Observation of direct CP violation in the measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma with B+- --> D(*)K(*)+- decays

We report the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating angle gamma through the combination of various measurements involving B^{+-} --> D K^{+-}, B^{+-} --> D^{*} K^{+-}, and B^{+-} --> D K^{*+-} decays performed by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e^{+}e^{-} collider at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Using up to 474 million B\bar{B} pairs, we obtain gamma = (69 ^{+17}_{-16})^\circ (modulo 180^\circ). The total uncertainty is dominated by the statistical component, with the experimental and amplitude-model systematic uncertainties amounting to +-4^\circ. The corresponding two-standard-deviation region is 41^\circ < gamma < 102^\circ. This result is inconsistent with gamma = 0 with a significance of 5.9 standard deviations.

Search for b --> u Transitions in B^{+-} --> [K^{-+} pi^{+-} pi0]_D K^{+-} Decays

We present a study of the decays B^{+-} --> D K^{+-} with D mesons reconstructed in the K+pi-pi0 or K-pi+pi0 final states, where D indicates a D0 or a anti-D0 meson. Using a sample of 474 million BBbar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC we obtain R^{+} = (5^{+12}_{-10}(stat) ^{+2}_{-4}(syst))\times10^{-3} and R^{-} = (12^{+12}_{-10}(stat) ^{+3}_{-5}(syst))\times10^{-3}, from which we extract the upper limits at 90% probability: R^+<23\times10^{-3} and R^-<29\times10^{-3}. Using these measurements, we obtain an upper limit for the ratio rB of the magnitudes of the b --> u and b --> c amplitudes r_B<0.13 at 90% probability.

Search for neutral Higgs bosons decaying into four taus at LEP2

A search for the production and non-standard decay of a Higgs boson, h, into four taus through intermediate pseudoscalars, a, is conducted on 683 pb-1 of data collected by the ALEPH experiment at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV. No excess of events above background is observed, and exclusion limits are placed on the combined production cross section times branching ratio, ξ^2 = σ(e+e- --> Zh)/σ_{SM}(e+e- --> Zh) x B(h --> aa)x B(a --> τ^+τ^-)^2. For mh < 107 GeV/c2 and 4 < ma < 10 GeV/c2, ξ^2 > 1 is excluded at the 95% confidence level.
