Everything you always wanted to know about SUSY, but were afraid to ask

New experimental tests of nuclear supersymmetry are suggested. They involve the measurement of one- and two-nucleon transfer reactions between nuclei that belong to the same supermultiplet. These reactions provide a direct test of the `fermionic' sector, i.e. of the operators that change a boson into a fermion or vice versa. We present some theoretical predictions for the supersymmetric quartet of nuclei: 194Pt, 195Pt, 195Au and 196Au.

Phase transitions and critical points in the rare-earth region

A systematic study of isotope chains in the rare--earth region is presented. For the chains (144-154)Nd, (146-160)Sm, (148-162)Gd, and (150-166)Dy, energy levels, E2 transition rates, and two--neutron separation energies are described by using the most general (up to two--body terms) IBM Hamiltonian. For each isotope chain a general fit is performed in such a way that all parameters but one are kept fixed to describe the whole chain. In this region nuclei evolve from spherical to deformed shapes and a method based on catastrophe theory, in combination with a coherent state analysis to generate the IBM energy surfaces, is used to identify critical phase transition points.

Boson-conserving one-nucleon transfer operator in the interacting boson model

The boson-conserving one-nucleon transfer operator in the interacting boson model (IBA) is reanalyzed. Extra terms are added to the usual form used for that operator. These new terms change generalized seniority by one unit, as the ones considered up to now. The results obtained using the new form for the transfer operator are compared with those obtained with the traditional form in a simple case involving the pseudo-spin Bose-Fermi symmetry $U^{B}(6) \otimes U^F(12)$ in its $U^{BF}(5) \otimes U^F(2)$ limit. Sizeable differences are found. These results are of relevance in the study of transfer reactions to check nuclear supersymmetry and in the description of (β)-decay within IBA.

Single-Particle Transfer and Nuclear Supersymmetry. Pick-Up and Stripping with SUSY

Transfer reactions constitute a stringent test for nuclear supersymmetry, a theory that simultaneously describes neighboring nuclei with bosonic and fermionic character. We construct and analytically evaluate one-nucleon transfer matrix elements between supersymmetric partners with the U(6/4) case as an example, and stress the need for a careful treatment of bosonic and fermionic operators in the construction of mixed tensor operators.
