Super Extensions of the Short Pulse Equation

From a super extension of the Wadati, Konno and Ichikawa scheme for integrable systems and using a $\mathrm{osp(1,2)}$ valued connection 1-form we obtain super generalizations for the Short Pulse equation as well for the Elastic Beam equation.

On a Non-local Gas Dynamics Like Integrable Hierarchy

We study a new non-local hierarchy of equations of the isentropic gas dynamics type where the pressure is a non-local function of the density. We show that the hierarchy of equations is integrable. We construct the two compatible Hamiltonian structures and show that the first structure has three distinct Casimirs while the second has one. The existence of Casimirs allows us to extend the flows to local ones. We construct an infinite series of commuting local Hamiltonians as well as three infinite series (related to the three Casimirs) of non-local charges. We discuss the zero curvature formulation of the system where we obtain a simple expression for the non-local conserved charges, which also clarifies the existence of the three series from a Lie algebraic point of view. We point out that the non-local hierarchy of Hunter-Zheng equations can be obtained from our non-local flows when the dynamical variables are properly constrained.

Supersymmetric and Deformed Harry Dym hierarchies

In this talk, we describe our recent results on the supersymmetrization of the Harry Dym hierarchy as well as a newly constructed deformed Harry Dym hierarchy which is integrable with two arbitrary parameters. In various limits of these parameters, the deformed hierarchy reduces to various known integrable systems.

Deformed Harry Dym and Hunter-Zheng Equations

We study the deformed Harry Dym and Hunter-Zheng equations with two arbitrary deformation parameters. These reduce to various other known models in appropriate limits. We show that both these systems are bi-Hamiltonian with the same Hamiltonian structures. They are integrable and belong to the same hierarchy corresponding to positive and negative flows. We present the Lax pair description for both the systems and construct the conserved charges of negative order from the Lax operator. For the deformed Harry Dym equation, we construct the non-standard Lax representation for two special classes of values of the deformation parameters. In general, we argue that a non-standard description will involve a pseudo-differential operator of infinite order.

Supersymmetric Extensions of the Harry Dym Hierarchy

We study the supersymmetric extensions of the Harry Dym hierarchy of equations. We obtain the susy-B extension, the doubly susy-B extension as well as the N=1 and the N=2 supersymmetric extensions for this system. The N=2 supersymmetric extension is particularly interesting, since it leads to new classical integrable systems in the bosonic limit. We prove the integrability of these systems through the bi-Hamiltonian formulation of integrable models and through the Lax description. We also discuss the supersymmetric extension of the Hunter-Zheng equation which belongs to the Harry Dym hierarchy of equations.

A Lax Equation for the Non-Linear Sigma Model

We propose a Lax equation for the non-linear sigma model which leads directly to the conserved local charges of the system. We show that the system has two infinite sets of such conserved charges following from the Lax equation, much like dispersionless systems. We show that the system has two Hamiltonian structures which are compatible so that it is truly a bi-Hamiltonian system. However, the two Hamiltonian structures act on the two distinct sets of charges to give the dynamical equations, which is quite distinct from the behavior in conventional integrable systems. We construct two recursion operators which connect the conserved charges within a given set as well as between the two sets. We show explicitly that the conserved charges are in involution with respect to either of the Hamiltonian structures thereby proving complete integrability of the system. Various other interesting features are also discussed.

Dispersionless Limit of Integrable Models

Nonlinear dispersionless equations arise as the dispersionless limit of well know integrable hierarchies of equations or by construction, such as the system of hydrodynamic type. Some of these equations are integrable in the Hamiltonian sense and appear in the study of topological minimal models. In the first part of the review we will give a brief introduction to integrable models, mainly its Lax representation. Then, we will introduce the dispersionless limit and show some of our results concerning the two-component hyperbolic system of equations such as the polytropic gas and Born-Infeld equations.

On the Integrability of a Class of Monge-Ampere Equations

We give the Lax representations for for the elliptic, hyperbolic and homogeneous second order Monge-Ampere equations. The connection between these equations and the equations of hydrodynamical type give us a scalar dispersionless Lax representation. A matrix dispersive Lax representation follows from the correspondence between sigma models, a two parameter equation for minimal surfaces and Monge-Ampere equations. Local as well nonlocal conserved densities are obtained.

Non-Local Charges and their Algebra in Topological Field Theory

With the third order Monge-Ampère equation as an example, we show that there exists an infinite number of nonlocal conserved charges associated with the Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations. A general prescription for the construction of these charges is given and the charge algebra is calculated bringing out various other interesting features associated with such systems.

A Lax Representation for the Born-Infeld Equation

We study the Born-Infeld equation from a Lagrangian point of view emphasizing the duality symmetry present in such systems. We obtain the Hamiltonian formulation directly from the Lagrangian. We also show that this system admits a dispersionless nonstandard Lax representation which directly leads to all the conserved charges (including the ones not previously obtained). We also present the generating function for these charges and point out various other properties of this system.

Integrable Models and the Higher Dimensional Representations of Graded Lie Algebras

We construct a zero curvature formulation, in superspace, for the sTB-B hierarchy which naturally reduces to the zero curvature condition in terms of components, thus solving one of the puzzling features of this model. This analysis, further, suggests a systematic method of constructing higher dimensional representations for the zero curvature condition starting with the fundamental representation. We illustrate this with the examples of the sTB hierarchy and the sKdV hierarchy. This would be particularly useful in constructing explicit higher dimensional representations of graded Lie algebras.

A Lax Description for Polytropic Gas Dynamics

We give a Lax description for the system of polytropic gas equations. The special structure of the Lax function naturally leads to the two infinite sets of conserved charges associated with this system. We obtain closed form expressions for the conserved charges as well as the generating functions for them. We show how the study of these generating functions can naturally lead to the recursion relation between the conserved quantities as well as the higher order Hamiltonian structures.

The sTB-B Hierarchy

We construct a new supersymmetric two boson (sTB-B) hierarchy and study its properties. We derive the conserved quantities and the Hamiltonian structures (proving the Jacobi identity) for the system. We show how this system gives the sKdV-B equation and its Hamiltonian structures upon appropriate reduction. We also describe the zero curvature formulation of this hierarchy both in the superspace as well as in components.

Hamiltonian Structures for the Generalized Dispersionless KdV Hierarchy

We study from a Hamiltonian point of view the generalized dispersionless KdV hierarchy of equations. From the so called dispersionless Lax representation of these equations we obtain three compatible Hamiltonian structures. The second and third Hamiltonian structures are calculated directly from the r-matrix approach. Since the third structure is not related recursively with the first two ones the generalized dispersionless KdV hierarchy can be characterized as a truly tri-Hamiltonian system.

The Supersymmetric Two Boson Hierarchy

We summarize all the known properties of the supersymmetric integrable Two Boson equation. We present its nonstandard Lax formulation and tri-Hamiltonian structure, its reduction to the supersymmetric nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the local as well as nonlocal conserved charges. We also present the algebra of the conserved charges and identify its second Hamiltonian structure with the twisted $N=2$ superconformal algebra.

Supersymmetric Two Boson Equation, Its Reductions and the Nonstandard Supersymmetric KP Hierarchy

In this paper, we review various properties of the supersymmetric Two Boson (sTB) system. We discuss the equation and its nonstandard Lax representation. We construct the local conserved charges as well as the Hamiltoniam structures of the system. We show how this system leads to various other known supersymmetric integrable models under appropriate field redefinition. We discuss the sTB and the supersymmetric nonlinear Schrödinger (sNLS) equations as constrained, nonstandard supersymmetric Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (sKP) systems and point out that the nonstandard sKP systems naturally unify all the KP and mKP flows while leading to a new integrable supersymmetrization of the KP equation. We construct the nonlocal conserved charges associated with the sTB system and show that the algebra of charges corresponds to a graded, cubic algebra. We also point out that the sTB system has a hidden supersymmetry making it an $N=2$ extended supersymmetric system.
