Quantum Phase Transitions in periodically quenched systems

Quantum phase transitions encompass a variety of phenomena that occur in quantum systems exhibiting several possible symmetries. Traditionally, these transitions are explored by continuously varying a control parameter that connects two different symmetry configurations. Here we propose an alternative approach where the control parameter undergoes abrupt and time-periodic jumps between only two values. This approach yields results surprisingly similar to those obtained by the traditional one and may prove experimentally useful in situations where accessing the control parameter is challenging.

Quantum reinforcement learning in the presence of thermal dissipation

A study of the effect of thermal dissipation on quantum reinforcement learning is performed. For this purpose, a nondissipative quantum reinforcement learning protocol is adapted to the presence of thermal dissipation. Analytical calculations as well as numerical simulations are carried out obtaining evidence that dissipation do not significantly degrade the performance of the quantum reinforcement learning protocol for sufficiently low temperatures, being in some cases even beneficial. Quantum reinforcement learning under realistic experimental conditions of thermal dissipation opens an avenue for the realization of quantum agents able to interact with a changing environment, and adapt to it, with plausible many applications inside quantum technologies and machine learning.

Universal patterns in multifrequency-driven dissipative systems

The response of dissipative systems to multi-chromatic fields exhibits generic properties which follow from the discrete time-translation symmetry of each driving component. We derive these properties and illustrate them with paradigmatic examples of classical and quantum dissipative systems. In addition, some computational aspects, in particular a matrix continued-fraction method, are discussed. Moreover, we propose possible implementations with quantum optical settings.

Rocking bistable systems: use and abuse of Linear Response Theory

The response of a nonlinear stochastic system driven by an external sinusoidal time dependent force is studied by a variety of numerical and analytical approximations. The validity of linear response theory is put to a critical test by comparing its predictions with numerical solutions over an extended parameter regime of driving amplitudes and frequencies. The relevance of the driving frequency for the applicability of linear response theory is explored.
