Continuity and finiteness of the radius of convergence of a p-adic differential equation via potential theory

We study the radius of convergence of a differential equation on a smooth Berkovich curve over a non-archimedean complete valued field of characteristic 0. Several properties of this function are known: F. Baldassarri proved that it is continuous and the authors showed that it factorizes by the retraction through a locally finite graph. Here, assuming that the curve has no boundary or that the differential equation is overconvergent, we provide a shorter proof of both results by using potential theory on Berkovich curves.

Polynomial approximation of Berkovich spaces and definable types

We investigate affine Berkovich spaces over maximally complete fields and prove that they may be approximated by simpler spaces when the only functions we need to evaluate are polynomials of bounded degree. We derive applications to semi-algebraic sets and recover a result of E. Hrushovski and F. Loeser which claims that points of Berkovich spaces give rise to definable types (a model-theoretic notion of tameness).

Raccord sur les espaces de Berkovich

Let $X$ be a Berkovich space over a valued field. We prove that every finite group is a Galois group over $\Ms(B)(T)$, where $\Ms(B)$ is the field of meromorphic functions over a part $B$ of $X$ satisfying some conditions. This gives a new geometric proof that every finite group is a Galois group over $K(T)$, where $K$ is a complete valued field with non-trivial valuation. Then we switch to Berkovich spaces over ${\bf Z}$ and use a similar strategy to give a new proof of the following theorem by D. Harbater: every finite group is a Galois group over a field of convergent arithmetic power series. We believe our proof to be more geometric and elementary that the original one. We have included the necessary background on Berkovich spaces over ${\bf Z}$.

La droite de Berkovich sur Z

We study here the Berkovich line over the ring of integers of a number field. It is a natural object which contains complex and non-Archimedean analytic spaces associated to each place. We prove that this line satisfies good topological and algebraic properties and exhibit a few examples of Stein spaces that lie in it. We derive applications to the study of convergent arithmetic power series: choice of zeroes and poles, noetherianity of global rings and inverse Galois problem. Typical examples of such power series are given by analytic functions on the open complex unit disk whose Taylor development in 0 has integer coefficients.

Un résultat de connexité pour les variétés analytiques p-adiques. Privilège et noethérianité

Let $k$ be a non-Archimedean field, $X$ a $k$-affinoid space and $f$ an analytic function over $X$. We precisely describe how the geometric connected components of the spaces $\{x \in X, |f(x)| \ge \varepsilon\}$ behave with regards to $\varepsilon$. We also obtain a result concerning privileged neighbourhoods and adapt a theorem from complex analytic geometry about Noetherianity for germs of analytic functions.
