On the irrationality of cubic fourfolds

Following the work of Katzarkov--Kontsevich--Pantev--Yu concerning the irrationality of the very general complex cubic fourfold, we prove the following: for every rational smooth complex cubic fourfold, the primitive cohomology is isomorphic as a Hodge structure to the (twisted) middle cohomology of a projective K3 surface.

An atomic criterion for irrationality without quantum computations

The birational invariants introduced by Katzarkov-Kontsevich-Pantev-Yu allows one to obtain irrationality results for varieties whose quantum cohomology is well-behaved. We observe that under certain cohomological conditions, we can deduce irrationality of a very general member from the theory of atoms without actually computing them, using only monodromy equivariance of quantum multiplication and irreducibility of the monodromy representation. Our criterion applies to the very general cubic and Gushel-Mukai fourfolds, whose irrationalities were already known, but also to the very general K{ü}chle fourfold of type (c5), which is a Fano manifold of index one.

Quantum cohomology and birational geometry of Verra fourfolds

We compute the small quantum cohomology ring of a Verra fourfold. Using the theory of atoms recently developped by Katzarkov--Kontsevich--Pantev--Yu, and building on recent papers of the authors, we deduce that a Verra fourfold is never birational to a very general cubic fourfold, nor to a very general Gushel--Mukai fourfold, whereas it was previously known that a general Verra fourfold is birational to a general nodal Gushel--Mukai fourfold. More precisely, we show that for every smooth cubic fourfold or smooth Gushel--Mukai fourfold that is birational to some Verra fourfold, the primitive cohomology is isomorphic, as a rational Hodge structure, to the middle cohomology of some projective K3 surface.

Hodge-Gromov-Witten theory

We determine the all-genus Hodge-Gromov-Witten theory of a smooth hypersurface in weighted projective space defined by a chain or loop polynomial. In particular, we obtain the first genus-zero computation of Gromov-Witten invariants for hypersurfaces in non-Gorenstein ambiant spaces, where the convexity property fails. We extend it to any weighted projective hypersurface defined by an invertible polynomial.

Congruences on K-theoretic Gromov--Witten invariants

We study K-theoretic Gromov--Witten invariants of projective hypersurfaces using a virtual localization formula under finite group actions. In particular, it provides all K-theoretic Gromov--Witten invariants of the quintic threefold modulo 41, up to genus 19 and degree 40. As an illustration, we give an instance in genus one and degree one. Applying the same idea to a K-theoretic version of FJRW theory, we determine it modulo 41 for the quintic polynomial with minimal group and narrow insertions, in every genus.

Fundamental Factorization of a GLSM, Part I: Construction

We define enumerative invariants associated to a hybrid Gauged Linear Sigma Model. We prove that in the relevant special cases, these invariants recover both the Gromov-Witten type invariants defined by Chang-Li and Fan-Jarvis-Ruan using cosection localization as well as the FJRW type invariants constructed by Polishchuk-Vaintrob. The invariants are defined by constructing a "fundamental factorization" supported on the moduli space of Landau-Ginzburg maps to a convex hybrid model. This gives the kernel of a Fourier-Mukai transform; the associated map on Hochschild homology defines our theory.

Integrable systems of double ramification type

In this paper we study various aspects of the double ramification (DR) hierarchy, introduced by the first author, and its quantization. We extend the notion of tau-symmetry to quantum integrable hierarchies and prove that the quantum DR hierarchy enjoys this property. We determine explicitly the genus $1$ quantum correction and, as an application, compute completely the quantization of the $3$- and $4$-KdV hierarchies (the DR hierarchies for Witten's $3$- and $4$-spin theories). We then focus on the recursion relation satisfied by the DR Hamiltonian densities and, abstracting from its geometric origin, we use it to characterize and construct a new family of quantum and classical integrable systems which we call of double ramification type, as they satisfy all of the main properties of the DR hierarchy. In the second part, we obtain new insight towards the Miura equivalence conjecture between the DR and Dubrovin-Zhang hierarchies, via a geometric interpretation of the correlators forming the double ramification tau-function. We then show that the candidate Miura transformation between the DR and DZ hierarchies (which we uniquely identified in our previous paper) indeed turns the Dubrovin-Zhang Poisson structure into the standard form. Eventually, we focus on integrable hierarchies associated with rank-$1$ cohomological field theories and their deformations, and we prove the DR/DZ equivalence conjecture up to genus $5$ in this context.

Equivariant Landau--Ginzburg mirror symmetry

We give a new proof of the computation of Hodge integrals we have previously obtained for the quantum singularity (FJRW) theory of chain polynomials. It uses the classical localization formula of Atiyah--Bott and we phrase our proof in a general framework that is suitable for future studies of gauged linear sigma models (GLSM). As a by-product, we obtain the first equivariant version of mirror symmetry without concavity, generalizing the work of Chiodo--Iritani--Ruan on the Landau--Ginzburg side.

DR/DZ equivalence conjecture and tautological relations

In this paper we present a family of conjectural relations in the tautological ring of the moduli spaces of stable curves which implies the strong double ramification/Dubrovin-Zhang equivalence conjecture. Our tautological relations have the form of an equality between two different families of tautological classes, only one of which involves the double ramification cycle. We prove that both families behave the same way upon pullback and pushforward with respect to forgetting a marked point. We also prove that our conjectural relations are true in genus $0$ and $1$ and also when first pushed forward from $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n+m}$ to $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ and then restricted to $\mathcal{M}_{g,n}$, for any $g,n,m\geq 0$. Finally we show that, for semisimple CohFTs, the DR/DZ equivalence only depends on a subset of our relations, finite in each genus, which we prove for $g\leq 2$. As an application we find a new formula for the class $λ_g$ as a linear combination of dual trees intersected with kappa and psi classes, and we check it for $g \leq 3$.

A generalization of the double ramification cycle via log-geometry

We give a log-geometric description of the space of twisted canonical divisors constructed by Farkas--Pandharipande. In particular, we introduce the notion of a principal rubber $k$-log-canonical divisor, and we study its moduli space. It is a proper Deligne--Mumford stack admitting a perfect obstruction theory whose virtual fundamental cycle is of dimension $2g-3+n$. In the so-called strictly meromorphic case with $k=1$, the moduli space is of the expected dimension and the push-forward of its virtual fundamental cycle to the moduli space of stable curves equals the weighted fundamental class of the moduli space of twisted canonical divisors. Conjecturally, it yields a formula of Pixton generalizing the double ramification cycle in the moduli space of stable curves.

Towards a description of the double ramification hierarchy for Witten's $r$-spin class

The double ramification hierarchy is a new integrable hierarchy of hamiltonian PDEs introduced recently by the first author. It is associated to an arbitrary given cohomological field theory. In this paper we study the double ramification hierarchy associated to the cohomological field theory formed by Witten's $r$-spin classes. Using the formula for the product of the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle with Witten's class, found by the second author, we present an effective method for a computation of the double ramification hierarchy. We do explicit computations for $r=3,4,5$ and prove that the double ramification hierarchy is Miura equivalent to the corresponding Dubrovin--Zhang hierarchy. As an application, this result together with a recent work of the first author with Paolo Rossi gives a quantization of the $r$-th Gelfand--Dickey hierarchy for $r=3,4,5$.

A Landau--Ginzburg mirror theorem without concavity

We provide a mirror symmetry theorem in a range of cases where the state-of-the-art techniques relying on concavity or convexity do not apply. More specifically, we work on a family of FJRW potentials named after Fan, Jarvis, Ruan, and Witten's quantum singularity theory and viewed as the counterpart of a non-convex Gromov--Witten potential via the physical LG/CY correspondence. The main result provides an explicit formula for Polishchuk and Vaintrob's virtual cycle in genus zero. In the non-concave case of the so-called chain invertible polynomials, it yields a compatibility theorem with the FJRW virtual cycle and a proof of mirror symmetry for FJRW theory.

Hodge integrals in FJRW theory

We study higher genus Fan--Jarvis--Ruan--Witten theory of any chain polynomial with any group of symmetries. Precisely, we give an explicit way to compute the cup product of Polishchuk and Vaintrob's virtual class with the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle. Our formula for this product holds in any genus and without any assumption on the semi-simplicity of the underlying cohomological field theory.
