Finite groups and arc-transitive maps of square-free Euler characteristic

A characterization is completed for finite groups acting arc-transitively on maps with square-free Euler characteristic, associated with infinite families of regular maps of square-free Euler characteristic presented. This is based on a classification of finite groups of which each Sylow subgroup has a cyclic or dihedral subgroup of prime index.

A $ΔR\sim 9.5$ mag Super Flare of An Ultracool Star Detected by $\text{SVOM/GWAC}$ System

In this paper, we report the detection and follow-ups of a super stellar flare GWAC\,181229A with an amplitude of $ΔR\sim$9.5 mag on a M9 type star by $\text{SVOM/GWAC}$ and the dedicated follow-up telescopes. The estimated bolometric energy $E_{bol}$ is $(5.56-9.25)\times10^{34}$ ergs, which places the event to be one of the most powerful flares on ultracool stars. The magnetic strength is inferred to be (3.6-4.7) kG. Thanks to the sampling with a cadence of 15 seconds, a new component near the peak time with a very steep decay is detected in the $R$-band light curve, followed by the two-component flare template given by Davenport et al. (2014). An effective temperature of $5340\pm40$ K is measured by a blackbody shape fitting to the spectrum at the shallower phase during the flare. The filling factors of the flare are estimated to be $\sim$30\% and 19\% at the peak time and at 54 min after the first detection. The detection of the particular event with large amplitude, huge-emitted energy and a new component demonstrates that a high cadence sky monitoring cooperating with fast follow-up observations is very essential for understanding the violent magnetic activity.

Photometric and spectroscopic Studies of Superoutbursts of Three Dwarf Novae Independently Identified by The SVOM/GWAC System in 2018

We report our photometric and spectroscopic follow-up observations of the superoutbursts of three dwarf novae (GWAC\,180415A, GWAC\,181017A and GWAC\,181211A) identified independently by the Ground Wide-angle Cameras system, one of the ground-based instruments of the China-France SVOM mission. Based on a combination of our photometry and that taken from the AAVSO, our period analysis of the superhumps enables us to determine the mass ratios to be 0.0967-0.1163, 0.1879-0.1883 and 0.0981-0.1173 for GWAC\,180415A, GWAC\,181017A and GWAC\,181211A, respectively. GWAC\,180415A can be firmly identified as a WZ sge-type dwarf novae due to its long duration ($\sim2$ weeks) multiple rebrightenings with amplitudes of 3-4 magnitudes, the early superhump associated with a double-wave modulation and the low mass ratio. The inferred low mass ratio and location in the $\varepsilon-P_{\mathrm{orb}}$ diagram suggest that GWAC\,181211A is a WZ sge-type dwarf novae candidate. The measured Balmer decrements suggest the Balmer line emission is produced from an optical thick region in GWAC\,180415A and GWAC\,181017A, and from an optical thin region in GWAC\,181211A.

Observation of orbital ordering and origin of the nematic order in FeSe

To elucidate the origin of nematic order in FeSe, we performed field-dependent 77Se-NMR measurements on single crystals of FeSe. We observed orbital ordering from the splitting of the NMR spectra and Knight shift and a suppression of it with magnetic field B0 up to 16 T applied parallel to the Fe-planes. There is a significant change in the distribution and magnitude of the internal magnetic field across the orbital ordering temperature Torb while stripe-type antiferromagnetism is absent. Giant antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin fluctuations measured by the NMR spin-lattice relaxation are gradually developed starting at ~ 40 K, which is far below the nematic ordering temperature Tnem. These results demonstrate that orbital ordering is the origin of the nematic order, and the AFM spin fluctuation is the driving mechanism of superconductivity in FeSe under the presence of the nematic order.

Two New "Turn-off" Changing-look Active Galactic nuclei and Implication on "Partially Obscured" AGNs

We here report a spectroscopic identification of two new changing-look AGNs (CL-AGNs): SDSS\,J104705.16+544405.8 and SDSS\,J120447.91+170256.8 both with a "turn-off" type transition from type 1 to type 1.8/1.9. The identification is arrived by a follow-up spectroscopic observation of the five changing-look AGN (CL-AGN) candidates that are extracted from the sample recently released in Macleod et al. The candidates are extract by the authors from the Sloan Digit Sky Survey Data Release 7 spectroscopically confirmed quasars with large amplitude variability. By compiling a sample of 26 previously identified CL-AGNs, we confirm the claim in Macleod et al. that CL-AGNs tend to be biased against low Eddington ratio, and identify an overlap between the CL-AGNs at their dim state and the so-called intermediate-type AGNs. The overlap implies that there two populations of the intermediate-type AGNs with different origins. One is due to the torus orientation effect, and the another the intrinsic change of the accretion rate of the central supermassive blackholes.

Spectroscopy of the Type Ic Supernova SN\,2017iuk Associated with Low-redshift GRB\,171205A

We here report a spectroscopic monitor for the supernova SN\,2017iuk associated with the long-duration low-luminosity gamma-ray burst GRB\,171205A at a redshift of 0.037, which is up to now the third GRB-SN event away from us. Our spectroscopic observations and spectral analysis allow us to identify SN\,2017iuk as a typical broad-line type Ic SN. A comparison study suggests that the type-IcBL SN\,2017iuk resembles to SN\,2006aj in following aspects: 1) similar spectra at the nearby epochs, 2) comparable evolution of the photospheric velocity obtained from the measurements based on both \ion{Si}{2}$λ$6355 line and spectral modeling, and 3) comparable explosion parameters. This analogy could imply a formation of a neutron star in the core-collapse of GRB\,171205A/SN\,2017iuk as previously suggested in GRB\,060218/SN\,2006aj. The properties of the host galaxy is discussed, which suggests that GRB\,171205A/SN\,2017iuk occurred in an early type (S0), high-mass, starforming galaxy with low specific SFR and solar metallicity.

Super lithium-rich K giant with low $^{12}\rm{C}$ to $^{13}\rm{C}$ ratio

The lithium abundances in a few percent of giants exceed the value predicted by the standard stellar evolution models, and the mechanisms of Li enhancement are still under debate. The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) survey has obtained over six million spectra in the past five years, and thus provides a great opportunity to search these rare objects and to more clearly understand the mechanisms of Li enhancement. Based on the high-resolution spectrum we obtained the stellar parameters ($T_\mathrm{eff}$, $\log g$, [Fe/H]), and determined the elemental abundances of Li, C, N, $α$, Fe-peak, r-process, s-process elements, and the projected rotational velocity. For a better understanding of the effect of mixing processes, we also derived the $^{12}\rm{C}$ to $^{13}\rm{C}$ ratio, and constrained the evolutionary status of TYC\,3251-581-1 based on the BaSTI stellar isochrones. The super Li-rich giant TYC\,3251-581-1 has $\rm{A(Li)} = 3.51$, the average abundance of two lithium lines at $λ= 6708$ Å and 6104 Å based on the non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) analysis. The atmospheric parameters show that our target locates on the luminosity function bump. The low carbon isotopic ratio ($^{12}\rm{C}/^{13}\rm{C} = 9.0 $), a slow rotational velocity $v\sin i = 2.2\ \rm{km\,s}^{-1}$, and no sign of IR excess suggest that additional mixing after first dredge up (FDU) should occur to bring internal synthesized Li to the surface. The low carbon ($[\rm{C}/\rm{Fe}] \sim -0.34$ ) and enhanced nitrogen ($[\rm{N}/\rm{Fe}] \sim 0.33$) are also consistent with the sign of mixing. Given the evolutionary stage of TYC\,3251-581-1 with the relatively low $^{12}\rm{C}/^{13}\rm{C}$, the internal production which replenishes Li in the outer layer is the most likely origin of Li enhancement for this star.

Chemical abundances of primary stars in the Sirius-like binary systems

Study of primary stars lying in Sirius-like systems with various masses of WD companions and orbital separations is one of the key aspects to understand the origin and nature of Barium (Ba) stars. In this paper, based on high resolution and high S/N spectra, we present systematic analysis of photospheric abundances for 18 FGK primary stars of Sirius-like systems including six giants and 12 dwarfs. Atmospheric parameters, stellar masses, and abundances of 24 elements (C, Na, Mg, Al, Si, S, K, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Sr, Y, Zr, Ba, La, Ce and Nd) are determined homogeneously. The abundance patterns in these sample stars show that most of the elements in our sample follow the behavior of field stars with similar metallicity. As expected, s-process elements in four known Ba giants show overabundance. A weak correlation was found between anomalies of s-process elemental abundance and orbital separation, suggesting the orbital separation of the binaries could not be the main constraint to differentiate strong Ba stars from mild Ba stars. Our study shows that the large mass (>0.51 M ) of a WD companion in a binary system is not a sufficient condition to form a Ba star, even if the separation between the two components is small. Although not sufficient it seems to be a necessary condition since Ba stars with lower mass WDs in the observed sample were not found. Our results support that [s/Fe] and [hs/ls] ratios of Ba stars are anti-correlated with the metallicity. However, the different levels of s-process overabundance among Ba stars may not to be dominated mainly by the metallicity.

Three new barium dwarfs with WD companions: BD+68 1027, RE J0702+129 and BD+80 670

We report three new barium (Ba) dwarfs lying in Sirius-like systems, which provides direct evidence that Ba dwarfs are companions to white dwarfs (WDs). Atmospheric parameters, stellar masses, and chemical abundances of 25 elements, including light, $α$, Fe-peak and s-process elements, are derived from high resolution and high S/N spectra. Enhancement of s-process elements with [s/Fe] ratios between 0.4 and 0.6 confirm them as mild barium stars. The estimated metallicities ($-$0.31, $-$0.06, 0.13) of BD+68$^\circ$1027, RE~J0702+129 and BD+80$^\circ$670 are in the range of known Ba dwarfs and giants. As expected, observed indices of [hs/ls], [s/Fe] and [C/Fe] show anticorrelation with metallicity. AGB progenitor masses are estimated for the WD companions of RE~J0702+129 (1.47 $M_{\odot}$) and BD+80$^\circ$670 (3.59 $M_{\odot}$), which confirms the predicted range of progenitor AGB masses (1.5 $\sim$ 4 $M_{\odot}$) for unseen WDs around Ba dwarfs. Surface abundances of s-process elements in RE~J0702+129 and BD+80$^\circ$670 are compared with AGB models and they are in close agreement, within predicted accretion efficiencies and pollution factors for Ba stars. These results support that the origin of s-process overabundances in Ba dwarfs is similar to Ba giants via McClure hypothesis in which Ba stars accumulate s-process elements through mass transfer from their host companions during AGB phase.

Systematic non-LTE study of the $-2.6 \le$ [Fe/H] $\le 0.2$ F and G dwarfs in the solar neighbourhood. II. Abundance patterns from Li to Eu

For the first time, we present an extensive study of stars with individual non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) abundances for 17 chemical elements from Li to Eu in a sample of stars uniformly distributed over the $-2.62 \le$ [Fe/H] $\le +0.24$ metallicity range that is suitable for the Galactic chemical evolution research. The star sample has been kinematically selected to trace the Galactic thin and thick disks and halo. We find new and improve earlier results as follows. (i) The element-to-iron ratios for Mg, Si, Ca, and Ti form a MP plateau at a similar height of 0.3~dex, and the knee occurs at common [Fe/H] $\simeq -0.8$. The knee at the same metallicity is observed for [O/Fe], and the MP plateau is formed at [O/Fe] = 0.61. (ii) The upward trend of [C/O] with decreasing metallicity exists at [Fe/H] $< -1.2$, supporting the earlier finding of Akerman et al. (iii) An underabundance of Na relative to Mg in the [Fe/H] $< -1$ stars is nearly constant, with the mean [Na/Mg] $\simeq -0.5$. (iv) The K/Sc, Ca/Sc, and Ti/Sc ratios form well-defined trends, suggesting a common site of the K-Ti production. (v) Sr follows the Fe abundance down to [Fe/H] $\simeq -2.5$, while Zr is enhanced in MP stars. (vi) The comparisons of our results with some widely used Galactic evolution models are given. The use of the NLTE element abundances raises credit to the interpretation of the data in the context of the chemical evolution of the Galaxy.

Chiral extrapolation beyond the power-counting regime

Chiral effective field theory can provide valuable insight into the chiral physics of hadrons when used in conjunction with non-perturbative schemes such as lattice QCD. In this discourse, the attention is focused on extrapolating the mass of the rho meson to the physical pion mass in quenched QCD (QQCD). With the absence of a known experimental value, this serves to demonstrate the ability of the extrapolation scheme to make predictions without prior bias. By using extended effective field theory developed previously, an extrapolation is performed using quenched lattice QCD data that extends outside the chiral power-counting regime (PCR). The method involves an analysis of the renormalization flow curves of the low energy coefficients in a finite-range regularized effective field theory. The analysis identifies an optimal regulator, which is embedded in the lattice QCD data themselves. This optimal regulator is the regulator value at which the renormalization of the low energy coefficients is approximately independent of the range of quark masses considered. By using recent precision, quenched lattice results, the extrapolation is tested directly by truncating the analysis to a set of points above 380 MeV, while being blinded of the results probing deeply into the chiral regime. The result is a successful extrapolation to the chiral regime.

Overlap Valence on 2+1 Flavor Domain Wall Fermion Configurations with Deflation and Low-mode Substitution

The overlap fermion propagator is calculated on 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations on 16^3 x 32, 24^3 x 64 and 32^3 x 64 lattices. With HYP smearing and low eigenmode deflation, it is shown that the inversion of the overlap operator can be expedited by ~ 20 times for the 16^3 x 32 lattice and ~ 80 times for the 32^3 x 64 lattice. Through the study of hyperfine splitting, we found that the O(m^2a^2) error is small and these dynamical fermion lattices can adequately accommodate quark mass up to the charm quark. The low energy constant Δ_{mix} which characterizes the discretization error of the pion made up of a pair of sea and valence quarks in this mixed action approach is calculated via the scalar correlator with periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions. It is found to be small which shifts a 300 MeV pion mass by ~ 10 to 19 MeV on these sets of lattices. We have studied the signal-to-noise issue of the noise source for the meson and baryon. It is found that the many-to-all meson and baryon correlators with Z_3 grid source and low eigenmode substitution is efficient in reducing errors for the correlators of both mesons and baryons. With 64-point Z_3 grid source and low-mode substitution, it can reduce the statistical errors of the light quark (m_π ~ 200 - 300 MeV) meson and nucleon correlators by a factor of ~ 3-4 as compared to the point source. The Z_3 grid source itself can reduce the errors of the charmonium correlators by a factor of ~ 3.

Meson spectra from overlap fermion on domain wall gauge configurations

We report meson spectra obtained by using valence overlap fermion propagators generated on a background of 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations on 16^3 X 32, 24^3 X 64 and 32^3 X 64 lattices. We use many-to-all correlators with Z3 grid source and low eigenmode substitution which is efficient in reducing errors for the hadron correlators. The preliminary results on meson spectrum, a0 correlators, and charmonium hyperfine splitting for three sea quark masses are reported here.

The charmed-strange meson spectrum from overlap fermions on domain wall dynamical fermion configurations

The charmed-strange meson spectrum is calculated with the overlap valence fermions on 2+1 flavor domain wall dynamical configurations for $32^3\times 64$ lattices with a spatial size of 2.7 fm. Both charm and strange quark propagators are calculated with the overlap fermion action. The calculated scalar meson at 2304(22) MeV and axial-vector meson at 2546(27) MeV are in good agreement with the experimental masses of $D{s0}^*$(2317) and $D_{s1}$(2536).

Role of the Wilson mass parameter in the overlap Dirac topological charge density

The negative Wilson mass parameter is an input parameter to the overlap Dirac operator. We examine the extent to which the topological charge density, revealed by the overlap definition, depends on the value of the negative Wilson mass. A strong dependence is observed, which can be correlated with the topological charge density obtained from the gluonic definition, with a variable number of stout-link smearing sweeps. The results indicate that the freedom typically associated with fat-link fermion actions, through the number of smearing sweeps, is also present in the overlap formalism, through the freedom in the Wilson mass parameter.

Impact of stout-link smearing in lattice fermion actions

The impact of stout-link smearing in lattice fermion actions is examined through the consideration of the mass and renormalization functions of the overlap quark propagator over a variety of smeared configurations. Up to six sweeps of stout-link smearing are investigated. For heavy quark masses, the quark propagator is strongly affected by the smearing procedure. For moderate masses, the effect appears to be negligible. A small effect is seen for light quark masses, where dynamical mass generation is suppressed through the smearing procedure.

Stout-link smearing in lattice fermion actions

The properties of the momentum space quark propagator in Landau gauge are studied for the overlap quark action in quenched lattice QCD. Numerical calculations are performed over four ensembles of gauge configurations, where three are smeared using either 1, 3, or 6 sweeps of stout-link smearing. We calculate the non-perturbative wave function renormalization function $Z(p)$ and the non-perturbative mass function $M(p)$ for a variety of bare quark masses. We find that the wave-function renormalization function is slightly sensitive to the number of stout-link smearing sweeps. For the mass function we find the effect of the stout-link smearing algorithm to be small for moderate to light bare quark masses. For a heavy bare quark mass we find a strong dependence on the number of smearing sweeps.

Precision electromagnetic structure of decuplet baryons in the chiral regime

The electromagnetic properties of the baryon decuplet are calculated in quenched QCD on a 20^3 x 40 lattice with a lattice spacing of 0.128 fm using the fat-link irrelevant clover (FLIC) fermion action with quark masses providing a pion mass as low as 300 MeV. Magnetic moments and charge radii are extracted from the electric and magnetic form factors for each individual quark sector. From these, the corresponding baryon properties are constructed. We present results for the higher order moments of the spin-3/2 baryons, including the electric quadrupole moment E2 and the magnetic octupole moment M3. The world's first determination of a non-zero M3 form factor for the Delta baryon is presented. With these results we provide a conclusive analysis which shows that decuplet baryons are deformed. We compare the decuplet baryon results from a similar lattice calculation of the octet baryons. We establish that the environment sensitivity is far less pronounced in the case of the decuplet baryons compared to that in the octet baryons. A surprising result is that the charge radii of the decuplet baryons are generally smaller than that of the octet baryons. The magnetic moment of the Delta^+ reveals a turn over in the low quark mass region, making it smaller than the proton magnetic moment. These results are consistent with the expectations of quenched chiral perturbation theory. A similar turn over is also noticed in the magnetic moment of the Sigma^*0, but not for Xi^* where only kaon loops can appear in quenched QCD. The electric quadrupole moment of the Omega^- baryon is positive when the negative charge factor is included, and is equal to 0.86 +- 0.12 x 10^-2 fm^2, indicating an oblate shape.
