On similarity solutions for boundary layer flows with prescribed heat flux

This paper is concerned with existence, uniqueness and behavior of the solutions of the autonomous third order nonlinear differential equation $f'''+(m+2)ff''-(2m+1)f'^2=0$ on $\mathbb{R}^+$ with the boundary conditions $f(0)=-γ$, $f'(\infty)=0$ and $f''(0)=-1$. This problem arises when looking for similarity solutions for boundary layer flows with prescribed heat flux. To study solutions we use some direct approach as well as blowing-up coordinates to obtain a plane dynamical system.

Similarity solutions for high frequency excitation of liquid metal in an antisymmetric magnetic field

The aim of this paper is to investigate, as precisely as possible, a boundary value problem involving a third order ordinary differential equation. Its solutions are the similarity solutions of a problem arising in the study of the phenomenon of high frequency excitation of liquid metal systems in an antisymmetric magnetic field within the framework of boundary layer approximation.

Recent advances on similarity solutions arising during free convection

This paper reviews results about free convection near a vertical flat plate embedded in some saturated porous medium. We focus on a third order autonomous differential equation that gives a special class of solutions called similarity solutions. Two cases are under consideration: in the first one we prescribe the temperature on the plate and in the second one we prescribe the heat flux on it. We will also see that the same equation appears in other industrial processes.

On a general similarity boundary layer equation

In this paper we are concerned with the solutions of the differential equation $f'''+ff''+g(f')=0$ on $[0,\infty)$, satisfying the boundary conditions $f(0)=α$, $f'(0)=β\geq 0$, $f'(\infty)=ł$, and where $g$ is some given continuous function. This general boundary value problem includes the Falkner-Skan case, and can be applied, for example, to free or mixed convection in porous medium, or flow adjacent to stretching walls in the context of boundary layer approximation. Under some assumptions on the function $g$, we prove existence and uniqueness of a concave or a convex solution. We also give some results about nonexistence and asymptotic behaviour of the solution.

Steady free convection in a bounded and saturated porous medium

In this paper we are interested with a strongly coupled system of partial differential equations that modelizes free convection in a two-dimensional bounded domain filled with a fluid saturated porous medium. This model is inspired by the one of free convection near a semi-infinite impermeable vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium. We establish the existence and uniqueness of the solution for small data in some unusual spaces.

A non-stationary problem coupling PDEs and ODEs modelizing an automotive catalytic converter

In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution of a non-stationary problem that modelizes the behaviour of the concentrations and the temperature of gases going through a cylindrical passage of an automotive catalytic converter. This problem couples parabolic partial differential equations in a domain with one parabolic partial differential equation and some ordinary differential equations on a part of its boundary.
