Harmonic Polylogarithms

The harmonic polylogarithms (hpl's) are introduced. They are a generalization of Nielsen's polylogarithms, satisfying a product algebra (the product of two hpl's is in turn a combination of hpl's) and forming a set closed under the transformation of the arguments x=1/z and x=(1-t)/(1+t). The coefficients of their expansions and their Mellin transforms are harmonic sums.

Some problems in loop calculations

We discuss some of the problems that may occur in the calculation of complicated Feynman diagrams. These include the group independent evaluation of color factors, and the summation techniques that are needed for the expansion of diagrams into their Mellin moments.

Harmonic sums, Mellin transforms and Integrals

This paper describes algorithms to deal with nested symbolic sums over combinations of harmonic series, binomial coefficients and denominators. In addition it treats Mellin transforms and the inverse Mellin transformation for functions that are encountered in Feynman diagram calculations. Together with results for the values of the higher harmonic series at infinity the presented algorithms can be used for the symbolic evaluation of whole classes of integrals that were thus far intractable. Also many of the sums that had to be evaluated seem to involve new results. Most of the algorithms have been programmed in the language of FORM. The resulting set of procedures is called SUMMER.

Group theory factors for Feynman diagrams

We present algorithms for the group independent reduction of group theory factors of Feynman diagrams. We also give formulas and values for a large number of group invariants in which the group theory factors are expressed. This includes formulas for various contractions of symmetric invariant tensors, formulas and algorithms for the computation of characters and generalized Dynkin indices and trace identities. Tables of all Dynkin indices for all exceptional algebras are presented, as well as all trace identities to order equal to the dual Coxeter number. Further results are available through efficient computer algorithms (see http://norma.nikhef.nl/~t58/ and http://norma.nikhef.nl/~t68/ ).

The Large Quark Mass Expansion of Gamma (Z^0 -> hadrons) and Gamma(tau^- -> nu_tau + hadrons) in the Order alpha_s^3

We present the analytical $α_{s}^3$ correction to the $Z^{0}$ decay rate into hadrons. We calculate this correction up to (and including) terms of the order $(m_Z^2/m_{top}^2)^3$ in the large top quark mass expansion. We rely on the technique of the large mass expansion of individual Feynman diagrams and treat its application in detail. We convert the obtained results of six flavour QCD to the results in the effective theory with five active flavours, checking the decoupling relation of the QCD coupling constant. We also derive the large charm quark mass expansion of the semihadronic $τ$ lepton decay rate in the $α_{s}^3$ approximation.

The 4-loop quark mass anomalous dimension and the invariant quark mass

We present the analytical calculation of the four-loop quark mass anomalous dimension in Quantum Chromodynamics within the minimal subtraction scheme. On the basis of this result we find that the so-called invariant quark mass is a very good reference mass for the accurate evolution of the running MS-bar quark mass in phenomenological applications. We also obtain for the first time a complete 4-th order perturbative QCD expression for a physical quantity, the total Higgs boson decay rate into hadrons, and analyze the infrared fixed point for this case.

The 3-loop QCD calculation of the moments of deep inelastic structure functions

We present the analytic next-to-next-to-leading perturbative QCD corrections in the leading twist approximation for the moments N=2,4,6,8 of the flavour singlet deep inelastic structure functions F_2 and F_L. We calculate the three-loop anomalous dimensions of the corresponding singlet operators and the three-loop coefficient functions of the structure functions F_L and F_2. In addition, we obtained the 10th moment for the non-singlet structure functions in the same order of perturbative QCD. We perform an analysis of the obtained results.

The three-loop QCD $β$-function and anomalous dimensions

The analytic calculation of the three-loop QCD $β$-function and anomalous dimensions within the minimal subtraction scheme in an arbitrary covariant guage is presented. The result for the $β$-function coincides with the previous calculation \cite{tvz}.
