Kerr-Newman black holes in f(R) theories

In the context of f(R) modified gravity theories, we study the Kerr-Newman black-hole solutions. We study non-zero constant scalar curvature solutions and discuss the metric tensor that satisfies the modified field equations. We determine that, in absence of a cosmological constant, the black holes existence is determined by the sign of a parameter dependent of the mass, the charge, the spin and the scalar curvature. We obtain that for negative values of the curvature, the extremal black hole is no longer given by a spin parameter a_max = M (as is the case in General Relativity), but by a_max < M, and that for positive values of the curvature there are two kinds of extremal black holes: the usual one, that occurs for a_max > M, and the extreme marginal one, where the exterior (but not interior) black hole's horizon vanishes provided that a < a_min. Thermodynamics for this kind of black holes is then studied, as well as their local and global stability. Finally we study different f(R) models and see how these properties manifest for their parameters phase space.

Photon spectra from quark generation by WIMPs

In this work we provide the fitting formula valid for the simulated photon spectra from WIMP annihilation into light quark-anti quark (qq-) channels in a wide range of WIMP masses. We illustrate our results for the cc- channel.

Photon spectra from WIMP annihilation

If the present dark matter in the Universe annihilates into Standard Model particles, it must contribute to the fluxes of cosmic rays that are detected on the Earth, and in particular, to the observed gamma ray fluxes. The magnitude of such contribution depends on the particular dark matter candidate, but certain features of the produced photon spectra may be analyzed in a rather model-independent fashion. In this work we provide the complete photon spectra coming from WIMP annihilation into Standard Model particle-antiparticle pairs obtained by extensive Monte Carlo simulations. We present results for each individual annihilation channel and provide analytical fitting formulae for the different spectra for a wide range of WIMP masses.

Is the CMB cold spot a gate to extra dimensions?

One of the most striking features found in the cosmic microwave background data is the presence of an anomalous Cold Spot (CS) in the temperature maps made by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). This CS has been interpreted as the result of the presence of a collapsing texture, perhaps coming from some early universe Grand Unified Theory (GUT) phase transition. In this work we propose an alternative explanation based on a completely different kind of texture which appears in a natural way in a broad class of brane-world models. This type of textures known as brane-skyrmions can be understood as holes in the brane which make possible to pass through them along the extra-dimensional space. The typical scales needed for the proposed brane-skyrmions to correctly describe the observed CS can be as low as the electroweak scale.

Gravitino and Axino SuperWIMPs

Gravitinos and axinos produced in the late decays of other supersymmetric particles are well-motivated dark matter (DM) candidates, whose experimental evidences are very distinctive and different from other standard candidates, as thermal produced neutralinos in similar supersymmetric models. In particular, charged sleptons could appear stable because of the length of its lifetime. The direct production of such particles at both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and a future International Linear Collider (ILC) can give not only a clear signature of supersymmetry but also the first non-gravitational evidence of dark matter.

Catching photons from extra dimensions

In extra-dimensional brane-world models with low tension, brane excitations provide a natural WIMP candidate for dark matter. Taking into account the various constraints coming from colliders, precision observables and direct search, we explore the possibilities for indirect search of the galactic halo branons through their photon producing annihilations in experiments such as EGRET, HESS or AMS2.

Some model-independent phenomenological consequences of flexible brane worlds

In this work we will review the main properties of brane-world models with low tension. Starting from very general principles, it is possible to obtain an effective action for the relevant degrees of freedom at low energies (branons). Using the cross sections for high-energy processes involving branons, we set bounds on the different parameters appearing in these models. We also show that branons provide a WIMP candidate for dark matter in a natural way. We consider cosmological constraints on its thermal and non-thermal relic abundances. We derive direct detection limits and compare those limits with the preferred parameter region in the case in which the EGRET excess in the diffuse galactic gamma rays is due to dark matter annihilation. Finally we will discuss the constraints coming from the precision tests of the Standard Model and the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

Toward High Precision Higgs-Boson Measurements at the International Linear e+e- Collider

This report reviews the properties of Higgs bosons in the Standard Model (SM) and its various extensions. We give an extensive overview about the potential of the ILC operated at centre-of-mass energies up to 1 TeV (including the gamma gamma option) for the determination of the Higgs boson properties. This comprises the measurement of the Higgs boson mass, its couplings to SM fermions and gauge bosons, and the determination of the spin and the CP quantum numbers of the Higgs. The extensions of the SM that are analyzed in more detail are heavy SM-like Higgs bosons, heavy Higgs bosons in the framework of Supersymmetry (SUSY) and further exotic scenarios. We review recent theoretical developments in the field of Higgs boson physics. The important question what the ILC can contribute to Higgs boson physics after the LHC, the LHC/ILC interplay and synergy is discussed. The impact of Higgs boson physics on cosmology in several SUSY frameworks is analyzed. The impact of the accelerator and dector performance on the precision of measurements are discussed in detail. We propose a strategy to optimize future analyses. Open questions arising for the various topics are listed, further topics of study and corresponding roadmaps are suggested.

Report of the 2005 Snowmass Top/QCD Working Group

This report discusses several topics in both top quark physics and QCD at an International Linear Collider (ILC). Issues such as measurements at the $t\bar{t}$ threshold, including both theoretical and machine requirements, and the determination of electroweak top quark couplings, are reviewed. New results concerning the potential of a 500 GeV $e^+e^-$ collider for measuring $Wtb$ couplings and the top quark Yukawa coupling are presented. The status of higher order QCD corrections to jet production cross sections, heavy quark form factors, and longitudinal gauge boson scattering, needed for percent-level studies at the ILC, are reviewed. A new study of the measurement of the hadronic structure of the photon at a $γγ$ collider is presented. The effects on top quark properties from several models of new physics, including composite models, Little Higgs theories, and CPT violation, are studied.

Branon Phenomenology

In brane-world models with low tension, the fluctuations of the brane along the extra dimensions (branons) are the only relevant new low-energy modes. Such branon fields are in general massive, stable and weakly interacting, and accordingly they are natural candidates to explain the universe missing mass problem. On the other hand, the branon phenomenology is very rich because they couple to all the Standard Model particles. Distinctive branon signals could be observed in next colliders and in dark matter searches.

CPT violation in the top sector

We study the viability of observation of CPT violation in the top sector at future colliders. We show possible studies and different estimates for hadronic and linear colliders. In particular, we will present current constraints for Tevatron and prospects for the LHC and the ILC.

Branon radiative corrections to collider physics and precision observables

In the context of brane-world scenarios, we study the effects produced by the exchange of virtual massive branons. A one-loop calculation is performed which generates higher-dimensional operators involving SM fields suppressed by powers of the brane tension scale. We discuss constraints on this scenario from colliders such as HERA, LEP and Tevatron and prospects for future detections at LHC or ILC. The most interesting phenomenology comes from new four-particles vertices induced by branon radiative corrections, mainly from four fermion interactions. The presence of flexible branes modifies also the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the electroweak precision observables.

The Newtonian limit at intermediate energies

We study the metric solutions for the gravitational equations in Modified Gravity Models (MGMs). In models with negative powers of the scalar curvature, we show that the Newtonian Limit (NL) is well defined as a limit at intermediate energies, in contrast with the usual low energy interpretation. Indeed, we show that the gravitational interaction is modified at low densities or low curvatures.

Dark matter clues in the muon anomalous magnetic moment

We study the possibility to explain the non-baryonic dark matter abundance and improve the present fits on the muon anomalous magnetic moment through the same new physics. The only viable way to solve simultaneously both problems which is known to date is by using supersymmetric theories. However in this work we show that massive brane fluctuations (branons) in large extra-dimensions models can provide a more economical alternative to supersymmetry. This is so because the low-energy branon physics depends effectively on only three parameters. Next collider experiments, such as LHC or ILC, will be sensitive to branon phenomenology in the natural parameter region where the theory is able to account for the two effects.

Dark matter from extra dimensions

In brane-world models with low tension, massive branons are natural candidates for dark matter. The phenomenology of these WIMP-like particles is completely determined by their mass, the brane tension and, in the case of effects due to radiative corrections, by the cutoff setting the scale of validity of the branon effective theory. In this paper, we review the main constraints on branon physics coming from colliders, astrophysics and cosmological observations, and include more recent limits obtained from electroweak precision measurements.

A new dark matter candidate in low-tension brane-worlds

Brane world theories contain additional degrees of freedom related to the geometry of the extra dimension space which can be understood as brane oscillations (branons). In the case where the fundamental gravitational scale is much larger than the brane tension scale, these branons are the only extra degrees of freedom at low energies coming from the extra dimensions. Branons are generically stable, weakly interacting and massive. They could be produced in the next generation colliders and at the same time they are natural WIMP like candidates for dark matter.
