Shadowing in Compton scattering on nuclei

We evaluate the shadowing effect in deeply virtual and real Compton scattering on nuclei in the framework of the color dipole model. We rely on the soft photon wave function derived in the instanton vacuum model, and employ the impact parameter dependent phenomenological elastic dipole amplitude. Both the effects of quark and the gluon shadowing are taken into account.

Penetrating intrinsic charm: evidence in data

Nuclei are transparent for a heavy intrinsic charm (IC) component of the beam hadrons, what leads to an enhanced nuclear dependence of open charm production at large Feynman x_F. Indeed, such an effect was observed recently in the SELEX experiment. Our calculations reproduce well the data, providing strong support for the presence of IC in hadrons in amount less than 1%. Moreover, we performed an analysis of nuclear effects in J/Psi production and found a similar, although weaker effect

Updating Boer-Mulders functions from unpolarized pd and pp Drell-Yan data

We extract the Boer-Mulders functions for the proton by combining the unpolarized pd and pp Drell-Yan data measured by the E866/NuSea Collaboration by the assumption that the $\cos 2ϕ$ asymmetry is from the Boer-Mulders function. Using the extracted Boer-Mulders functions, we present the predictions for the $\cos 2 ϕ$ asymmetries in future pp experiments at J-PARC and $p \bar{p}$ experiments at PANDA and PAX.

Measuring the saturation scale in nuclei

The saturation momentum seeing in the nuclear infinite momentum frame is directly related to transverse momentum broadening of partons propagating through the medium in the nuclear rest frame. Calculation of broadening within the color dipole approach including the effects of saturation in the nucleus, gives rise to an equation which describes well data on broadening in Drell-Yan reaction and heavy quarkonium production.

Optimized Negative Dimensional Integration Method (NDIM) and multiloop Feynman diagram calculation

We present an improved form of the integration technique known as NDIM (Negative Dimensional Integration Method), which is a powerful tool in the analytical evaluation of Feynman diagrams. Using this technique we study a $% ϕ^{3}\oplus ϕ^{4}$ theory in $D=4-2ε$ dimensions, considering generic topologies of $L$ loops and $E$ independent external momenta, and where the propagator powers are arbitrary. The method transforms the Schwinger parametric integral associated to the diagram into a multiple series expansion, whose main characteristic is that the argument contains several Kronecker deltas which appear naturally in the application of the method, and which we call diagram presolution. The optimization we present here consists in a procedure that minimizes the series multiplicity, through appropriate factorizations in the multinomials that appear in the parametric integral, and which maximizes the number of Kronecker deltas that are generated in the process. The solutions are presented in terms of generalized hypergeometric functions, obtained once the Kronecker deltas have been used in the series. Although the technique is general, we apply it to cases in which there are 2$ $or$ $3 different energy scales (masses or kinematic variables associated to the external momenta), obtaining solutions in terms of a finite sum of generalized hypergeometric series de 1 and 2 variables respectively, each of them expressible as ratios between the different energy scales that characterize the topology. The main result is a method capable of solving Feynman integrals, expressing the solutions as hypergeometric series of multiplicity $(n-1) $, where $n$ is the number of energy scales present in the diagram.

Modular application of an Integration by Fractional Expansion (IBFE) method to multiloop Feynman diagrams

We present an alternative technique for evaluating multiloop Feynman diagrams, using the integration by fractional expansion method. Here we consider generic diagrams that contain propagators with radiative corrections which topologically correspond to recursive constructions of bubble type diagrams. The main idea is to reduce these subgraphs, replacing them by their equivalent multiregion expansion. One of the main advantages of this integration technique is that it allows to reduce massive cases with the same degree of difficulty as in the massless case.

Real Compton Scattering via Color Dipoles

We study photoabsorption reaction and real Compton scattering (RCS) within the color dipole model. We rely on a photon wave function derived in the instanton vacuum model, and on the energy dependent phenomenological elastic dipole amplitude. Data for the photoabsorption cross section at high energies agree with our parameter free calculations. We also provide predictions for the differential RCS cross section. Although no data for small angle Compton scattering are available so far, this process can be measured in ultra-peripheral hadronic and nuclear collisions at the LHC.

Lepton Number Violating Processes Mediated by Majorana Neutrinos at Hadron Colliders

We study the Lepton number violating like-sign dilepton processes $h_1 h_2 \to l^\pm l^{\prime \pm} jj X$ and $h_1 h_2 \to l^\pm l^{\prime \pm} W^\pm X$, mediated by heavy GeV scale Majorana neutrinos. We focus on the resonantly enhanced contributions with a nearly on-mass-shell Majorana neutrino in the s-channel. We study the constraints on like-sign dilepton production at the Tevatron and the LHC on the basis of the existing experimental limits on the masses of heavy neutrinos and their mixings $U_{αN}$ with $α= ν_{e}, ν_μ, ν_τ$. Special attention is paid to the constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay. We note that searches for like-sign $e^{\pm} e^{\pm}$ events at Tevatron and LHC may shed light on CP-violation in neutrino sector. We also discuss the conditions under which it is possible to extract individual constraints on the mixing matrix elements in a model independent way.

Modular application of an Integration by Fractional Expansion (IBFE) method to multiloop Feynman diagrams II

A modular application of the integration by fractional expansion (IBFE) method for evaluating Feynman diagrams is extended to diagrams that contain loop triangle subdiagrams in their geometry. The technique is based in the replacement of this module or subdiagram by its corresponding multiregion expansion (MRE), which in turn is obtained from Schwinger's parametric representation of the diagram. The result is a topological reduction, transforming the triangular loop into an equivalent vertex, which simplifies the search for the MRE of the complete diagram. This procedure has important advantages with respect to considering the parametric representation of the whole diagram: the obtained MRE is reduced and the resulting hypergeometric series tend to have smaller multiplicity.

Direct photons at forward rapidities in high-energy pp collisions

We investigate direct photon production in pp collisions at the energies of RHIC, CDF and LHC, at different rapidities employing various color-dipole models. The cross section peaks at forward rapidities due to the abelian dynamics of photon radiation. This opens new opportunities for measurement of direct photons at forward rapidities, where the background from radiative hadronic decays is strongly suppressed. Our model calculations show that photon production is sensitive to the gluon saturation effects, and strongly depends on the value of the anomalous dimension.

Glauber - Gribov approach for DIS on nuclei in N=4 SYM

In this paper the Glauber-Gribov approach for deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) with nuclei is developed in N=4 SYM. It is shown that the amplitude displays the same general properties, such as geometrical scaling, as is the case in the high density QCD approach. We found that the quantum effects leading to the graviton reggeization, give rise to an imaginary part of the nucleon amplitude, which makes the DIS in N=4 SYM almost identical to the one expected in high density QCD. We concluded that the impact parameter dependence of the nucleon amplitude is very essential for N=4 SYM, and the entire kinematic region can be divided into three regions which are discussed in the paper. We revisited the dipole description for DIS and proposed a new renormalized Lagrangian for the shock wave formalism which reproduces the Glauber-Gribov approach in a certain kinematic region. However the saturation momentum turns out to be independent of energy, as it has been discussed by Albacete, Kovchegov and Taliotis. We discuss the physical meaning of such a saturation momentum $Q_s(A)$ and argue that one can consider only $Q>Q_s(A)$ within the shock wave approximation.

DVCS via color dipoles: Nonperturbative effects

We study the DVCS amplitude within the color dipole approach. The light-cone wave function of a real photon is evaluated in the instanton vacuum model. Our parameter free calculations are able to describe H1 data, both the absolute values and the $t$-dependences, at medium-high values of $Q^{2}$. The $Q^{2}$ dependence is found to be sensitive to the choice of the phenomenological cross section fitted to DIS data.

Unitarity bound for gluon shadowing

Although at small Bjorken x gluons originated from different nucleons in a nucleus overlap in the longitudinal direction, most of them are still well separated in the transverse plane, therefore cannot fuse. For this reason the gluon density in nuclei cannot drop at small x below a certain bottom bound, which we evaluated in a model independent manner assuming the maximal strength of gluon fusion. We also calculated gluon shadowing in the saturated regime using on the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, and found the nuclear ratio to be well above the unitarity bound. The recently updated analysis of parton distributions in nuclei \cite{eps08} including RHIC data on high-pT hadron production at forward rapidities, led to astonishingly strong gluon shadowing, which is far beyond the unitarity bound. This indicates a misconception in the interpretation of the nuclear suppression observed at HRIC.

Azimuthal Asymmetry of pions in pp and pA collisions

We investigate the azimuthal asymmetry v2 of produced pions in pp and pA collisions at both RHIC and SPS energies. In our approach, based on the pQCD parton model and the light-cone QCD-dipole formalism, the azimuthal asymmetry results from a correlation between the color-dipole orientation and the impact parameter of the collision. We introduce the color-dipole orientation within an improved Born approximation and the saturation model which satisfies available DIS data, showing that the azimuthal asymmetry of partons and pions is very sensitive to the choice of the model, and that it is reduced in the saturation model. We find that v2 of quarks and gluons in parton-nucleus collisions have very different patterns. The azimuthal asymmetry of gluons in gluon-nucleus collisions can be negative at small transverse momentum, changes the sign and becomes positive at high transverse momentum. The azimuthal asymmetry of quarks in quark-nucleus collisions is positive at all values of transverse momentum. We find that the azimuthal anisotropy v2 of produced pions in both pp and pA collisions is positive, albeit rather small.
