Angular analysis of the low $K^{+}K^{-}$ invariant mass enhancement in $B^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}$ decays

We study the decay $B^{+} \to K^+ K^- \pi^+$ and investigate the angular distribution of $K^{+}K^{-}$ pairs with invariant mass below $1.1$ GeV/$c^2$. This region exhibits both a strong enhancement in signal and very large direct $CP$ violation. We construct a coherent sum model for the angular distribution of $S$- and $P$-wave, and report the ratio of their amplitudes, the relative phase and the forward-backward asymmetry. We also report absolute differential branching fractions and direct $CP$ asymmetry for the decay in bins of $M_{K^+K^-}$ and the differential branching fractions in bins of $M_{K^+\pi^-}$. The results are based on a data sample that contains $772\times10^6$ $B \bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The measured overall branching fraction and the direct $CP$ asymmetry are $(5.38\pm0.40\pm0.35)\times 10^{-6}$ and $-0.170\pm0.073\pm0.017$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Study of $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}h^{-} (h=K/π)$ decays at Belle

We present a measurement of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo favored $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}$ and the Cabibbo suppressed $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-}$ decays. We find $\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}) = (2.48 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.04) \times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-})= (2.03 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.03) \times 10^{-4}$ decays, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third uncertainty is due to the $D^{+} \rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}$ branching fraction. The ratio of branching fractions of $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-}$ and $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}$ is measured to be $R^{D} = [8.19 \pm 0.20(\rm stat) \pm 0.23(\rm syst)] \times 10^{-2} $. These measurements are performed using the full Belle data set, which corresponds to $772 \times 10^{6} B\overline{B} $ pairs.

Measurement of ${\mathcal B}$($B_s \rightarrow D_s X$) with $B_s$ Semileptonic Tagging

We report the first direct measurement of the inclusive branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ via $B_s$ tagging in $e^+e^-\toΥ$(5S) events. Tagging is accomplished through a partial reconstruction of semileptonic decays $B_s \rightarrow D_s X \ell ν$, where $X$ denotes unreconstructed additional hadrons or photons and $\ell$ is an electron or muon. With 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ$(5S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider, we obtain ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ = $(60.2 \pm 5.8 \pm 2.3)$\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Search for the decay $B_s^0\rightarrowηη$

We report results from a search for the decay $B_s^0\rightarrowηη$ using 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We do not observe any signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of $14.3\times 10^{-5}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. This result represents a significant improvement over the previous most stringent limit.

Measurements of $q^2$ Moments of Inclusive $B \rightarrow X_c \ell^+ ν_{\ell}$ Decays with Hadronic Tagging

We present the measurement of the first to fourth order moments of the four-momentum transfer squared, $q^2$, of inclusive $B \rightarrow X_c \ell^+ ν_{\ell}$ decays using the full Belle data set of 711 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance where $\ell = e, μ$. The determination of these moments and their systematic uncertainties open new pathways to determine the absolute value of the CKM matrix element $V_{cb}$ using a reduced set of matrix elements of the heavy quark expansion. In order to identify and reconstruct the $X_c$ system, we reconstruct one of the two $B$-mesons using machine learning techniques in fully hadronic decay modes. The moments are measured with progressively increasing threshold selections on $q^2$ starting with a lower value of 3.0 $\mathrm{GeV}^2$ in steps of 0.5 $\mathrm{GeV}^2$ up to a value of 10.0 $\mathrm{GeV}^2$. The measured moments are further unfolded, correcting for reconstruction and selection effects as well as QED final state radiation. We report the moments separately for electron and muon final states and observe no lepton flavor universality violating effects.

Measurement of Differential Branching Fractions of Inclusive ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ Decays

The first measurements of differential branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ decays are performed using the full Belle data set of 711 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance and for $\ell = e, μ$. Differential branching fractions are reported as a function of the lepton momentum, the four-momentum-transfer squared, light-cone momenta, the hadronic mass, and the hadronic mass squared. They are obtained by subtracting the backgrounds from semileptonic ${B \to X_c \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ decays and other processes, and corrected for resolution and acceptance effects. The measured distributions are compared to predictions from inclusive and hybrid ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ calculations.

Search for $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$ ($\ell=e,μ$) with a hadronic tagging method at Belle

We present a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$, where $\ell=(e,\,μ)$, using the full data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B \overline{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We use events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The $τ^\pm$ lepton is reconstructed indirectly using the momentum of the reconstructed $B$ and that of the $\ell^\mp$ from the signal decay. We find no evidence for $B^{0} \to τ^\pm \ell^\mp$ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level of $\cal B$($B^{0} \to τ^\pm μ^{\mp}$)$ < 1.5 \times 10^{-5}$ and $\cal B$($B^{0} \to τ^\pm e^{\mp}$)$ < 1.6 \times 10^{-5}$.

Measurement of the branching fraction and $CP$ asymmetry for $B\to\bar{D}^{0} \pi$ decays

We measure the branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for the decays $B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{0}$ and $B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{+}$, using a data sample of $772\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The branching fractions obtained and direct $CP$ asymmetries are $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{0}) = [2.70 \pm 0.06~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{+}) = [4.53 \pm 0.02~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.15~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-3}$, $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{0}) = [+0.42 \pm 2.05~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 1.22~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$, and $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{+}) = [+0.19 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.57~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$. The measurements of $\mathcal{B}$ are the most precise to date and are in good agreement with previous results, as is the measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{+})$. The measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}$ for $B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}\pi^{0}$ is the first for this mode, and the value is consistent with Standard Model expectations.

Search for $B^0$ meson decays into $\Lambda$ and missing energy with a hadronic tagging method at Belle

We present a search for the decays of $B^0$ mesons into a final state containing a $\Lambda$ baryon and missing energy. These results are obtained from a $711\text{fb}^{-1}$ data sample that contains $772 \times 10^6$ $B{\kern 0.18em}\overline{\kern -0.18em B}$ pairs and was collected near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We use events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode and require the remainder of the event to consist of only a single $\Lambda$. No evidence for these decays is found and we set $90\%$ confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range $2.1$-$3.8\times 10^{-5}$. This measurement provides the world's most restrictive limits, with implications for baryogenesis and dark matter production.

Search for the decay $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}\tau^{+}\tau^{-}$ at the Belle experiment

This letter presents a search for the rare flavor-changing neutral current process $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}\tau^{+}\tau^{-}$ using data taken with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The analysis is based on the entire $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance data sample of 711 $\rm fb^{-1}$, corresponding to $772\times 10^{6} B \bar{B}$ pairs. In our search we fully reconstruct the companion $B$ meson produced in the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\Upsilon(4S)\rightarrow B\bar{B}$ from its hadronic decay modes, and look for the decay $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}\tau^{+}\tau^{-}$ in the rest of the event. No evidence for a signal is found. We report an upper limit on the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}({B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}\tau^{+}\tau^{-}})<3.1\times 10^{-3}$ at 90\% confidence level. This is the first direct limit on $\mathcal{B}({B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}\tau^{+}\tau^{-}})$.

Measurement of the branching fraction of $Λ_c^+ \to p ω$ decay at Belle

Using 980.6 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we present a measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+ \to p ω$. A clear $Λ_c^+$ signal is observed for $Λ_c^+ \to p ω$ with a statistical significance of 9.1 standard deviations, and we measure the ratio of branching fractions ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p ω)/{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^- π^+) = (1.32 \pm 0.12 (\rm stat) \pm 0.10 (\rm syst))\times 10^{-2}$, from which we infer the branching fraction ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p ω) = (8.27 \pm 0.75 (\rm stat) \pm 0.62 (\rm syst) \pm 0.42 (\rm ref))\times 10^{-4}$. The first quoted uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the reference mode $Λ_c^+ \to p K^- π^+$.

Search for $Z^{'} \rightarrow \mu^{+} \mu^{-}$ in the $L_\mu {-} L_\tau$ gauge-symmetric model at Belle

We search for a new gauge boson $Z'$ that couples only to heavy leptons and their corresponding neutrinos in the process $e^{+} e^{-} \rightarrow Z'(\rightarrow \mu^{+}\mu^{-}) \mu^{+}\mu^{-}$, using a 643 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected by the Belle experiment at or near the $\Upsilon(1S,2S,3S,4S,5S)$ resonances at the KEKB collider. For the first time, effects due to initial state radiation are used in estimating the detection efficiency. No signal is observed in the mass range of 0.212 \ -- 10 GeV/${\it c}^2$ and we set an upper limit on the coupling strengh, $g'$, constraining $Z'$ as a possible contributor to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of muon.

Measurement of branching fractions and search for $CP$ violation in $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$, $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and $D^{0}\toϕη$ at Belle

We measure the branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$, $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and $D^{0}\toϕη$, using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data from the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We obtain \begin{eqnarray} \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [1.22\pm 0.02\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.02\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.03\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-3}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [1.80\,^{+0.07}_{-0.06}\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.04\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toϕη) & = & [1.84\pm 0.09\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.06\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the third uncertainty ($\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref}$) is from the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the reference mode $D^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η$. The color-suppressed decay $D^{0}\toϕη$ is observed for the first time, with very high significance. The results for the $CP$ asymmetries are \begin{eqnarray} A_{CP}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [0.9\pm 1.2\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.5\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [-1.4\pm 3.3\,({\rm stat})\pm 1.1\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\toϕη)&= & [-1.9\pm 4.4\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.6\,({\rm syst})]\%\,. \nonumber \end{eqnarray} The results for $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$ are a significant improvement over previous results. The branching fraction and $A_{CP}$ results for $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and the $A_{CP}$ result for $D^{0}\toϕη$, are the first such measurements. No evidence for $CP$ violation is found in any of these decays.

Measurement of the Masses and Widths of the $Σ_c(2455)^+$ and $Σ_c(2520)^+$ Baryons

Using 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data {collected} with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we report the measurements of the masses, and the first measurements of the instrinsic widths, of the $Σ_c(2455)^+$ and $Σ_c(2520)^+$ charmed baryons. We find $M(Σ_c(2455)^+)-M(Λ_c^+) = 166.17\pm 0.05^{+0.16}_{-0.07}\ {\rm MeV}/c^2$, $Γ(Σ_c(2455)^+) = 2.3 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.3\ {\rm MeV/c^2}$, $M(Σ_c(2520)^+)-M(Λ_c^+) = 230.9 \pm 0.5 ^{+0.5}_{-0.1}\ {\rm MeV}/c^2$, and $Γ(Σ_c(2520)^+) = 17.2^{+2.3\ +3.1}_{-2.1\ -0.7}\ {\rm MeV}/c^2$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These measurements can be used to test models of the underlying quark structure of the $Σ_c$ states.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau-lepton decays to $\ellγ$ at Belle

Charged lepton flavor violation is forbidden in the Standard Model but possible in several new physics scenarios. In many of these models, the radiative decays $τ^{\pm}\rightarrow\ell^{\pm}γ$ ($\ell=e,μ$) are predicted to have a sizeable probability, making them particularly interesting channels to search at various experiments. An updated search via $τ^{\pm}\rightarrow\ell^{\pm}γ$ using full data of the Belle experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb$^{-1}$, is reported for charged lepton flavor violation. No significant excess over background predictions from the Standard Model is observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions, $\mathcal{B}(τ^{\pm}\rightarrow μ^{\pm}γ)$ $\leq$ $4.2\times10^{-8}$ and $\mathcal{B}(τ^{\pm}\rightarrow e^{\pm}γ)$ $\leq$ $5.6\times10^{-8}$, are set at 90\% confidence level.

An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the $\tau$ lepton

We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the $\tau$ lepton ($d_\tau$) using an 833~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of $d_\tau$ as ${\rm Re}(d_\tau) = ( -0.62 \pm 0.63 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}$ and ${\rm Im}(d_\tau) = ( -0.40 \pm 0.32 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}$, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.

Measurements of the branching fractions of the semileptonic decays $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ and the asymmetry parameter of $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^{+}$

Using data samples of 89.5 and 711 fb$^{-1}$ recorded at energies of $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ and $10.58$ GeV, respectively, with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider, we report measurements of branching fractions of semileptonic decays $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$) and the $CP$-asymmetry parameter of $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^{+}$ decay. The branching fractions are measured to be ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})=(1.31 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.38)\%$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)=(1.27 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.37)\%$, and the decay parameter $α_{Ξπ}$ is measured to be $0.63 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.01$ with much improved precision compared to the current world average. The corresponding ratio ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)$ is $1.03 \pm 0.05\pm 0.07$, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton flavor universality. The first measured asymmetry parameter ${\cal A}_{CP} = (α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}} + α_{\barΞ^{+}π^{-}})/(α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}} - α_{\barΞ^{+}π^{-}}) = 0.024 \pm 0.052 \pm 0.014$ is found to be consistent with zero. The first and the second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise due to the uncertainty of the $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^+$ branching fraction.

Study of $χ_{bJ}(nP) \rightarrow ωΥ(1S)$ at Belle

We report results from a study of hadronic transitions of the $χ_{bJ}(nP)$ states of bottomonium at Belle. The $P$-wave states are reconstructed in transitions to the $Υ(1S)$ with the emission of an $ω$ meson. The transitions of the $n=2$ triplet states provide a unique laboratory in which to study nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, as the kinematic threshold for production of an $ω$ and $Υ(1S)$ lies between the $J=0$ and $J=1$ states. A search for the $χ_{bJ}(3P)$ states is also reported.
