Weak Limits of Random Coefficient Autoregressive Processes and their Application in Ruin Theory

We prove that a large class of discrete-time insurance surplus processes converge weakly to a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, under a suitable re-normalization and when the time-step goes to 0. Motivated by ruin theory, we use this result to obtain approximations for the moments, the ultimate ruin probability and the discounted penalty function of the discrete-time process.

On The Ruin Problem With Investment When The Risky Asset Is A Semimartingale

In this paper, we study the ruin problem with investment in a general framework where the business part X is a L{é}vy process and the return on investment R is a semimartingale. We obtain upper bounds on the finite and infinite time ruin probabilities that decrease as a power function when the initial capital increases. When R is a L{é}vy process, we retrieve the well-known results. Then, we show that these bounds are asymptotically optimal in the finite time case, under some simple conditions on the characteristics of X. Finally, we obtain a condition for ruin with probability one when X is a Brownian motion with negative drift and express it explicitly using the characteristics of R.

Classification of the Bounds on the Probability of Ruin for L{é}vy Processes with Light-tailed Jumps

In this note, we study the ultimate ruin probabilities of a real-valued L{é}vy process X with light-tailed negative jumps. It is well-known that, for such L{é}vy processes, the probability of ruin decreases as an exponential function with a rate given by the root of the Laplace exponent, when the initial value goes to infinity. Under the additional assumption that X has integrable positive jumps, we show how a finer analysis of the Laplace exponent gives in fact a complete description of the bounds on the probability of ruin for this class of L{é}vy processes. This leads to the identification of a case that is not considered in the literature and for which we give an example. We then apply the result to various risk models and in particular the Cram{é}r-Lundberg model perturbed by Brownian motion.
