The molecule ${\rm H}_2$ in a strong magnetic field revisited

A compact, few-parametric, physically adequate, 3-term variational trial function is used to calculate with high accuracy the energy of the ground state ${}^3Π_u$ of the hydrogen molecule ${\rm H}_2$ in strong magnetic field ${\bf B}$ in the range $5\times10^{10}\, {\rm G} \leq B \leq 10^{13}\,$G. The nuclei (protons) are assumed as infinitely massive (BO appproximation of zero order) and situated along the magnetic field line (parallel configuration).

Finite Hydrogenic molecular chain H$_3$ and ion H$_2^-$ exist in a strong magnetic field

The existence and stability of the linear hydrogenic chain H$_3$ and H${}_2^-$ in a strong magnetic field is established. Variational calculations for H$_3$ and H${}_2^-$ are carried out in magnetic fields in the range $10^{11}\leq B \leq 10^{13}\,$G with 17-parametric (13-parametric for H${}_2^-$), physically adequate trial function. Protons are assumed infinitely massive, fixed along the magnetic line. States with total spin projection $S_z=-3/2$ and magnetic quantum numbers $M=-3,-4,-5$ are studied. It is shown that for both H$_3$ and H${}_2^-$ the lowest energy state corresponds to $M=-3$ in the whole range of magnetic fields studied. As for a magnetic field $B \gtrsim 10^{11}\,$G both H$_3$ and H${}_2^-$ exist as metastable states, becoming stable for $B \geq 1.9 \times 10^{11}\,$G and for $B \geq 2.7 \times 10^{11}\,$G, respectively. The excited states $^4(-4)^+$, $^4(-5)^+$ of ${\rm H}_3$ and H${}_2^-$ appear at magnetic fields $B > 7 \times 10^{11}$ and $10^{12}$\,G, respectively.

The hydrogen molecule $\rm{H}_{2}$ in inclined configuration in a weak magnetic field

Highly accurate variational calculations, based on a few-parameter, physically adequate trial function, are carried out for the hydrogen molecule \hh in inclined configuration, where the molecular axis forms an angle $θ$ with respect to the direction of a uniform constant magnetic field ${\bf B}$, for $B=0,\, 0.1,\, 0.175$ and $0.2\,$a.u. Three inclinations $θ=0^\circ,\,45^\circ,\,90^\circ$ are studied in detail with emphasis to the ground state $1_g$. Diamagnetic and paramagnetic susceptibilities are calculated (for $θ=45^\circ$ for the first time), they are in agreement with the experimental data and with other calculations. For $B=0,\, 0.1$ and $0.2\,$a.u. potential energy curves $E$ vs $R$ are built for each inclination, they are interpolated by simple, two-point Padé approximant $Pade[2/6](R)$ with accuracy of not less than 4 significant digits. Spectra of rovibrational states are calculated for the first time. It was found that the optimal configuration of the ground state for $B \leq B_{cr}=0.178\,$a.u. corresponds always to the parallel configuration, $θ=0$, thus, it is a $^1Σ_g$ state. The state $1_g$ remains bound for any magnetic field, becoming metastable for $B > B_{cr}$, while for $B_{cr} < B < 12$\,a.u. the ground state corresponds to two isolated hydrogen atoms with parallel spins.

Cross-over in non-standard random-matrix spectral fluctuations without unfolding

Recently, the singular value decomposition (SVD) was applied to standard Gaussian ensembles of Random Matrix Theory (RMT) to determine the scale invariance in the spectral fluctuations without performing any unfolding procedure. Here, SVD is applied directly to the $ν$-Hermite ensemble and to a sparse matrix ensemble, decomposing the corresponding spectra in trend and fluctuation modes. In correspondence with known results, we obtain that fluctuation modes exhibit a cross-over between soft and rigid behavior. By using the trend modes we performed a data-adaptive unfolding, and we calculate traditional spectral fluctuation measures. Additionally, ensemble-averaged and individual-spectrum averaged statistics are calculated consistently within the same basis of normal modes.

Fourth-order superintegrable systems separating in Polar Coordinates. II. Standard Potentials

Superintegrable Hamiltonian systems in a two-dimensional Euclidean space are considered. We present all real standard potentials that allow separation of variables in polar coordinates and admit an independent fourth-order integral of motion. The general form of the potentials satisfies a linear ODE. In the classical case, the standard potentials coincide with the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz (TTW) or Post-Winternitz (PW) models. In the quantum case new superintegrable systems are obtained, in addition to the TTW and PW ones. Their classical limit is free motion.

Fourth order superintegrable systems separating in Polar Coordinates. I. Exotic Potentials

We present all real quantum mechanical potentials in a two-dimensional Euclidean space that have the following properties: 1. They allow separation of variables of the Schrödinger equation in polar coordinates, 2. They allow an independent fourth order integral of motion, 3. It turns out that their angular dependent part $S(θ)$ does not satisfy any linear differential equation. In this case it satisfies a nonlinear ODE that has the Painlevé property and its solutions can be expressed in terms of the Painlevé transcendent $P_6$. We also study the corresponding classical analogs of these potentials. The polynomial algebra of the integrals of motion is constructed in the classical case.

$F_4$ Quantum Integrable, rational and trigonometric models: space-of-orbits view

Algebraic-rational nature of the four-dimensional, $F_4$-invariant integrable quantum Hamiltonians, both rational and trigonometric, is revealed and reviewed. It was shown that being written in $F_4$ Weyl invariants, polynomial and exponential, respectively, both similarity-transformed Hamiltonians are in algebraic form, they are quite similar the second order differential operators with polynomial coefficients; the flat metric in the Laplace-Beltrami operator has polynomial (in invariants) matrix elements. Their potentials are calculated for the first time: they are meromorphic (rational) functions with singularities at the boundaries of the configuration space. Ground state eigenfunctions are algebraic functions in a form of polynomials in some degrees. Both Hamiltonians preserve the same infinite flag of polynomial spaces with characteristic vector $(1, 2, 2, 3)$, it manifests exact solvability. A particular integral common for both models is derived. The first polynomial eigenfunctions are presented explicitly.

Sutherland-type Trigonometric Models, Trigonometric Invariants and Multivariate Polynomials. III. $E_8$ case

It is shown that the $E_8$ trigonometric Olshanetsky-Perelomov Hamiltonian, when written in terms of the Fundamental Trigonometric Invariants (FTI), is in algebraic form, i.e., has polynomial coefficients, and preserves two infinite flags of polynomial spaces marked by the Weyl (co)-vector and $E_8$ highest root (both in the basis of simple roots) as characteristic vectors. The explicit form of the Hamiltonian in new variables has been obtained both by direct calculation and by means of the orbit function technique. It is shown a triangularity of the Hamiltonian in the bases of orbit functions and of algebraic monomials ordered through Weyl heights. Examples of first eigenfunctions are presented.

One-electron atomic-molecular ions containing Lithium in a strong magnetic field

The one-electron Li-containing Coulomb systems of atomic type $(li, e)$ and molecular type $(li, li, e)$, $(li, α, e)$ and $(li, p, e)$ are studied in the presence of a strong magnetic field $B \leq 10^{7}$ a.u. in the non-relativistic framework. They are considered at the Born-Oppenheimer approximation of zero order (infinitely massive centers) within the parallel configuration (molecular axis parallel to the magnetic field). The variational and Lagrange-mesh methods are employed in complement to each other. It is demonstrated that the molecular systems ${\rm LiH}^{3+}$, ${\rm LiHe}^{4+}$ and ${\rm Li}_{2}^{5+}$ can exist for sufficiently strong magnetic fields $B \gtrsim 10^{4}$ a.u. and that ${\rm Li}_{2}^{5+}$ can even be stable at magnetic fields typical of magnetars.

How good are the Garvey-Kelson predictions of nuclear masses?

The Garvey-Kelson relations are used in an iterative process to predict nuclear masses in the neighborhood of nuclei with measured masses. Average errors in the predicted masses for the first three iteration shells are smaller than those obtained with the best nuclear mass models. Their quality is comparable with the Audi-Wapstra extrapolations, offering a simple and reproducible procedure for short range mass predictions. A systematic study of the way the error grows as a function of the iteration and the distance to the known masses region, shows that a correlation exists between the error and the residual neutron-proton interaction, produced mainly by the implicit assumption that $V_{np}$ varies smoothly along the nuclear landscape.

Sutherland-type Trigonometric Models, Trigonometric Invariants and Multivariable Polynomials. II. $E_7$ case

It is shown that the $E_7$ trigonometric Olshanetsky-Perelomov Hamiltonian, when written in terms of the Fundamental Trigonometric Invariants (FTI), is in algebraic form, i.e., has polynomial coefficients, and preserves the infinite flag of polynomial spaces with the characteristic vector $\vec α= (1,2,2,2,3,3,4)$. Its flag coincides with one of the minimal characteristic vector for the $E_7$ rational model.

Hydrogen atom in a magnetic field: electromagnetic transitions of the lowest states

A detailed study of the lowest states $1s_0, 2p_{-1}, 2p_0$ of the hydrogen atom placed in a magnetic field $B\in(0-4.414\times 10^{13} {\rm G})$ and their electromagnetic transitions ($1s_{0} \leftrightarrow 2p_{-1}$ and $ 1s_{0} \leftrightarrow 2p_{0}$) is carried out in the Born Oppenheimer approximation. The variational method is used with a physically motivated recipe to design simple trial functions applicable to the whole domain of magnetic fields. We show that the proposed functions yield very accurate results for the ionization (binding) energies. Dipole and oscillator strengths are in good agreement with results by Ruder {\em et al.} \cite{Ruderbook} although we observe deviations up to $\sim 30%$ for the oscillator strength of the (linearly polarized) electromagnetic transition $1s_{0} \leftrightarrow 2p_{0}$ at strong magnetic fields $B\gtrsim 1000$ a.u.

The $H_3^+$ molecular ion in a magnetic field in linear parallel configuration

A first detailed study of the ground state of the H$_3^+$ molecular ion in linear configuration, parallel to a magnetic field direction, and its low-lying $\Si,Π,\De$ states is carried out for magnetic fields $B=0-4.414 \times 10^{13} $G in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The variational method is employed with a single trial function which includes electronic correlation in the form $\exp{(\ga r_{12})}$, where $\ga$ is a variational parameter. It is shown that the quantum numbers of the state of the lowest total energy (ground state) depend on the magnetic field strength. The ground state evolves from the spin-singlet ${}^1\Si_g$ state for weak magnetic fields $B \lesssim 5 \times 10^{8} $G to a weakly-bound spin-triplet ${}^3\Si_u$ state for intermediate fields and, eventually, to a spin-triplet $^3Π_u$ state for $5 \times 10^{10} \lesssim B \lesssim 4.414 \times 10^{13} $G. Local stability of the linear parallel configuration with respect to possible small deviations is checked.

About the existence of the exotic molecular ions $(HeH)^{2+}$ and $He_2^{3+}$ in a strong magnetic field

The Coulombic systems $(\al p e)$ and $(\al\al e)$, $(\al p p e)$, $(\al \al p e)$ and $(Li^{3+} Li^{3+} e)$ placed in a magnetic field $B \gtrsim 10^{11} {G}$ are studied. It is demonstrated a theoretical existence of the exotic ion $(He H)^{2+}$ for $B\gtrsim 5\times 10^{12} {G}$ in parallel configuration (the magnetic field is directed along internuclear axis) as optimal as well as its excited states $1π, 1δ$. As for the exotic ion ${He}_{2}^{3+}$ it is shown that in spite of strong electrostatic repulsion of $\al-$particles this ion can also exist for $B \gtrsim 100 {a.u.} (= 2.35\times 10^{11} {G})$ in parallel configuration as optimal in the states $1\si_g$ (ground state), $1π_u, 1δ_g$. Upon appearance both ions are unstable towards dissociation with $He^+$ in the final state but with very large lifetime. However, at $B\gtrsim 10000$ a.u. the ion $(He H)^{2+}$ becomes stable, while at $B\gtrsim 1000$ a.u. the ion ${He}_{2}^{3+}$ becomes stable. With a magnetic field growth, both exotic ions become more and more tightly bound and compact, their lowest rotational and vibrational energies grow. At the edge of applicability of non-relativistic approximation, $B \sim 4.414 \times 10^{13}$ G, there are indications that three more exotic linear ions $(H-He-H)^{3+}$, $(He-H-He)^{4+}$ and even $Li_2^{5+}$ in parallel configuration may also occur.

The exotic $H_3^{2+}$ ion in a strong magnetic field. Linear configuration

An accurate study of the lowest $1σ_g$ and the low-lying excited $1σ_u$, $1π_{u,g}$, $1δ_{g,u}$ electronic states of the exotic molecular ion $H_3^{2+}$ in linear configuration parallel to a magnetic field is carried out. The magnetic field ranges from $10^{10}$ G up to $4.414 \times 10^{13}$ G where non-relativistic considerations are justified. The variational method is exploited and the {\it same} trial function is used for different magnetic fields. It is shown that the states of positive $z$-parity $1σ_g, 1π_u, 1δ_{g}$ are bound states of the $H_3^{2+}$ exotic ion for all magnetic fields studied. We also demonstrate that for magnetic fields $B\gtrsim 2.35\times 10^{12}$ G the potential energy surface well corresponding to the $1σ_g$ state contains at least one longitudinal vibrational state. It is also shown that the negative $z$-parity states $1σ_u, 1π_g, 1δ_{u}$, are purely repulsive in the whole range of magnetic fields studied, $B=10^{10}- 4.414 \times 10^{13}$ G.

Boson Mapping in Field Theory

A boson mapping of pair field operators is presented. The mapping preserves all hermiticity properties and the Poisson bracket relations between fields and momenta. The most practical application of the boson mapping is to field theories which exhibit bound states of pairs of fields. As a concrete application we consider, in the low energy limit, the Wick-Cutkosky model with equal mass for the charged fields.
