Electroweak monopoles with a non-linearly realized weak hypercharge

We present a finite-energy electroweak-monopole solution obtained by considering non-linear extensions of the hypercharge sector of the Electroweak Theory, based on logarithmic and exponential versions of electrodynamics. We find constraints for a class of non-linear extensions and also work out an estimate for the monopole mass in this scenario. We finally derive a lower bound for the energy of the monopole and discuss the simpler case of a Dirac magnetic charge.

Dispersion Relations in Non-Linear Electrodynamics and the Kinematics of the Compton Effect in a Magnetic Background

Non-linear electrodynamic models are re-assessed in this paper to pursue an investigation of the kinematics of the Compton effect in a magnetic background. Before considering specific models, we start off by presenting a general non-linear Lagrangian built up in terms of the most general Lorentz- and gauge-invariant combinations of the electric and magnetic fields. The extended Maxwell-like equations and the energy-momentum tensor conservation are presented and discussed in their generality. We next expand the fields around a uniform and time-independent electric and magnetic backgrounds up to second order in the propagating wave, and compute dispersion relations which account for the effect of the external fields. We obtain thereby the refraction index and the group velocity for the propagating radiation in different situations. In particular, we focus on the kinematics of the Compton effect in presence of external magnetic fields. This yields constraints that relate the derivatives of the general Lagrangian with respect to the field invariants and the magnetic background under consideration. We carry out our inspection by focusing on some specific non-linear electrodynamic effective models: Hoffmann-Infeld, Euler-Heisenberg, generalized Born-Infeld and Logarithmic.

Aspects of Lorentz-Poincaré-symmetry violating physics in a supersymmetric scenario

We study a Lorentz invariance violating extension for the pure photonic sector of the standard model in a supersymmetric scenario. We identify a number of independent background fermion condensates. An effective photonic action is proposed which is induced by the SUSY background fermion condensates. The physical consequences leading to direct measurable effects over the screening and confining properties are considered. In the specific case of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw, we pay special attention in analyzing the dispersion relations to derive the photon and photino masses in terms of the supersymmetric background parameters. In connection with astrophysical aspects of Lorentz-symmetry violation, we discuss the time delay between electromagnetic waves of different frequencies as a consequence of the appearance of the massive photon. We also point out that, in the scenario we propose to accommodate Lorentz-symmetry violation in presence of a supersymmetric background, there is room for a sort of fermionic Primakoff effect in which a photino-photon conversion may be induced by the fermionic sector of the supersymmetric background.

Remarks on an anomalous triple gauge boson couplings

We address the effect of an anomalous triple gauge boson couplings on a physical observable for the electroweak sector of the Standard Model, when the $SU(2)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{Y}$ symmetry is spontaneously broken by the Higgs mechanism to $U(1)_{em}$. Our calculation is done within the framework of the gauge-invariant, but path-dependent variable formalism which is alternative to the Wilson loop approach. Our result shows that the interaction energy is the sum of a Yukawa and a linear potential, leading to the confinement of static probe charges. The point we wish to emphasize, however, is that the anomalous triple gauge boson couplings ($Z γγ$) contributes to the confinement for distances on the intranuclear scale.

F-term spontaneous breaking of 3D-SUSY an algebro-geometric treatment

We settle a result on generic exactness of SUSY in 3-D, and provide a mechanism of F-term spontaneous breaking of 3-D SUSY, with a different set of tools from those used by O'Raifeartaigh in his seminal work on 4-D SUSY. In our study, we use techniques of projective algebraic geometry so as to deal successfully with cubic hypersurfaces.

A $Z'$-model and the magnetism of a dark fermion candidate

Our contribution sets out to investigate the phenomenology of a gauge model based on an $SU_{L}(2) \times U_{R}(1)_{Q} \times U(1)_{Q'}$-symmetry group. The model can accommodate, through its symmetry-breaking pattern, a candidate to a heavy $Z'$-boson at the TeV-scale. The extended Higgs sector introduces a heavy scalar whose mass lies in the region $1.2-3.7 \, \mbox{TeV}$. The fermion sector includes an exotic candidate to Dark Matter that mixes with the right-handed neutrino component in the Higgs sector, so that the whole field content ensures the cancellation of the $U(1)$-quiral anomaly. The masses are fixed according to the particular way the symmetry breaking takes place. In view of the possible symmetry breakdown pattern, we study the phenomenological implications in a high-energy scenario. We worek out the magnetic dipole momentum (MDM) of the exotic fermion and the transition MDM due to its mixing with the right-neutrino.

Supersymmetry and Fermionic Modes in an Oscillon Background

The excitations referred to as oscillons are long-lived time-dependent field configurations which emerge dynamically from non-linear field theories. Such long-lived solutions are of interest in applications that include systems of Condensed Matter Physics, the Standard Model of Particle Physics, Lorentz-symmetry violating scenarios and Cosmology. In this work, we show how oscillons may be accommodated in a supersymmetric scenario. We adopt as our framework simple ($\mathcal{N}=1$) supersymmetry in $D=1+1$ dimensions. We focus on the bosonic sector with oscillon configurations and their (classical) effects on the corresponding fermionic modes, (supersymmetric) partners of the oscillons. The particular model we adopt to pursue our investigation displays cubic self-interactions in the scalar sector.

Fermion inter-particle potentials in 5D and a dimensional restriction prescription to 4D

This work sets out to compute and discuss effects of spin, velocity and dimensionality on inter-particle potentials systematically derived from gauge field-theoretic models. We investigate the interaction of fermionic particles by the exchange of a vector field in a parity-preserving description in five-dimensional $(5D)$ space-time. A particular dimensional reduction prescription is adopted $-$ reduction by dimensional restriction $-$ and special effects, like a pseudo-spin dependence, show up in four dimensions $(4D)$. What we refer to as pseudo-spin shall be duly explained. The main idea we try to convey is that the calculation of the potentials in $5D$ and the consequent reduction to $4D$ exhibits new effects that are not present if the potential is calculated in $4D$ after the action has been reduced.

A Unified Hidden-Sector-Electroweak Model, Paraphotons and the X-Boson

Our contribution sets out to investigate the phenomenology of a gauge model based on an $SU_{L}(2) \times U_{R}(1)_{J} \times U(1)_{K}$-symmetry group. The model can accommodate in its distinct phases - by virtue of different symmetry-breaking patterns - a candidate to a heavy $Z'$-boson at the TeV-scale and the recently discussed $17 \, \mbox{MeV}$ X-boson that may bring about a new physics at the $\mbox{MeV}$-scale. Furthermore, the para-photon of the dark matter sector and the candidate to the so-called dark photon can also be described in the scenario we are endeavoring to set up in this paper. In the $Z'$-scenario, the extended Higgs sector introduces a heavy scalar whose mass lies in the region $1.2-3.7 \, \mbox{TeV}$, while that the lower energy scale scenario presents a light scalar with mass in the interval $1.9-19 \, \mbox{GeV}$. The fermionic sector includes an exotic candidate to dark matter that mixes with the right-neutrino component in the Higgs sector, so that the whole field content yields the cancellation of the U(1)-anomaly. The masses are fixed according to the particular way the symmetry breaking takes place. In view of the possible symmetry breakdown patterns, we study the phenomenological implications in both scenarios of high- and low-energy scales. As examples, we consider the scattering of Standard Model matter into dark sector constituents intermediated by the $Z'$-boson in the $\mbox{TeV}$-scale, and the corresponding scattering intermediated by a lightest boson in the lower scale physics. Furthermore, we obtain the magnetic dipole momentum (MDM) of the exotic fermion and the transition MDM due to the mixing with the right-neutrino.

Extension and Applications of a Variational Approach with Deformed Derivatives

We have recently presented an extension of the standard variational calculus to include the presence of deformed derivatives in the Lagrangian of a system of particles and in the Lagrangian density of field-theoretic models. Classical Euler-Lagrange equations and the Hamiltonian formalism have been re-assessed in this approach. Whenever applied to a number of physical systems, the resulting dynamical equations come out to be the correct ones found in the literature, specially with mass-dependent and with non-linear equations for classical and quantum-mechanical systems. In the present contribution, we extend the variational approach with the intervalar form of deformed derivatives to study higher-order dissipative systems, with application to concrete situations, such as an accelerated point charge - this is the problem of the Abraham-Lorentz-Dirac force - to stochastic dynamics like the Langevin, the advection-convection-reaction and Fokker-Planck equations, Korteweg-de Vries equation, Landau-Lifshits-Gilbert equation and the Caldirola-Kanai Hamiltonian. By considering these different applications, we show that the formulation investigated in this paper may be a simple and promising path for dealing with dissipative, non-linear and stochastic systems through the variational approach.

Axiomatic Local Metric Derivatives for Low-Level Fractionality with Mittag-Leffler Eigenfunctions

In this contribution, we build up an axiomatic local metric derivative that exhibits the Mittag-Leffler as an eigenfunction and is valid for low-level fractionality, whenever the order parameter is close to $1$. This version of deformed or metric derivative may be a possible alternative to the versions by Jumarie and the inappropriately so-called local fractional derivative also based on the Jumarie's approach. With rules similar to the classical ones, but with a solid axiomatic basis in the limit pointed out here, we present our results and some comments on the limits of validity for the controversial formalism found in the literature of the area.

The origin of Chern-Simons modified gravity from an 11 + 3-dimensional manifold

In this contribution, it is our aim to show that the Chern-Simons terms of modified gravity can be understood as generated by the addition of a 3-dimensional algebraic manifold to an initial 11-dimensional space-time manifold; this builds up an 11+3-dimensional space-time. In this system, firstly, some fields living in the bulk join the fields that live on the 11-dimensional manifold, so that the rank of the gauge fields exceeds the dimension of the algebra; consequently, there emerges an anomaly. To solve this problem, another 11-dimensional manifold is included in the 11 +3-dimensional space-time, and it interacts with the initial manifold by exchanging Chern-Simons fields. This mechanism is able to remove the anomaly. Chern-Simons terms actually produce an extra manifold between the pair of 11-dimensional manifolds of the 11+3-space-time. Summing up over the topology of both the 11-dimensional manifolds and the topology of the exchanged Chern-Simons manifold in the bulk , we conclude that the total topology shrinks to one, which is in agreement with the main idea of the Big Bang theory.

Comparative aspects of spin-dependent interaction potentials for spin-1/2 and spin-1 matter fields

This paper sets out to establish a comparative study between classes of spin- and velocity-dependent potentials for spin-1/2 and spin-1 matter currents/sources in the non-relativistic regime. Both (neutral massive) scalar and vector particles are considered to mediate the interactions between (pseudo-)scalar sources or (pseudo-)vector currents. Though our discussion is more general, we contemplate specific cases in which our results may describe the electromagnetic interaction with a massive (Proca-type) photon exchanged between two spin-1/2 or two spin-1 carriers. We highlight the similarities and peculiarities of the potentials for the two different types of charged matter and also focus our attention on the comparison between the particular aspects of two different field representations for spin-1 matter particles. We believe that our results may contribute to a further discussion of the relation between charge, spin and extensibility of elementary particles.

Casimir Effect at finite temperature for the CPT-even extension of QED

By the thermofield dynamics (TFD) formalism we obtain the energy-momentum tensor for the Electromagnetism with Lorentz Breaking Even term of the Standard Model Extended (SME) Sector in a topology $S^{1}\times S^{1}\times R^{2}$. We carry out the compactification by a generalized TFD-Bogoliubov transformation that is used to define a renormalized energy-momentum tensor, and the Casimir energy and pressure at finite temperature are then derived. A comparative analysis with the electromagnetic case is developed, and we remark the influence of the background in the traditional Casimir effect.

A 3-form Gauge Potential in 5D in connection with a Possible Dark Sector of 4D-Electrodynamics

We here propose a 5-dimensional {\bf Abelian gauge} model based on the mixing between a $U(1)$ potential and an Abelian 3-form field by means of a topological mass term. An extended covariant derivative is introduced to minimally couple a Dirac field to the $U(1)$ potential, while this same covariant derivative non-minimally couples the 3-form field to the charged fermion. A number of properties are discussed in 5D; in particular, the appearance of a topological fermionic current. A 4-dimensional reduced version of the model is investigated and, { \bf in addition to the $U(1)$ electric- and magnetic-sort of fields,} there emerges an extra set of electric- and magnetic-like fields which contribute a negative pressure and may be identified as a possible fraction of dark energy. The role of the topological fermionic current is also contemplated upon dimensional reduction from 5D to 4D. Other issues we present in 4 space-time dimensions are the emergence {\bf of a pseudo-scalar massive particle,} an extra massive neutral gauge boson,{\bf which we interpret as a kind of paraphoton}, and the calculation of spin- and velocity-dependent interparticle potentials associated to the exchange of the intermediate bosonic fields of the model.

Topologically Massive Spin-1 Particles and Spin-Dependent Potentials

We investigate the role played by particular field representations of an intermediate massive spin-1 boson in the context of spin-dependent interparticle potentials between fermionic sources in the limit of low momentum transfer. The comparison between the well-known case of the Proca field and that of an exchanged spin-1 boson (with gauge-invariant mass) described by a 2-form potential mixed with a 4-vector gauge field is established in order to pursue an analysis of spin- as well as velocity-dependent profiles of the interparticle potentials. We discuss possible applications and derive an upper bound on the product of vector and pseudo-tensor coupling constants.

On a connection between a class of q-deformed algebras and the Hausdorff derivative in a medium with fractal metric

Over the recent decades, diverse formalisms have emerged that are adopted to approach complex systems. Amongst those, we may quote the q-calculus in Tsallis' version of Non-Extensive Statistics with its undeniable success whenever applied to a wide class of different systems; Kaniadakis' approach, based on the compatibility between relativity and thermodynamics; Fractional Calculus (FC), that deals with the dynamics of anomalous transport and other natural phenomena, and also some local versions of FC that claim to be able to study fractal and multifractal spaces and to describe dynamics in these spaces by means of fractional differential equations. The question we might ask is whether or not there are common aspects that connect these alternative approaches. In this short communication, we discuss a possible relationship between q-deformed algebras in two different contexts of Statistical Mechanics, namely, the Tsallis' framework and the Kaniadakis' scenario, with local form of fractional-derivative operators defined in fractal media, the so-called Hausdorff derivatives, mapped into a continuous medium with a fractal measure. This connection opens up new perspectives for theories that satisfactorily describe the dynamics for the transport in media with fractal metrics, such as porous or granular media. Possible connections with other alternative definitions of FC are also contempled. Insights on complexity connected to concepts like coarse-grained space-time and physics in general are pointed out.
