Conformal Einstein spaces and conformally covariant operators

In this article we give general neccessary and sufficient conditions to ensure that a pseudo-Riemannian manifold is conformal to an Einstein space. These conditions are algorithmic in \emph{the metric tensor} whenever the Weyl endomorphism is invertible. Our conditions depend in an essential manner on the $\mathcal{C}$-connection. We also show how to construct \emph{conformally covariant, pseudo-differential} operators which has an independent interest.

Finslerian lightconvex boundaries: applications to causal simplicity and the space of cone geodesics $\mathcal{N}$

Our outcome is structured in the following sequence: (1) a general result for indefinite Finslerian manifolds with boundary $(M,L)$ showing the equivalence between local and infinitesimal (time, light or space) convexities for the boundary $\partial M$, (2) for any cone structure $(M,\mathcal{C})$ which is globally hyperbolic with timelike boundary, the equivalence among: (a) the boundary $\partial M$ is lightconvex, (b) the interior $\mathring{M}$ is causally simple and (c) the space of the cone (null) geodesics $\mathcal{N}$ of $(\mathring{M},\mathcal{C})$ is Hausdorff, (3) in this case, the manifold structure of $\mathcal{N}$ is obtained explicitly in terms of elements in $\partial M$ and a smooth Cauchy hypersurface $S$, (4) the known results and examples about Hausdorfness of $\mathcal{N}$ are revisited and extended, leading to the notion of {\em causally simple spacetime with $T_2$-lightspace} as a step in the causal ladder below global hyperbolicity. The results are significant for relativistic (Lorentz) spacetimes and the writing allows one either to be introduced in Finslerian technicalities or to skip them. In particular, asymptotically AdS spacetimes become examples where the $C^{1,1}$ conformal extensions at infinity yield totally lightgeodesic boundaries, and all the results above apply.

Low regularity approach to Bartnik's conjecture

In this work we establish a version of the Bartnik Splitting Conjecture in the context of Lorentzian length spaces. In precise terms, we show that under an appropriate timelike completeness condition, a globally hyperbolic Lorentzian length space of the form $Σ\times \mathbb{R}$ with $Σ$ compact splits as a metric Lorentzian product, provided it has non negative timelike curvature bounds. This is achieved by showing that the causal boundary of that Lorentzian length space consists on a single point.

A Moser-Bernstein problem for Riemannian warped products

In this work we deal with an elliptic non-linear problem, which arises naturally from Riemannian geometry. This problem has clasically been studied in the the Euclidean $n$-dimensional space and it is known as the Moser-Bernstein problem. Nevertheless we solve this type of problems in a wide family of Riemannian manifolds, constructed as Riemannian warped products. More precicely, we study the entire solutions to the minimal hypersurface equation in a Riemannian warped product $M=P\times_h\mathbb{R}$, where $P$ is a complete Riemannian parabolic manifold and $h$ a positive smooth function on $P$.

On complete trapped submanifolds in globally hyperbolic spacetimes

The aim of this manuscript is to obtain rigidity and non-existence results for parabolic spacelike submanifolds with causal mean curvature vector field in orthogonally splitted spacetimes, and in particular, in globally hyperbolic spacetimes. We also obtain results regarding the geometry of submanifolds by ensuring, under some mild hypothesis, the non-existence of local minima or maxima of certain distinguished function. Furthermore, in this last case the submanifold does not need to be parabolic or even complete. As an application in General Relativity, we obtain several nice results regarding (non-necessarily closed) trapped surfaces in a huge family of spacetimes. In fact, we show how our technique allows us to recover some relevant previous results for trapped surfaces in both, standard static spacetimes and Generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes.

The c-completion of Lorentzian metric spaces

Inspired by some Lorentzian versions of the notion of metric and length space introduced by Kunzinger and Sämman, and more recently, by Müller, and Minguzzi and Sühr, we revisit the notion of Lorentzian metric space in order to later construct the c-completion of these general objects. We not only prove that this construction is feasible in great generality for these objects, including spacetimes of low regularity, but also endow the c-completion with a structure of Lorentzian metric space by itself. We also prove that the c-completion constitutes a well-suited extension of the original space, which really completes it in a precise sense and becomes sensible to certain causal properties of that space.

Some remarks on conformal symmetries and Bartnik's splitting conjecture

Inspired by the results in a recent paper by G. Galloway and C. Vega (see arXiv:1712.00785), we investigate a number of geometric consequences of the existence of a timelike conformal Killing vector field on a globally hyperbolic spacetime with compact Cauchy hypersurfaces, especially in connection with the so-called Bartnik's splitting conjecture. In particular we give a complementary result to the main theorem in Galloway and Vega's paper.

Hausdorff closed limits and the causal boundary of globally hyperbolic spacetimes with timelike boundary

We show that when a spacetime $\mathcal{M}(=M \cup \partial M)$ is globally hyperbolic with (possibly empty) smooth timelike boundary $\partial M$, a metrizable topology, the closed limit topology (CLT) introduced by F. Hausdorff himself in the 1950's in set theory, can be advantageously adopted on the Geroch-Kronheimer-Penrose causal completion of M, retaining essentially all the good properties of previous topologies in this ambient. In particular, we show that if the globally hyperbolic spacetime $M$ admits a conformal boundary, defined in such broad terms as to include all the standard examples in the literature, then the latter is homeomorphic to the causal boundary endowed with the CLT. We also discuss how our recent proposal arXiv:1807.00152 for a definition of null infinity using only causal boundaries can be translated when using the CLT, simplifying a number of technical aspects in the pertinent definitions. In a more technical vein, in the appendix we discuss the relationship of the CLT with the more generally applicable (but not always Hausdorff) chronological topology, and show that they coincide exactly in those cases when the latter happens to be Hausdorff.
