.

Twist-3 fragmentation functions in a spectator model with gluon rescattering

We study the twist-3 fragmentation functions $H$ and $\tilde{H}$, by applying a spectator model. In the calculation we consider the effect of the gluon rescattering at one loop level. We find that in this case the hard-vertex diagram, which gives zero contribution to the Collins function, does contribute to the fragmentation function $H$. The calculation shows that the twist-3 T-odd fragmentation functions are free of light-cone divergences. The parameters of the model are fitted from the known parametrization of the unpolarized fragmentation $D_1$ and the Collins function $H_1^\perp$. We find our result for the favored fragmentation function is consistent with the recent extraction on $H$ and $\tilde{H}$ from pp data. We also check numerically the equation of motion relation for $H$, $\tilde{H}$ and find that relation holds fairly well in the spectator model.

Bimetric Gravity From Adjoint Frame Field In Four Dimensions

We provide a novel model of gravity by using adjoint frame fields in four dimensions. It has a natural interpretation as a gravitational theory of a complex metric field, which describes interactions between two real metrics. The classical solutions establish three appealing features. The spherical symmetric black hole solution has an additional hair, which includes the Schwarzschild solution as a special case. The de Sitter solution is realized without introducing a cosmological constant. The constant flat background breaks the Lorentz invariance spontaneously, although the Lorentz breaking effect can be localized to the second metric while the first metric still respects the Lorentz invariance.

Production of neutrons in the vicinity of the pion pole

High-energy hadronic reactions with proton-to-neutron transitions (and vice versa) with small momentum transfer allow to study the properties of nearly on-shell pions, which cannot be accessed otherwise. We overview the recent results for such processes in deeply inelastic scattering, single and double leading neutron production in pp collisions, including polarization effect. A special attention is paid to the absorption effects, which are found to be much stronger than what has been evaluated previously.

Nuclear physics in soft-wall AdS/QCD: Deuteron electromagnetic form factors

We present a high-quality description of the deuteron electromagnetic form factors in a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach. We first propose an effective action describing the dynamics of the deuteron in the presence of an external vector field. Based on this action the deuteron electromagnetic form factors are calculated, displaying the correct 1/Q^10 power scaling for large Q^2 values. This finding is consistent with quark counting rules and the earlier observation that this result holds in confining gauge/gravity duals. The Q^2 dependence of the deuteron form factors is defined by a single and universal scale parameter kappa, which is fixed from data.

Axions in gravity with torsion

We study a scenario allowing a solution of the strong charge parity problem via the Peccei-Quinn mechanism, implemented in gravity with torsion. In this framework there appears a torsion-related pseudoscalar field known as Kalb-Ramond axion. We compare it with the so-called Barbero-Immirzi axion recently proposed in the literature also in the context of the gravity with torsion. We show that they are equivalent from the viewpoint of the effective theory. The phenomenology of these torsion-descended axions is completely determined by the Planck scale without any additional model parameters. These axions are very light and very weakly interacting with ordinary matter. We briefly comment on their astrophysical and cosmological implications in view of the recent BICEP2 and Planck data.
