Generalized Neumann boundary condition for the scalar field

In this paper, we explore the Klein-Gordon field theory in $(D+1)$ dimensions in the presence of a $(D-1)$-dimensional hyperplanar $\delta$-like potential that couples quadratically to the field derivatives. This model effectively generalizes the Neumann boundary condition for the scalar field on the plane, as it reduces to this condition in an appropriate limit of the coupling parameter. Specifically, we calculate the modifications to the Feynman propagator induced by the planar potential and analyze the interaction energy between a stationary point-like source and the potential, obtaining a general and exact expression. We demonstrate that, under certain conditions relating the field mass and the coupling constant to the external potential, the vacuum state becomes unstable, giving rise to a pair-creation phenomenon that resembles the Schwinger effect in quantum electrodynamics.

Physical pendulum model: Fractional differential equation and memory effects

A detailed analysis of three pendular motion models is presented. Inertial effects, self-oscillation, and memory, together with non-constant moment of inertia, hysteresis and negative damping are shown to be required for the comprehensive description of the free pendulum oscillatory regime. The effects of very high initial amplitudes, friction in the roller bearing axle, drag, and pendulum geometry are also analysed and discussed. The model that consists of a fractional differential equation provides both the best explanation of, and the best fits to, experimental high resolution and long-time data gathered from standard action-camera videos.

Experimental observation of quantum entanglement in low dimensional spin systems

We report macroscopic magnetic measurements carried out in order to detect and characterize field-induced quantum entanglement in low dimensional spin systems. We analyze the pyroborate MgMnB_2O_5 and the and the warwickite MgTiOBO_3, systems with spin 5/2 and 1/2 respectively. By using the magnetic susceptibility as an entanglement witness we are able to quantify entanglement as a function of temperature and magnetic field. In addition, we experimentally distinguish for the first time a random singlet phase from a Griffiths phase. This analysis opens the possibility of a more detailed characterization of low dimensional materials.

Heat transfer in theory of relativity

The traditional Fourier equation just allows us to study the evolution of temperature in an "undeformable" bar. The search for its relativistic variant is a task which is expected to fail because in relativity there are no undeformable bars. Rigid bodies, in the sense of "as rigid as possible", are deformables. In this work we show how to write in relativity the system of equations necessary to study simultaneously deformation and temperature evolution along a rigid deformable bar. The solutions of the two simultaneous equations is discussed assuming convenient constitutive relations for the material. An application is presented.

The Relativistic Elasticity of Rigid Bodies

In 1909 Born studied the "relativistic undeformable body" but made the mistake of calling it "rigid". The "rigid body" as one can find in Relativity books is, in fact, this Born "undeformable body". In Relativity it is necessary to distinguish between "rigid" and "undeformable". The "undeformable" body (in the sense of the most rigid possible) must be the "deformable" body where schock waves propagate with maximum speed c. We present in this text the elastic laws for rigid bodies. We think that these laws, which are ignored by the majority of relativists, should be taught in the elementary relativistic courses. With the approach of 2005, the centenary year of Relativity, we should like to appeal to all those who have some influence on these matters to avoid this mistake of repeatedly calling "rigid" to the "undeformable body".

Heat transmission in Relativity

The simultaneous study of deformation and heat transmission in a bar was ignored for about 150 years. The traditional Fourier equation just allows to study the evolution of temperature in a undeformable bar. The search for its relativistic variant is a task which must fail because in Relativity there are no undeformable bars. Rigid bodies, in the sense as rigid as possible, are deformables. In this work we show how to write in Relativity the system of equations necessary to study simultaneously deformation and temperature evolution along a rigid bar.

How unique is the Asymptotic Normalisation Coefficient (ANC) method?

The asymptotic normalisation coefficients (ANC) for the vertex $^{10}$B $\to$ $^9$Be + p is deduced from a set of different proton transfer reactions at different energies. This set should ensure the peripheral character of the reaction and availability of data for the elastic channels. The problems associated with the characteristics of the data and the analysis are discussed. For a subgroup of the set of available data, the uniqueness property of the extracted ANC is fulfilled. However, more measurements are needed before a definite conclusion can be drawn.

Uncertainties in extracting $S_{17}$ from transfers

The transfer reaction $^7{\rm Be(d,n)}^8{\rm B}$ is modelled for the recent low experimental energies using the DWBA. Tests of the validity of the ANC method for the extraction of the $S_{17}$ astrophysical factor are performed. We show that a peripheral assumption is no longer accurate for center of mass energies greater than approximately 15 MeV. In all cases we found that core deformation and/or excitation effects to be small as long as the optical potential for the entrance channel is not strongly surface peaked. Multistep corrections to the DWBA were found to be small. We also emphasize that the lack of knowledge of the optical potentials for the entrance and outgoing channels induces severe uncertainties in the extracted $S_{17}$ astrophysical factor.
