Dirac bracket and Nambu structures

A relation between the Dirac bracket (DB) and Nambu bracket (NB) is presented. The Nambu bracket can be related with Dirac bracket if we can write the DB as a generalized Poisson structure. The NB associated with DB have all the standard properties of the original DB. When the dimension of the phase space is $s+2$ where $s$ is the number of second class constraints, the associated Nambu structure has $s+2$ entries and reduces to the Dirac bracket when $s$ of its entries are fixed to be the second class constraints. In general, when the dimension of phase space is $d=r+s$ a new Nambu structure that describes correctly the constrained dynamics can also be constructed but in thsi case addicional conditidionts are requiered. In that case the associated NB corresponds to a ``Dirac-Nambu'' bracket with $r$ entries.

$\sqrt{T\bar{T}}$-deformed oscillator inspired by ModMax

Inspired by a recently proposed Duality and Conformal invariant modification of Maxwell theory (ModMax), we construct a one-parameter family of two-dimensional dynamical system in classical mechanics that share many features with the ModMax theory. It consists of a couple of $\sqrt{T\bar{T}}$-deformed oscillators that nevertheless preserves duality $(q \rightarrow p,p \rightarrow -q)$ and depends on a continuous parameter $γ$, as in the ModMax case. Despite its non-linear features, the system is integrable. Remarkably can be interpreted as a pair of two coupled oscillators whose frequencies depend on some basic invariants that correspond to the duality symmetry and rotational symmetry. Based on the properties of the model, we can construct a non-linear map dependent on $γ$ that maps the oscillator in 2D to the nonlinear one, but with parameter $2γ$. The dynamics also shows the phenomenon of energy transfer and we calculate a Hannay angle associated to geometric phases and holonomies.

Vertical extension of Noether Theorem for Scaling Symmetries

The aim of this paper is to present a new approach to construct constants of motion associated with scaling symmetries of dynamical systems. Scaling maps could be symmetries of the equations of motion but not of its associated Lagrangian action. We have constructed a Noether inspired theorem in a vertical extended space that can be used to obtain constants of motion for these symmetries. Noether theorem can be obtained as a particular case of our construction. To illustrate how the procedure works, we present two interesting examples, a) the Schwarzian Mechanics based on Schwarzian derivative operator and b) the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) non linear partial differential equation in the context of the asymptotic dynamics of General Relativity on AdS$_3$. We also study the inverse of Noether theorem for scaling symmetries and show how we can construct and identify the generator of the scaling transformation, and how it works for the vertical extended constant of motion that we are able to construct. We find an interesting contribution to the symmetry associated with the fact that the scaling symmetry is not a Noether symmetry of the action. Finally, we have contrasted our results with recent analysis and previous attempts to find constants of motion associated with these beautiful scaling laws.

Noether Identities, $β$-functions and symmetries in DFT

Given the $β$ functions of the closed string sigma model up to one loop in $α'$, the effective action implement the condition $β=0$ to preserve conformal symmetry at quantum level. One of the more powerful and striking results of string theory is that this effective action contains Einstein gravity as an emergent dynamics in space-time. We show from the $β$ functions and its relation with the equations of motion of the effective action, that the differential identities [1] are the Noether identities associated with the effective action and its gauge symmetries. From here, we reconstruct the gauge and space time symmetries of the effective action. In turn, we can show that the differential identities are the contracted Bianchi identities of the the field strength $H$ and Riemann tensor $R$. Next, we apply the same ideas to DFT. Taking as starting point that the generalized $β$ functions in DFT are proportional to the equations of motion, we construct the generalized differential identities in DFT. Relating the Noether identities with the contracted Bianchi identities of DFT, we were able to reconstruct the generalized gauge and space time symmetries. Finally, we recover the original $β$ functions, effective action, differential identities, and symmetries when we turn off the $\tilde x$ space time coordinates from DFT.

Relativistic Runge-Lenz vector: from ${\cal N}=4$ SYM to SO(4) scalar field theory

Starting from ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and using an appropriate Higgs mechanism we reconsider the construction of a scalar field theory non-minimally coupled to a Coulomb potential with a relativistic SO(4) symmetry and check for scalar field consistency conditions. This scalar field theory can also be obtained from a relativistic particle Lagrangian with a proper implementation of the non-minimal coupling. We provide the generalization of the non-relativistic construction of the Runge-Lenz vector to the relativistic case and show explicitly that this new vector generates the SO(4) algebra. Using the power of the SO(4) symmetry, we calculate the relativistic hydrogen atom spectrum. We provide a generalization of the Kustaanheimo-Stiefel transformation to the relativistic case and relate our results with the corresponding relativistic oscillator. Finally, in the light of these results, we reconsider the calculation of the hydrogen atom spectrum from the cusp anomalous dimension given in [2].

Cusp Anomalous dimension and rotating open strings in AdS/CFT

In the context of AdS/CFT we provide analytical support for the proposed duality between a Wilson loop with a cusp, the cusp anomalous dimension, and the meson model constructed from a rotating open string with high angular momentum. This duality was previously studied using numerical tools in [1]. Our result implies that the minimum of the profile function of the minimal area surface dual to the Wilson loop, is related to the inverse of the bulk penetration of the dual string that hangs from the quark--anti-quark pair (meson) in the gauge theory.

Wallis formula from the harmonic oscillator

We show that the asymptotic formula for $π$, the Wallis formula, that was related with quantum mechanics and the hydrogen atom in \cite{HF}, can also be related to the harmonic oscillator using a quantum duality between these two systems. As a corollary we show that this very interesting asymptotic formula is not related with the hydrogen atom or quantum mechanics itself but with a clever choice of a trial function and a potential in the Schroedinger equation when we use the variational approach to calculate the ground state energy associated with the given potential function.

A note on the implementation of Poincaré symmetry in noncommutative field theory

We argue that Poincaré symmetry can be implemented in NCFT if we allow the parameter of noncommutitive deformation $θ^{μν}$ to change as a two-tensor under the corresponding space-time symmetry. The implementation is consistent with the definition of $θ^{μν}$ in terms of space-time coordinates and with the Moyal star product. Inspired from the standard definition of a variational symmetry we found a universal way to correct the implementation of the Poincaré symmetry by a term proportional to the variation of $θ^{μν}$ in such a way that the new transformation define a symmetry of the theory. Finally we present as an example the case of NCYM theory and comment about the obstructions to implement generalized space-time symmetries in NCFT like conformal or diffeomorphism transformations.

Equations of motion, Noncommutativity and Quantization

We study the relation between a given set of equations of motion in configuration space and a Poisson bracket. A Poisson structure is consistent with the equations of motion if the symplectic form satisfy some consistency conditions. When the symplectic structure is commutative these conditions are the Helmholtz integrability equations for the nonrestricted inverse problem of the calculus of variations. We have found the corresponding consistency conditions for the symplectic noncommutative case.

Weyl Invariant p-brane and Dp-brane actions

Conformal invariant new forms of $p$-brane and D$p$-brane actions are proposed. The field content of these actions are: an induced metric, gauge fields, an auxiliary metric and an auxiliary scalar field that implements the Weyl invariance. This scalar field transforms with a conformal weight that depends on the brane dimension. The proposed actions are Weyl invariant in any dimension and the elimination of the auxiliary metric and the scalar field reproduces the Nambu-Goto action for $p$-branes and the Born-Infeld action for D$p$-branes. As a consequence of the fact that in the $p$-brane case, the action is quadratic in $\partial_0 X$, we develop a complete construction for the associated canonical formalism, solving the problem in previous formulations of conformal $p$-brane actions where the Hamiltonian can not be constructed. We obtain the algebra of constraints and identify the generator of the Weyl symmetry. In the construction of the corresponding supersymmetric generalization of this conformal $p$-brane action we show that the associated $κ$-symmetry is consistent with the conformal invariance. In the D$p$-brane case, the actions are quadratic in the gauge fields. These actions can be used to construct new conformal couplings in any dimension $p$ to the auxiliary scalar field now promoted as a dynamical variable.

Lagrangian Noether symmetries as canonical transformations

We prove that, given a time-independent Lagrangian defined in the first tangent bundle of configuration space, every infinitesimal Noether symmetry that is defined in the $n$-tangent bundle and is not vanishing on-shell, can be written as a canonical symmetry in an enlarged phase space, up to constraints that vanish on-shell. The proof is performed by the implementation of a change of variables from the the $n$-tangent bundle of the Lagrangian theory to an extension of the Hamiltonian formalism which is particularly suited for the case when the Lagrangian is singular. This result proves the assertion that any Noether symmetry can be canonically realized in an enlarged phase space. Then we work out the regular case as a particular application of this ideas and rederive the Noether identities in this framework. Finally we present an example to illustrate our results.

Faddeev-Jackiw approach to gauge theories and ineffective constraints

The general conditions for the applicability of the Faddeev-Jackiw approach to gauge theories are studied. When the constraints are effective a new proof in the Lagrangian framework of the equivalence between this method and the Dirac approach is given. We find, however, that the two methods may give different descriptions for the reduced phase space when ineffective constraints are present. In some cases the Faddeev-Jackiw approach may lose some constraints or some equations of motion. We believe that this inequivalence can be related to the failure of the Dirac conjecture (that says that the Dirac Hamiltonian can be enlarged to an Extended Hamiltonian including all first class constraints, without changes in the dynamics) and we suggest that when the Dirac conjecture fails the Faddeev-Jackiw approach fails to give the correct dynamics. Finally we present some examples that illustrate this inequivalence.

Equivalence of Faddeev-Jackiw and Dirac approaches for gauge theories

The equivalence between the Dirac method and Faddeev-Jackiw analysis for gauge theories is proved. In particular we trace out, in a stage by stage procedure, the standard classification of first and second class constraints of Dirac's method in the F-J approach. We also find that the Darboux transformation implied in the F-J reduction process can be viewed as a canonical transformation in Dirac approach. Unlike Dirac's method the F-J analysis is a classical reduction procedure, then the quantization can be achieved only in the framework of reduce and then quantize approach with all the know problems that this type of procedures presents. Finally we illustrate the equivalence by means of a particular example.

BRST-BFV method for nonstationary systems

Starting from an associated reparametrization-invariant action, the generalization of the BRST-BFV method for the case of nonstationary systems is constructed. The extension of the Batalin-Tyutin conversional approach is also considered in the nonstationary case. In order to illustrate these ideas, the propagator for the time-dependent two-dimensional rotor is calculated by reformulating the problem as a system with only first class constraints and subsequently using the BRST-BFV prescription previously obtained.
